JP Stevens Fights

The fights at JP Stevens had four teams.  Scotch Planins-Fanwood, Matawan, Summitt and JP Stevens.  Matawan Wrestlers dominated their way through the night.

Steve Varsanyi, Mike Cunningham, Ryan Berg, Matt Morenz and Malik Gumbs all went 2-0 on the night to pace the Huskies.

Going 1-0 for Matawan was Dylan Boettinger, Dave Silverman, Anthony Holliday, Jimmy Alvarez, Hakan Yuksel, Dashaun Allan and Timmy Birch.

Tom Barr went 1-1 on the night.

This was a much improved showing for the JV team than the last time we went to JP Stevens.  Improvement is happening.

Jimmy Alvarez takes second at Raritan

The Raritan JV tourney has become the toughest JV tourney in the state.  Brick Memorial, Southern, Howell, Long Branch, Camden Catholic, Jackson Memorial, Jackson Liberty, Ocean, Wall, CBA, and many other top teams' JV  squads are there.  Placing in this tourney is a good barometer of future varsity success.  Former Matawan wrestlers who placed here were Rob Sousa, Andy DeNardo, Vic Mabin, Jon Santiago, Chris Howley, Andy Mizerak, Sean Carnahan, Nikko Montecillo, Chris Carrillo and Mike Lawrence.

Matawan's lone placer was Jimmy Alvarez's second place finish, falling to a southern Wrestler in the Finals.  Jimmy won by fall, a 1-0 decision in the semi-finals before losing 7-0 in the finals.

Matawan had several wrestlers win matches and make it to the quarterfinals.  Some of the brackets had more than 30 wrestlers in them.
