The Mat Burners are a competitive youth wrestling club that teaches the sport of wrestling through intense practices and competition. Although we are very involved in our community we are not affiliated, sponsored, or funded by the school system or recreation department. We support all of our community schools and their athletes. One team, one goal, for one community!
The Mat Burners represent Fremont County in the Pikes Peak Wrestling League (click the link over there ← for more info on the PPWL) and various state and national tournaments.

Rocky Ford Classic
Several Mat Burners have stayed on the mat for the Freestyle and Greco season. They have been taking "flight instruction" from Team USA member Joe Betterman. This past weekend five Mat Burners competed in the Rocky Ford Classic. For some it as their first time competing in freestyle competition. Brandon took 3rd in Freestyle, Keaton took home a silver medal in Freestyle and Johnny took home the gold in Freestyle and Greco. More to come in the FS/GR arena I am sure. Watch Joe compete this weekend at the U.S. Open in Las Vegas. Good luck Joe!

On the podium
Your darn skippy Mister! Kourtney Boehm traveled to Oklahoma to participate in the USAW Girls Folkstyle Nationals and left her mark. Kourtney placed second in the Cadets (1997-1998) 101 lb. division. Kourtney's only loss on the way to her 2nd place finish was to the eventual champion from California. Great job Kourtney!

MS State - 2nd Place
Despite a tough and disappointing weekend at the Colorado Middle School State tournament the Mat Burners did not leave empty handed. Zac Hanenberg provided the "silver" lining by placing second in the 109 lb division. All of the brackets seemed tough and Zac fought well to make it to the finals. WAY TO GO ZAC!
Tuesday, March 26
It was a productive day at Pueblo County High School as 8 Mat Burners took to the mat at the COlorado Middle School Regionals (Region 4). It is good that all wrestlers from Fremont County (FMS, HMS, and CCMS) qualified for the State Championships but it is incredible that all Mat Burners placed in the top four of their individual weight classes, a testament to the Mat Burners work ethic. Zac, Keaton, and Kourtney, each won their divisions. Garrett finished second and only lost to another Mat Burner. Parker, Logan, Sam, and Joe M. rounded out the team that will be going to State next week.
Congratulations and good luck!

Mat Burners place 10 at STATE!
The Mat Burners went to Castle Rock to compete at the Youth State Championships this past weekend. Not many of the bigger clubs noticed us walking in but they all took notice throughout the competition. Two of our wrestlers made it to the center mat for a shot at the Championship. Ten (10) Mat Burners placed at STATE and the team finished in 11th place (79 teams represented) overall with only 17 wrestlers.....WOW! By comparison the top 3 teams had 130 wrestlers between them.....WOW! No team with equal or less wrestlers finished ahead of us and we beat a few with more.
2nd Place - Zac Hanenberg (15u / 106lb), Johnny Masopust (12u / 67lb), Kourtney Boehm (Girls 6th-8th / 101 lb), Parker North-Wanner (15u / 190lb)
3rd Place - Joey Wojciechowski (12u / 83lb)
4th Place - Keaton Boehm (12u / 98lb)
5th Place - Xavier Martinez (8u / 66lb), Dominic Bosco (8u / 45lb)
6th Place - Logan (LW) Kenline (12u / 106lb), Erik Danner (8u / 50lb)
Placing doesn't tell the whole story. Several other Mat Burners turned in a great day of wrestling and battled hard only to come up a little short. Hats off to Antonio Santana (1 round outside placement), Brandon Boehm, Sam Carter, Joey Carochi (1 round outside placement), Tyler Carochi, Hunter Conn (1 round outside placement), and Garrett Walsworth.
Meanwhile at the Freshman / Sophmore State Tournament in Pueblo, Colorado Mat Burner Chance Boehm was representing the club. Chance wrestled hard in this tough competition and finished one round from placing.

17 Mat Burners are going to STATE!
Our wrestling season is coming down the back stretch. We can see the finish line and it is getting close. All season long we have practiced and competed for one thing.....STATE. Everything up until now has been preparation for this event. Now we must put all our efforts toward this and focus on winning STATE. We want every Mat Burner to go to STATE and perform at their highest level. We are committed to this. It is not unreasonable to think all of our wrestlers can be successful at STATE. Parents you are vital to your wrestler's confidence. Keep them focused and thinking positively. This is it. Here it comes. Let's go win STATE!
