Matrix Summer League Teams Finish Great 2006 Season on the Court -- More Information

Last week’s tournament marked the end of the Fairfax Stars Summer league and the end of play for the Matrix Summer League teams.  The Arlington Matrix fielded ten teams this summer, 11 if you count the Rising Freshman team on which every player was double rostered on two teams.

Our stable of Matrix teams included the following:
·
A division one team in all four available divisions (10U-13U Black teams).
.
Two teams in the youngest age group (10U Black and 10U Green).
·
A third team in two age groups (11U White and 12U White).
.
A team moving up from Division 1 from Division 2 (13U Black).
·
A Rising Freshman team that included numerous girls that hadn’t played select level basketball in the past that had to compete against experienced high school JV teams.

Two teams won regular season championships and two more teams finished in second place.  Ten of the Matrix 11 teams qualified for the playoffs.

12U Black Team Wins Division 1
The Matrix 12-Under Black team (7-3) finished strong to take a share of the Division 1 title.  After jumping to a 3-0 record, the team suffered 3 three close mid-season losses before finishing with 4 wins to end the season.

11U White Team Wins Division 2
The Matrix 11-Under White team, finished 9-1 to take the regular season Division 2 title.  Especially impressive about the team’s finish is that the White team is a brand new team, the third of three Matrix 11-Under teams.  The two other summer co-champions finished first and sixth in winter travel league play in Division 1.

13U Black Finish Second
The Matrix 13-Under Black team finished second in Division 1 play with a 7-3 record.  Having played Division 2 in previous seasons, finishing second in their first effort at Division 1 is a great accomplishment for this team of rising 8th graders coached by Curt Rich.

10U Green Finish Second
The Matrix 10-Under Green team rebounded from a 1-3 start by winning its last six games to finish in sole possession of 2nd place in Division 2.  Led by Coach Kate Muth, the team’s trademark is winning close games.  The last four wins were all by 1-2 points, including a 12-point comeback in the final game.

11U Black Finish Second
The Matrix 11-Under Black team finished the season 7-3 to wrap up a 2nd place finish in Division 1.  All the team’s wins were by double digits and two of losses were to undefeated Vienna.  Vienna’s only close game was an overtime affair vs. the Matrix Black team.
