2009 AVCA Honorable Mention All American

ST. AUGUSTINE.  In her senior year at Flagler College, Katie Beale has saved her best for last and has been named to the AVCA All American Team.  Her team is currently in the Final 8 at the 2009 NCAA Division II National Championships in Minnesota.  She is the first Flagler volleyball player to be named to an All-AVCA team. Beale has also earned AVCA and Daktronics All-Southeast Region honors all within the past week. She leads the team with 506 kills and her 488 digs are just seven shy of setting a school single-season record.  She earned Southeast Region All-Tournament honors and was an All-Peach Belt Conference first team selection. Katie also earned PBC Player of the Week honors earlier in the season. We hope that the Saints can bring home National Championship.  Good Luck Katie!

She was also thrid on the team in digs as well. With her team's top hitters returning for 2010, the future looks "Al-bright". Good Luck Rachael!

Tigers are ......State Champions!
2009 medal
5A State Champions
LAKELAND. The Florida 5A volleyball state title match was destined to be a slugfest. Earlier this season, County battled with Tallahassee Leon at the Tampa Invitational and came from behind to defeat the Lions in five sets. Coming into these finals, the Lions wanted revenge on the 30-1 Tigers. The first set was all County in a 25-16 victory, but Leon fought back to take set two 25-17. The County offense turned up the heat and finished with twin 25-21 wins to take sets three and four and the championship. It was a team effort that allowed the Tigers win their first state title since 1994. The team had been molded by tough matches throughout the season during which County took on all challengers and defeated the top teams from around the state and nation. The road to the 5A championship is littered with would be spoilers, from 5A- Leon (twice), Newsome, and St. Thomas , last year's 6A State Champs- Timber Creek, the 4A state champion- archrival Jensen (twice) and runner up- Fort Myers, the 3A state champion- Berkeley, in addition to the Alabama 6A runnerup- Grissom and Tennessee 3A semifinalist- Brentwood.  Along the way, the Tigers were beaten only by Florida 6A champions Plant.  Coach Bielicki's formula was simple, combine a rugged schedule with ultra-competitive practices to hone his Tigers into a finely tuned machine that were recogized nationally and ranked ashigh as 9th making 2009 truly a special season to remember- Congratulations Martin County!

Thursday, November 19
State Finals!
LAKELAND.  In their first trip to the state championships since 1999, the Tigers are prepped and ready.  A tough season schedule and intense intra-squad pratices have brought Martin County this far and they are not ready to relinquish their goal- a 5A State Championship.  In the semifinal match against Lithia-Newsome, the Tigers were relentless and pounced on the unsuspecting Wolves.  A big lead in set one brought the them to a 25-15 win.  Newsome dug in and held a 15-15 tied score in the second set before County ran off a 10-1 run to end it 25-16.  The last set (25-14) was much of the same and allowed County to end with a 3-0 sweep.  The finals match against Leon will be played tonight at 7pm.  Go Tigers!

Wednesday, November 18
District and Region Roundup- On to States!
STUART.  It's an early morning here in Stuart where the Tigers are waking to a brand new day, one that will take them to exactly the place they wanted to be back in August- Lakeland and the state championships.  County rolled through districts, sweeping foes Sebastian and South Fork on their way to a first round regional matchup (their 20th straight trip to regionals) with Melbourne HS.  Another sweep there and the South Fork Bulldogs took another shot... and ended their season with their 51st straight loss to Martin County. After three sets in the regional finals against St. Thomas Aquinas, the Raiders provided the Tigers with a tough challenge and a 2-1 deficit.  A gritty, never say die effort from County took them out of that hole and outstanding play ans senior leadership propelled the team to their first state championship trip since 1999.  Ten years is a long time to wait between trips and the Tigers hope to cap one of the most successful seasons in their history with a 5A State Championship and make the trip more of an annual thing.  The Semifinal match is today against Lithia-Newsome HS (20-7). The 29-1 Tigers are looking to close out their season with a couple more wins and cement their place in history- let's go Champs!

Saturday, October 24
24 wins and 1 Loss
STUART.  These Tigers are flying high after one of the best seasons in County history. Highlighted by two wins over rival Jensen Beach, two tournament championships, and  current #12 national ranking from prepvolleyball.com, the Tigers will head into the post season with high hopes and their eyes on the biggest prize of them all- a 5A State Championship. The road behind lays littered with top teams.  County has knocked off last year's 6A state champs Timber Creek and perenially 3A powerhouses Berkeley Prep and Bishop Moore, the numbers 4 and 5 ranked teams in 5A, and the numbers 2 and 4 ranked teams in 4A.  The road ahead will be tough and paved with oppenents who'd like nothing better than to knock the Tigers out- South Fork, Palm Bay, St. Thomas, Leon, Venice.  Each of these talented teams would love to take County's place in history.  The Tigers' goal is a 31-1 final record and their date with destiny.

Thursday, October 22
Jensen and John Carroll

JENSEN BEACH and STUART.  The Tigers wanted to end the regular season on a high note and needed strong efforts from the team in order to make this happen.  Tuesday night in front of a record crowd at Jensen Beach, County legitimized ther claim as the top team in the area with a four set victory. The two teams traded kills all night long until the fourth set  when the Tigers finally put Jensen away.

Thursday night's home match was Senior Night against John Carroll.  All six seniors began the night together and motivated their team to victory in three straight sets. Senior co-captains Elise Walch and Lauren Brinskelle began their varsity careers four seasons ago, Kayla Cormier and Kelly Brown joined the varsity as sophomores, and Monica Meyer and Lexis Lloyd (transfer) were added this season.  Each has made wonderful contributions to both the skill level and the cohesiveness of the squad and we hope they can all end their Tiger careers as Champions.

County Alumni Make Waves
Several former Tigers have continued their stellar careers and winning ways at the college level over the years.  This fall, six such alumni either are leading their teams or play key roles in the the success of their programs. In her senior season, Katie Beale is the kills leader for Flagler University. Just one year removed from their Tiger days, Allison Lewen and Remick Tiller are filling key roles for Berry College and Belmont Abbey University. Remick leads her squads in digs and Allison has been one of her squad's go to hitters. Ater setting all sorts of records at the helm of the Tigers, Rachael Albright continues to play her way to success at Kennesaw State as the team's leading setter.  Just to the south Allie Warren continues in the long line of Warren family success at Palm Beach Atlantic. And last, but not least, Rachel Cuthrell has joined the  Coast Guard Academy team this season and already leads the team in blocks.  In the coaching ranks is Kelly Morrisroe who was named one of the AVCA's 30 under 30 in 2009 for her work as the number one assistant at Eckerd College. We wish these Tigers best of luck over the remainders of their volleyball careers as they pave the way for the present and future Tiger players. MCVB4L!

There's No Place Like Home

STUART.  The friendly confines of the home gym seems to be a winning formula for the Tigers.  No long bus rides, no dark confined volleyball courts- just the bright, airy, and loud home court at the Don Wallen gymnasium.  County welcomed visiting Okeechobee tonight.  The JV 1 team opened with a two game sweep 25-13, 25-22 behind the offense of Tierney Seman (8 kills) and Madison Arnold (5 kills).  Serving up all sorts of difficulty for the Brahman's were Danielle Dodge, Madison Arnold, and Saige Popson with 2 aces each.

The Brahman varsity played excellent defense against the County attack, but in the end the Tiger hitters prevailed in a three set victory 25-13, 25-15, 25-17. Setters Kayla Cormier (12 assists) and Mallori Moffat (11 assists) fueled the offensive fires from 21 Lexis Lloyd digs. Senior Elise Walch led the way with 18 kills and 6 blocks and Molly O'Neil added 12 kills.  Lauren Brinskelle and Nicole Walch provided strong serving to keep the Okeechobee hitters silent.  County now rests on a 15-1 record heading into a holiday shortened bye week.  Next Up will be Jupiter and then the Tampa Invitational in October.

Tigers Control the Bulldogs

STUART. The South Fork teams put up a fight in all three matches tonight in the Don Wallen gymnasium.  The Tiger JV2 lost in three close sets while the JV 1 as victorious in their own back and forth 3 set match 19-25, 25-20, 15-9. Danielle Dodge had 12 kills and 4 aces while Madison Arnold added 6 kills.

In the last match, Martin County used a decided height advantage to grind out a victory 25-18, 25-14, 25-22.  Elise and Nicole Walch drilled 16 and 15 kills along with 7 blocks apiece.  Mallori Moffat put up 23 assists and Lexis Lloyd contributed defensively with 13 digs.  Lauren Brinskelle chipped in 6 kills and 2 aces.  The 14-1 Tigers will play tomorrow against Okeechobee.

Winner, Winner, Falcon Dinner- ECC Day Two!

STUART.  For the first time in ECC history, a local team has won- and it was the home team Tigers.  County started off the day finishing pool play with a win against Brentwood (Tn) 25-15, 25 16. Entering the gold bracket, The Tigers beat out Grissom (AlA), who defeated them at last year's ECC 25-18, 25-19 to set up the showdown in the finals against Jensen. With the match swinging back and forth County prevailed against the craftyJensen attacks 16-25, 25-17, 16-14. Sealing the deal with a six point serving run was senior co-captain Lauren Brinskelle to go along with the match ending kill from her captain partner Elise Walch.  The Tigers are now 13-1 heading into this week's matches against South Fork and Okeechobee.

Breakthrough!

STUART. The volleyball news out of Matin County has been good.  A 7-1 record that includes a close loss to national top 20 Plant has caught the eye of writers at Prepvolleyball.com. the Tigers had made the "on the bubble" listing of the top 100 teams in the country numerous times before busting through with a #78 a national ranking from the volleyball news service this week. Heading into this weekend's East Coast Challenge, Martin County will have the opportunity to win their own tournament for the first time. Such an accomplishment will take quite an effort from the squad. The Tigers will have to beat perennial Tennessee power Brentwood as well as former ECC champs Grissom (Alabama) to even get to the finals.  Coach Bielicki's team has worked hard to develop a winning formula and will put their practice to the test tonight.  Good Luck Tigers.

Wednesday, September 16
Tigers Tame St. Thomas
STUART.  St. Thomas' JV fared better than their varsity night winning a tight three set match against the Tigers.  The County varsity was able to dispatch the Raiders in straight sets- 25-18, 25-23, 25-16 ending a ten year losing streak to St. Thomas.  Leading the way for the Tigers was senior libero Lexis Lloyd (23 digs). Time and time again, she was there to stop a Raider rally.  Martin County will take an 8-1 record into this weekend's East Coast Challenge.

Senior Ace!

Senior Ace- Elise Walch
STUART.  Coach Bielicki has been at it for a long time and in his years of coaching he claims to never had as hard a hitter as Elise Walch.  The volleyball community tends to agee with him.  Elise was named to prepvolleyball.com's Senior Ace list as the 26th best player in the nation.  Her thundering attacks have impressed the Tiger faithful for years- their chants of "automatic!" and "you can't stop us!" resound in the gym with every ground shaking spike that leaves opposing defenders simply shaking their heads in dismay.  She is the first Tiger to make the Senior Ace list. Her hammering hits will be heard in Madison Wisconsin next year for one of the Big Ten's top programs.  Congratulations Elise!

County Sinks the Sharks
STUART.  Sebastian River's days of glory are a fading memory. If the Sharks entered the Don Wallen gymnasium with any thoughts of recapturing that glory, the idea was washed away during warm-ups and non-existant after the first booming County kill. A 10-1 Tiger lead in the first set brought a time out from the Sebastian coach and a 20-2 lead brought the second. The first set mercifully ended at 25-3 behind 9 Elise Walch kills and 11 service points from Mallori Moffat.  Unfortunately for the Sharks, set two began and ended in similar fashion- a 25-7 County win.  Coach Bielicki's second team handled both the second as well as the third set win for a Tiger victory.  The team's record stands at 7-1 heading into tomorrows key matchup with St. Thomas Aquinas  Go get 'em Tigers.

Tigers Place 2nd in Gainesville
09 gatortown

GAINESVILLE. In the best tournament showing by a Tigers squad in a decade, Martin County stormed into Gainesville and placed second overall losing only by the slightest of margins to National top 20 and three time defending 5A State Champs Tampa Plant HS in the tournament championship. In a back and forth battle featuring three of the top senior recruits in the state, the Tigers and Panthers slugged it out. Thundering attacks and point saving digs on both sides of the net kept the match close.  Plant escaped with twin 25-23 victories in sets one and two before County inched ahead for their own 25-23 set three win.  Too many unforced errors doomed the Tigers in the deciding fourth set as Plant marched to a 25-12 win for the match victory.

On Friday night, County (5-1) won their pool round with straight set wins over Durant 25-21, 25-10, Colombia 25-11, 25-22, and Gainesville 25-18, 25-7. They beat Orlando Bishop Moore 25-23, 23-25, 25-14, 14-25, 15-7 in Saturday morning's semifinals to get to the championship.  Sisters Elise and Nicole Walch were named to the All Tournament team.

Nicole, Molly, and Sara
ORLANDO. If the performance of the Tiger players at the recent AAU National Championships is any indicator of the upcoming season, then things are looking good! Three varsity players playing on the Treasure Coast 16's team won the club division at the prestigious AAU Nationals. Competing on the team were rising juniors Molly O'Neil and Sara Loomis along with rising sophomore Nicole Walch. Molly and Nicole were named All-Stars and Nicole was the Club Divison 16 and under Most Valuable Player. Way to go Tigers!

2008 Lewen Signing
Senior Co-Captain Allison Lewen
STUART.   The "Tiger tradition" of sending players to college continues.  Alllison Lewen will be the 46th Martin County High School player to sign a scholarship under Coach Marty Bielicki.  She will be attending Berry College located in Mount Berry, Gerogia.

Allison was Co-Captain for the District champions this season.  A three year starter, Allison collected 454 good digs, 538 good passes, 262 kills and 267 serving points in her career.

Coach Bielicki states, "Allison is a multi-talented athlete who can do it all on the court. She has worked very hard playing club ball for Treasure Coast and Palm Beach Juniors.  Allison is extremely competitive and an excellent student. Berry is an excellent fit for Allison as she has family nearby."

In the fall Allison will be playing for Coach Mika Robinson and the Berry Vikings.  Coach Robinson is very familiar with Martin County volleyball as she coached for Buchholz high school in Gainesville and attended the East Coast Challenge.

Nicole, Elise, Molly, Allison, and Kayla
WEST PALM BEACH.  The Palm Beach Post has made their selection and Tigers abound on their list.  Leading the way for County is Nicole Walch as a 1st team selection. As the only non-junior or senior on the 1st or 2nd team, Nicole's selection makes quite a statement in the area as to the future of Martin County volleyball.  Joining Nicole on the list as Honorable Mention picks are outside hitters Elise Walch and Molly O'Neil, all around athlete Allison Lewen, and setter Kayla Cormier.  Lone senior Allison Lewen's departure means that the Tiger offense is stacked and should help fuel another successful volleyball season in 2009.  Congratulations ladies- the Tiger nation is proud of you all.

County Falls One Step Short of State

FORT LAUDERDALE.  The Tigers were looking to become the first team since 1999 to make to back to Lakeland, but after a strong showing from the home team Raiders, County will have to wait yet another year.  Riding an eight game win streak, the visiting Tigers started out strong in a 26-24 opening set win.  From there the fast paced affense of the Raiders was too much for County to handle as they fell in four, 26-24, 14-25, 17-25, 20-25.  The Tigers were led offensively by junior Elise Walch's 21 kills and setter Kayla Cormier's 27 assists. Lauren Brinskelle's 15 digs and Allison Lewen's 14 paced the Tiger defense.  The team finishes with a 23-8 record and a #18 (all Florida classes) ranking from Maxpreps which is the highest of any team on the Treasure Coast or the Palm Beaches and ahead of #21 Royal Palm and #22 Jensen Beach.

Next up for County will be the annual Carraba's banquet on December 6th from 12noon to 2pm.

Senior Captain Remick Tiller
STUART. Senior co-captain Remick Tiller has verbally commited to playing volleyball next year at Belmont Abbey.  After spending her first three years at South Fork, Rem has been a Tiger for a full season now and her leadership has taken the Tigers to tomorrow's regional finals.  Next year she'll suit up for the DII Crusaders in Belmont, North Carolina and join another former Tiger- Emily Frohnapfel on the court.  Best of luck Remick!

Tuesday, November 11
On to The Regonal Finals

STUART.  For the first time since 2004, the Tigers will play for a regional championship.  The Kayla Cormier to Elise Walch offensive combination worked nearly flawlessly in the first two regional matchups as the Tigers disposed of their opponents.  Last Wednesday County dominated Bayside 25-13, 25-3, 25-12 and then tonight dropped West Boca in four sets 27-25, 25-16, 23-25, 25-16.  The solid defense of Libero Allison Lewen and specialists Amanda Mangels and Kelly Brown as well as timely serving from Nicole Walch, Lauren Brinskelle, and Molly O'Neil led the way for the 22-7 Tigers who now are are one win from their first final four berth since 1999.  They will face perennial 5A contender St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale at 2pm.  Good Luck Tigers.

Thursday, October 30
District Sweep
Your Tigers swept through district foes Dwyer, 25-10, 25-12, 25-14 in the semi-finals, and West Boca, 25-18, 25-21, 25-21 in the finals.

Saturday, October 18
On to Districts

STUART.  Coach Bielicki expanded on his philosophy of scheduling tough opponents in order to prepare his team for the post season by adding a third tournament for the Tigers.  Knowing that the district and conference schedules would not be enough preparation for the post season, in addition to the East Coast Challenge and The Tampa Prep Invitational, Coach sent the team to Gainesville for the Gator Town Classic.  In doing so, he knew that some traditional local matches would have to sacrificed in order to meet the FHSAA guidelines of a 25 match maximum- no Jupiter, no Okeechobee, no Jensen.  One thing Coach was not counting on was the injury bug that bit the Tigers in Gainesville.  Top offensive weapon Elise Walch, senior Stephanie Howard, and starting setter Rem Tiller each suffered injuries that kept them sidelined for portions of the season.  Elise's and Rem's absence allowed other Tigers to step up including 9th grader Nicole Walch who led the team in kills in Elise's absence and junior setter Kayla Cormier who leads the team in assists.  It is a credit to the high-powered County offense that they went undefeated in District and Conference play and played lights out in non-tournament matches.  The only losses coming in tournament play to some of the top teams in Florida and  the southeastern U.S.

In the absence of a FSWA poll this year MaxPreps has filled the gap with the creation of an all Florida ranking system. Currently the Tigers sit at #24 in the all-class rankings.  The Tiger losses have come in their three tournaments appearances against (Maxpreps rankings) #4 Berkeley Prep, #7 St. Thomas, #19 Cardinal Gibbons, #22 Gainesville Eastside, #26 West Boca, as well as perennial 5A power Clearwater and three time defending 1A (LA.) state champs Northlake Christian.  Martin County's big wins include matches against six time defending 5A (Tenn.) Brentwood, Florida #32 Merritt Island, two returning Florida state runners-up from 2007- 6A Durant and 3A Pine Crest, and state power PK Yonge.

County Opens with Victory

STUART.  On opening night at home, the Tigers began the season with a bang. From the first thundering Elise Walch hit to the ending Lauren Brinskelle laser, County had its way against visiting district foe Monarch High.  The Knights were kept off balance by Tiger servers Molly O'Neil, Elise, Allison Lewen (18 service points), and Rem Tiller.  Rem  (23 assists) and Kayla Cormier supplied sets all night long to Elise (23 kills) and Nicole Walch, as well as Stephanie Howard and newly converted RS Jenny Maine.  Allison, Lauren, and Amanda Mangels passed a great match, with supers subs Kelly Brown and Sarah Loomis providing a spark in the third game.  The result was a 25-12, 25-13, 25-12 Tiger romp.  County will take a 1-0 (1-0 district) record into the weekend.

Tigers Split at Pre-Season Classic
BOCA RATON.  The Tigers made the annual pilgrimage down to Boca for the matchups against longtime rivals Spanish River and West Boca.  In the opener against the host Sharks, County controlled the match from the outset with outstanding passing from Molly O'Neil, Allison Lewen, Amanda Mangels, and Lauren Brinskelle.  Great passing allowed for a fluid offense for which Spanish River had no answer in a 25-14, 25-14 win.  In the second match against West Boca, the Tigers had trouble generating offense early in both games and despite late game heroics dropped both games, 17-25 in the first and 26-28 in the second.  The Tigers will open the regular season on Thursday against district opponent Monarch High at home at 6:30pm.

Letter from Coach

Dear Athlete and Parent(s),

Once again, we want to salute our seniors for a “great” job for the last four years.  They have given us a legacy to carry on and be proud of.  We want to build on their accomplishments and excel.  Following is a list of dates which may concern you:

Tampa Volleyball camp is TEAM CAMP II , July 17th-July 20th, 2008.  Please register now to guarantee your spot!  The University of Tampa web site is www.tampavolleyball.com

We are going to start practice on Monday Aug.  11th, 2008 at 3:00 P.M.

Currently, we are looking at having our Varsity Tournaments:

  1. Gainesville Gator Town Classic on September 12th and 13th
  2. East Coast Challenge on September 19th and 20th
  3. Tampa Prep Tourney on Oct. 10th and 11th (it is a SAT date)

If you ever need to talk to me, you can come to the Deans office (sometimes you need to set up an appointment with Mrs. Poerio).  You can also email me at mbielicki@hotmail.com .

Our future success depends on how hard “you” work and personally get better as a volleyball player.  Excellence comes at a “high price” of time, sacrifice, money and sweat.  Competition for positions will be keen and intense.   As one of the lyrics in the 1969 progressive rock band  Uriah Heep” sings, “Sacrifice: the future has a price.”

I hope many of you share our goals for next season:

  1. Have fun, work hard and have a winning season.
  2. Beat  those Birds!
  3. Win the Conference
  4. Win Districts
  5. Be in the Final-Four
  6. Win States with “sports-wo-manship”

Wishing you success in school and in your personal life, I am,

Always a friend and coach,

STUART.  There might be something in the water at the Warren residence, and they might consider bottling the stuff and making it available at volleyball tournaments and practices.  Allie Warren, the youngest of the four standout Warren volleyball stars will sign her letter of intent for Palm Beach Atlantic College today.  By the end of her junior season Allie was on track to shatter numerous career records for the Tigers.  A knee injury suffered during spring club season was significant enough to cause her to miss out on her entire senior season.  After rehabilitation, Allie proved that she had not lost a step and proved to the PBA coaches that she was their type of player.  She will follow sisters Whitney and Sara Beth to West Palm Beach to become a Sailfish, the fourth sister Erin played for Mercer.  Congratulations Allie.

Tuesday, April 22

Kill Leader- Elise Walch
FORT PIERCE.  In the last week of the regular season in 2006, County lost twice against John Carroll, the second loss coming in the Treasure Lakes Conference Championship in front of one of the loudest crowds in Martin County volleyball history in a very tough match.  With a few of his Tigers out with illnesses, Coach Bielicki wasn't sure what to expect against a very good Golden Ram team, but was pleased with the outcome- a three set Tiger victory 25-22, 25-23, 25-21.   Sophomore Elise Walch become the third player in school history with over 300 kills in one season. Walch, who also had 12 blocks, had 24 kills to reach 302 thus far. 1994 All Staters Emily Suter had 372 and Lori Gribben 313 when Martin County won the Class 5A state championship. Rachael Albright provided 37 assists and Lauren Brinskelle had 11 service points, six aces and seven kills as County (20-4) reached 20 wins for the 16th time in the last 19 seasons. Molly O'Neil had nine kills and seven service points, Rachel Cuthrell had eight blocks, Kayla Cormier six service points and Jenny Maine four kills. Martin County missed a season-low two serves and avenged their 2006 losses to the Golden Rams. "That was a factor going down the stretch," coach Marty Bielicki said. "The games were very close."  As usual, Coach had nothing but praise for John Carroll  "...they did a great job against us.  It was a fight. In their gym, all records disappear. You could tell they wanted to beat us tonight. They're a very good team."  County opens district play next Wednesday.

All Time Assist Leader Rachael Albright
STUART.  Appropriately enough, the Martin County seniors closed out their final regular season home schedule with a big win over Jupiter. Though close, the Tigers finished with three identical 25-22 wins to take the match.  During the match senior setter Rachael Albright had 31 assists become the school's all-time leader passing former County All- Everything Melissa Sabin. A three-year starter, Albright has 1,875 assists, Sabin had 1,818 from 1998-2000. Fellow co-captain seniors Rachel Cuthrell and Taylor Gilmour also had big nights.  Rachel led the team with seven blocks, and Taylor finished with seven service points and six digs. Kill machine Elise Walch had 11 kills, Molly O'Neil added 8 kills and Lauren Brinskelle had 6 kills and 9 digs for Martin County (19-4), which needs one win for its 16th 20-win season in the last 19 years. Amanda Mangels added 8 service points and 11 digs, Kayla Cormier finished 8 service points. The Tigers will take on John Carroll tonight in Ft. Pierce.

No Records Broken, Just a Broken Record

Perhaps the Florida sportswriters have better things to do than try and figure out the 5A rankings.  As they have been for the entire season,  six teams remain at the top.  Even with the occasional flip-flop at number one or number two, it has been pretty consistent- Plant, Venice, Aquinas, Lake Howell,  Martin County, and Fort Myers.  Or perhaps the writers are dead on with their picks and the top six really are that much better than the rest.  Although none of these teams are undefeated, all have played top competition from within and outside of the state and with winning results.  Plant and Venice remain the highest ranked Florida teams on the prepvolleyball.com rankings giving a ton of backing to the idea that day in and day out, the best volleyball in the state is played in 5A.  Oh, and the #1 team in 4A (North Martin County HS) is pretty good too.

Home Stretch
Heading into the last week of the regular season, the Tigers are looking to make their season last just a bit longer than it has in recent years.  With the ultimate goal of the state tournament in Lakeland, County has loaded its schedule with top ranked teams.  Playing the best from within and without Florida has helped prepare the team for their run into the post season.  Six of their last nine opponents were ranked in the top ten of their respective classes and County's strong record of 6-3 in that time shows that they are indeed prepared to play with anyone.  No letdown in the last week as the preseason Palm Beach Post #1 Jupiter comes to Stuart for County's senior night on Wednesday before the Tigers head up to John Carroll to take on the defending Treaure Lake Conference champions on Thursday.  Both teams have spent time in the FSWA poll this season and should continue to allow the Tigers to sharpen their game entering districts.  Currently County holds the record for the third longest streak of post season play (17 years) in state history and has no plans to relinquish the streak any time soon.  Awaiting the Tigers in districts include local rival South Fork and big time opponent West Boca.  Don't miss any of the upcoming action!

Tigers Declawed by Jensen
STUART.  In front of the largest crowd in recent times, Jensen Beach showed off their new 4A #1 ranking in a defeat of home team Martin County.  In back and forth action all night, the Tigers seemed to play from behind on their home court.  After a lackluster 18-25 loss in game one, County dug in but lost game two 23-25.  Kayla Cormier sparked the home team from the serving line at the end of game three allowing the Tigers to win 26-24.  Game four was seemingly all Jensen Beach as County bowed out 22-25.  Leading the way for the Tigers statistically was 9th grader Molly O'Neil with 10 kills, 9 service points, and 9 digs.  Rachael Albright dished out 48 assists and Elise Walch added 14 kills.  Defensively Allison Lewen had 15 digs and Taylor Gilmore had 11.  Martin County (18-4) finishes the regular season next week against John Carroll and Jupiter High

Tigers Take No Bull From the Brahmans

Record Setter Taylor Gilmour

STUART.  Things were back to normal in the volleyball relationship between Martin County and Okeechobee.  After two losses to the Brahmans in 2006, The Tigers were determined to bring things back to normal and handed the visitors a 25-13, 25-9, 25-9 defeat.  On this night senior co-captainTaylor Gilmore set a new record for service points in a match notching 24 in only three games. Providing the fuel to the County offense were Rachael Albright (17 assists) and Kayla Cormier (13 assists). Punching their kill tickets were Elise Walch (12 kills), Allison Lewen and Lauren Brinskelle (6 kills each), and Molly O'Neil (5 kills).  Rachael Albright led the team with 10 digs and Molly and Allison each added 8.  The Tigers will take an 18-3 record with them into tomorrow match.

In early action the Tigers won both the 9th grade match 25-23, 25-16 as well as the JV contest 25-16, 25-11.  In the opener, Ashleigh Brown led the team with 9 service points and for the JV Kelly Brown scored 12 from the line and Monica Meyer had 14.  Sara Loomis put away 5 kills for the JV.  The JV is now 10-0 and the 9th grade team is also undefeated at 3-0.

Newest FSWA Poll Has a Familiar feel To It.

If you close your eyes and think back to the previous two 5A state volleyball polls, you will notice that the top six are still the top six. And if you look at the newest poll, the more things change, the more they stay the same.  The Martin County Tigers remain at #5 behind the usual suspects- Plant, St. Thomas, Venice, and Lake Howell.  Still at #6 is last year's nemesis Fort Myers.  The only change in the poll having any possible effect on the Tigers is in 4A where Thursday's opponent Jensen Beach has assumed the top spot.  Playing top ranked schools is nothing new to County after recent matches against Plant, Venice, Orangewood, Grissom, Bishop England, and King's Academy.   These Tigers have very sharp claws and will compete against whomever opposes them.

CLASS 5A
1. Tampa Plant (10) (18-1) 100
2. Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas (18-3) 82
3. Venice (18-2) 80
4. Winter Park Lake Howell (18-1) 74

County-Okeechobee Not To Be Overshadowed by Jensen Match

STUART.  Two times last season, Martin County squared off against Okeechobee and both times County came out on the losing end.  Very infrequently does a Tiger volleyball team fall twice to the same team in one season, and these Tigers have long memories. So when they take the court on Wednesday, there will be some paybacks in mind and the Brahmans better bring their Tylenol- there's pain to be be brought.

25-27, 25-20, 15-10, 26-24, 25-23, 23-25, 15-25, 19-21.  These are the game scores from County's two matches last year with Jensen Beach resulting in a victory for each team.  If they are any indication of what Thursday match will bring, you might want to flip a coin.  Knowing this, Coach Bielicki has prepared his Tigers with a very tough schedule both on and off the court.  With a ultra-rigorous training regimen, game day practices, and a schedule thus far that has featured three nationally ranked teams and four returning state champions among a total of ten top-ten ranked opponents,  County's record against these teams stands at 7-3.  Those three losses are the only ones the Tigers have experienced all season.  Outside of those three losses, County has dropped only ONE other game all year (22-25 at 5A #10 and district rival West Boca).  These Tigers thrive on tough competition, and when the game is on the line all that experience counts.  A #2 ranking in 4A and fifty cents will get you a cup of coffee at McDonalds- if Jensen wants a victory, they better bring more than newspaper clippings.

Saturday, October 6
Day Two at Tampa
TAMPA. At the Tampa Bay Invitational, the Tigers found themselves in a battle within the silver division with the #1 teams from 6A, 5A, and 2A, two of which were defending state champions.  To open, County faced 5A #1 and defending state champion Venice.  In a back and forth struggle, the Tigers came out on the losing end 16-25, 26-24, 11-25, 20-25. In the consolation game, two-time defending state champion Orangewood Christian found themselves at the mercy of a potent Tiger offense.  In their best match of the tournament, County found their scoring rhythm in a three game sweep- 25-21, 25-20, 25-20.  Their 3-2 seventh place finish puts the Tiger record at 17-3 heading into the final two weeks of the season.  Two big home matches await the team this upcoming week- On Wednesday the Tigers would like to avenge two losses from last season against Okeechobee and onThursday Jensen Beach visits the County gymnasium to renew the rivalry for county and world domination.  Let's take it to them Tigers!

Saturday, October 6
First Day Results from Tampa
TAMPA.  County finished pool play with a 2-1 record defeating Winter Springs and 3A #5 PK Yonge in straight sets before dropping a tight contest to 5A #2 Plant.  the Tigers roared out to a 25-18 game one victory before dropping the next two 15-25 and 10-15 to the high flying team from Tampa.  The Tigers enter the silver division with a chance to knock off 5A #1 Venice in the opening round.  Go Tigers.

Thursday, October 4
Tigers Hold Steady at #5 Heading into Tampa

The top five teams in 5A remained the same in the second FSWA poll with a slight flip flop as previous #2 Venice jumped over #1 Plant into the top spot.  #3 St. Thomas and #4 Lake Howell remain ahead of the Tigers in the standings.  County will look to shake things up a bit in Tampa this weekend as they are matched up in the same pool as Plant.  This tournament should be a true test for the Tigers as eleven of the sixteen teams are ranked in the top six of their respective classes including three ranked #1 and two ranked #2.  Three teams are ranked in prepvolleyball.com's top 100. Between them, the entrants have combined for 48 state championships over the years and will bring their winning traditions and best games with them.  Among the teams competing are,

6A #1 Timber Creek (#51 national ranking), #4 Cypress Bay

5A #1 Venice (#39 nation), #2 Plant (#72 nation), #5 Martin County, #6 Ft. Myers

3A #2 Cardinal Newman, #3 Bishop Verot, #4 Berkeley Prep, #5 PK Yonge, #11 Academy Of Holy Names

2A #1 Orangewood Christian

County begins pool play on Friday at 4pm at the University of Tampa (court 2) against Winter Springs, then plays PK Yonge at 6pm, and finishes up pool play against Plant at 8pm.  Saturday's schedule will be determined by the order of finish on Friday.

Elise Walch- "Automatic"

STUART.  The Tigers opened up their tournament play with Tallahassee Chiles coached by former County assistant coach Ron Jacobs.  A slow start in game one didn't see the Tigers pull away until the end, winning 25-17.  The second game had the Tigers in control and winning 25-18.  Match two pitted County against upstart Cypress Bay who came in fresh off their victory over defending East Coast Challenge Champion Bishop England HS (South Carolina).  Cypress Bay led virtually all of game one until the Tigers came from behind winning 25-23.  County opened a big lead in game two before some late game heroics brought the score closer, but in the end the Tigers prevailed 25-20.  7-0 Martin County will finish pool play hoping to get redemption from last year's loss to Bishop England at 10am tomorrow.

Volleyball Players Begin Weightlifting
MANDATORY weight training starts Monday November 6th. The difference between two similar athletes will be strength, speed and intelligence. Our goal is to increase your strength and vertical by at least three inches. We will train with weights on Monday and Wednesday’s. Those athletes that excel in the bench press and the clean-and-jerk will receive varsity letters in “Girls Weightlifting.” The “clean-and jerk” is the best movement to “improving the vertical jump” states author Harvey Newton in his book Explosive Lifting for Sports.

Success for next season will be determined by what you do personally. Feel free to contact me for any further information. Good luck and play hard.

Sincerely, Coach Marty Bielicki

Tigers Fall at #4 Ft. Myers
For the second time this season, the Green Wave of Ft. Myers battled to victory against the Tigers. The first match was at the Champions Tournament in Orlando and this time it was the regional semi-finals. This marks the second consecutive season that County has lost to a hot team from the Southwest coast. The young Tigers never seemed to get their offense going during the match and the result was a 22-25, 23-25, 18-25 loss. Setter Rachael Albright had her running shoes on as the passing and defensive game of the Tigers was AWOL. Allie Warren had 10 service points with four aces, 13 kills and 18 digs for Martin County. Rachael Albright added 32 assists and six kills. Elise Walch had 10 kills and Lauren Brinskelle five. Amanda Mangels and Taylor Gilmour had six service points.

The seniorless Tigers will look to improve on their 18-11 final record next year.

Wednesday, October 25

Allie Warren added seven kills and 10 digs, and Lauren Brinskelle had 15 service points and five kills for Martin County. Lauren Olsen had 13 service points and Elise Walch had six. Up next for County is Fort Myers at 2pm Saturday in Fort Myers.

Tigers Lose in District Final
West Boca avenged an earlier season loss to the Tigers in front of their home crowd in 3 games.

Thursday, October 19
Tigers Make it 17 Straight
In 1989 the streak began. Martin County has made it to the district championship for 17 straight seasons, each time assuring a regional berth. Last night in Boca Raton, the Tigers defeated a scrappy Dwyer team 24-26, 25-20, 29-31, 25-15, 15-10 to once again make the finals. They will meet West Boca in the Championship match. The Tigers beat the Bulls back on September 12th and now the Bulls will be without their star outside hitter who is out for the season. This is sure to be a tough match. Good Luck Tigers!

Tigers Lose in TLC Championship Game
albright06
New Single Season Assist Record Set
After winning the first 13 TLC Championships, the Tigers have faced increased competition the last few years, winning only one the last three attempts. Sebastian River broke through in 2003, County regained the title last year (no match in 2004), and now the title belongs to John Carroll. After losing last week to JC in five games, the Tigers were expecting another tight match. The first game was a back and forth struggle with the Tigers pulling away from an 18-18 tie to win 25-21. However in the next three games, John Carroll's defense was stifling. County seemed to not be able to put a ball on the floor offensively and lost 25-18, 25-14, 25-20 to close out the match. In some good news, County setter Rachael Albright had 31 assists to set a new single-season school record. She now has 589, surpassing the old record of 564 set by Sarah Beth Warren in 2003.

Tuesday, October 10
Game On!
After last week's five game marathon defeat to John Carroll, the Tigers held out hope that they might get a rematch. Their wishes were granted after John Carroll defeated Jensen Beach 25-21, 21-25, 25-19, 24-26, 15-12 last night to earn their place against County in the Treasure Lake Conference final. County has qualified for the championship match every year it has been held since since 1989, winning fourteen of fifteen. The only loss occuring in 2003 to Sebastian River. No match was held in 2004 due to Hurricanes Jeanne and Francis. The Tigers would like nothing more than to win their fifteenth. Standing in their path are the Rams who have had their first twenty win season since 2000 and are state ranked for the first time in a while as well. County is 16-8 and looking to crack the 5A poll for the first time this season heading into the playoffs. Their high flying offense looks to stay on track after a big win at Royal Palm Beach last week. GO TIGERS!

Playing Tough
There is an old saying that iron sharpens iron, and if that holds true than the rigorous regular season schedule for the Tigers should pay off in the post season. The Tigers have 16 wins and 8 losses thus far with the losses only coming at the hands of top-ten ranked teams. Two losses against 6th ranked Okeechobee (4A), one each against #1 ranked Lake Highland (3A), #1 (all classes) Bishop England S.C., #6 Fort Myers (5A), and #9 John Carroll (3A). County has split matches with #2 Jensen Beach (4A), and #8 Royal Palm Beach (6A), and beat #9 West Boca (5A), #9 Jupiter (6A), #6 Jacksonville Episcopal (3A), and #6 Westminster (2A). Four of the in-season opponents were defending state champions- Bishop England (SC 2A), Lake Highland (3A), Suncoast (4A), and Evangelical (2A). All of those matches were tightly contested and created many opportunities for the young Tigers to see what it takes to be a champion as well as to grow and become molded as a team. Year in and year out, Coach Bielicki is able to put a competitive group of ladies together and get them ready for the post season. And for sixteen straight seasons, the Tigers have qualified for the regionals, currently the third longest streak in the state of Florida. The Tigers will look to win their fifteenth Conference Championship crown this week and then head to districts in an effort to win their fourteenth district championship in sixteen years. Good Luck Tigers!

Friday, October 6
Tigers Exact Revenge
In their first matchup this season, the 8th ranked (6A) Royal Palm Beach Wildcats beat out the Tigers to finish first in the silver division at the East Coast Challenge. After the first game last night, it seemed that the Wildcats might have County's number again winning 25-14. Though RPB only scored 4 kills in the game, the Tiger errors kept County from scoring. In games two, three, and four, the Tigers scored plenty finishing with 25-20, 25-23, 25-20 scores to defeat the Wildacts in four. Allie Warren had 20 kills, 27 digs and 10 service points and Rachael Albright added 47 assists for Martin County. Elise Walch had 12 kills and 13 blocks, and Lauren Brinskelle added 10 kills and 14 digs for the Tigers (16-8). Allison Lewen had eight kills, Taylor Gilmour had 13 digs and sophomore Stephanie Howard had seven blocks and four kills in her first varsity match.

In the earlier action, the County 9th grade team won their last match of the season to finish 7-4, while the JV droppd a close one to end at 9-6. Nice seasons ladies! The Tigers will look to retain their Conference crown next Wednesday at 7pm at MCHS. Opponent will be decided after Monday's John Carroll-Jensen Beach match.

John Carroll Stops Streaking County
After 15 wins, County ran into a solid and peaking John Carroll squad. In a back and forth matchup, the 9th ranked Rams (3A) proved tough to beat. Their defense and serving was the difference in the end as the Tigers lost 23-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-21, 9-15. Leading County with 25 kills and 28 digs was Allie Warren. Rachael Albright had 48 assists and 13 service points, Elise Walch had 17 kills, and Taylor Gilmour had 10 service points and 14 digs. 15-8 County plays against Royal Palm Beach on Thursday at Royal Palm.

Centennial Dropped Like a Bad Habit
It´s been a while since County had a competive match with St. Lucie´s Centennial HS. Last night´s match was no exception. The Tigers wasted no time in dispatching Centennial 25-9, 25-7, 25-7. Allie Warren had 10 kills, 16 service points, five aces, and eight digs, and Rachael Albright had 34 assists for the Tigers (15-7).
Elise Walch had eight kills and had five blocks to set a school record of 111 (Breaking Karen Randolph´s 106 set last year). Lauren Brinskelle added 18 service points, five aces and four kills, and Taylor Gilmour had eight service points and 11 digs. Great Job Tigers.

Tuesday, September 26
Tigers Pound Boynton
On an otherwise uneventful Monday night, the Tigers handled Boynton Beach easily 25-7, 25-3, 25-8. Allie Warren had 16 service points and 12 aces and Rachael Albright added 22 assists to lead Martin County (14-7). Lauren Brinskelle also had 14 service points and nine aces for Martin County.

Up next for County is Centennial on Tuesday

Tigers Lose to an In-County Rival for the First Time- Ever!
One streak ended as the Jensen Beach Falcons came from behind to win a dramatic victory over the Tigers in Jensen Beach. After going undefeated against South Fork and Jensen Beach over the years, this one goes down as a first. After winning games one and two 26-24, 25-23, the Tigers allowed the Falcons to rebound and they lost the final three 25-23, 25-15, 21-19. The home court advantage in JB may have given the Falcons the edge in the final games. This splits the season series at one game apiece with the deciding match to be likely played out for the 2006 Treasure Coast Championship. For the match, Taylor Gilmour recorded 36 digs, and Allie Warren contributed 21 kills, 10 service points and 25 digs. Lauren Brinskelle posted 19 service points and 26 digs, and Rachael Albright had 42 assists.

Thursday, September 21
Vero Falls by the Wayside, Conference Finals Clinched
After a 25-15, 25-16 and 25-8 whipping of the Indians last night, the Tigers will be in the Treasure Lake Conference Championships for the sixteenth consecutive season. In the win, Allie Warren returned from injury and contributed 7 kills, 12 service pts and 15 digs.   Rachael Albright had 20 assists and 8 service pts. Lauren Brinskelle had 6 kills and 8 service pts with 11 digs. Elise Walch added 7 kills and 7 blocks. Bring on Jensen tonight- let's go County!

County Wins Number Twelve, Freshman Record Falls
Last night's game was a special one. Not only did the Tigers take out Dwyer, but working the scoreboard as usual was Ron Corbin. He spent the game watching as his daughter's freshman kill record was smashed by freshman middle hitter Elise Walch. Elise's fourteen kills moved her into first place with 121. Ron's daughter Candace had set the previous record of 117 in 1990. For the game, the Tigers swept 25-23, 25-16, 25-21. Rachael Albright had 20 assists and three kills. Rachel Cuthrell had 12 service points. Allison Lewen had five kills. Lauren Brinskelle four kills. Taylor Gilmour added nine digs. Up next are the Indians of Vero Beach tonight at 7pm and the upstart Falcons of Jensen Beach on Thursday night at 7:30 at Jensen. Jensen is currently ranked #1 in 4A but are 0-3 all time against the Tigers. Let's keep that streak alive County!

County Takes No Bull from West Boca
After three losses last season, the Tigers finally got the West Boca monkey off their backs last night. A see saw battle resulted in a Martin County victory, 20-25, 25-21, 21-25, 26-24, 15-12. Setter Rachael Albright had 44 assists, 19 digs and 11 kills. Allie Warren had 13 kills, 13 service points and 23 digs, and Elise Walch had 13 kills, 14 blocks and eight service points. Lauren Briskelle added six kills, 11 service points and 21 digs, Rachel Cuthrell had seven kills and 11 blocks, and Taylor Gilmour had 18 service points and 17 digs. Up next for the Tigers will be our own East Coast Challenge. County will look to improve upon last year's runner up (to West Boca) effort.

Two Wins in Orlando
It was a tough weekend in Orlando for the Tigers. Up and down play through the weekend resulted in some nice wins, but also some close losses. To start the weekend, the Tigers played 3A # 1 and defending 3A State Champs Lake Highland. The tough match resulted in a loss 16-25, 26-28. Up next was the Green Wave from FT. Myers, the County girls again couldn't get rolling and lost 22-25, 7-25. The third match was played Saturday morning and it seems the Tigers were more on track as they beat Episcopal 25-22, 25-22. A Episcopal win over Ft Myers on Friday and a lower point differential left the Tigers in the copper bracket where they lost another tough match to Okeechobee 25-22, 20-25, 12-15 before rebounding to a 25-13, 25-22 win over defending 4A State Champs Suncoast.

Thursday, September 7
46-0
Most of the County players were just toddlers when South Fork opened and they probably don´t remember most of the the previous forty-five matches the Tigers have had with the Bulldogs. They do know one thing, they all ended the same way- Tiger victories. Forty six of them. Last night the Tigers controlled the entire match and once again came away victorious 25-21, 25-15, 25-15. Junior Allie Warren had 16 service points, nine kills and 15 digs, junior Rachael Albright had 21 assists and freshman Elise Walch had nine blocks and 12 kills. Rachel Cuthrell had eight blocks and junior Taylor Gilmour had 11 service points, 5 aces and 12 digs, and freshman Lauren Brinskelle added six kills.

Time to Stick a Fork in the Fork
Once again, the South Fork volleyball team will look to end a lifetime of domination of the Martin County Tigers. County alumnus and South Fork coach Stephanie Skidmore has had this date circled on her calendar for some time. The 3-1 Tigers, fresh off their three game sweep of Fort Pierce Central (25-6, 25-4, 25-16) will look to keep their status as the top team in the county. To be the best, you have to beat the best and all roads lead through County.

Wednesday, September 6
County Tops Cobras
As is often the case, a match against Fort Peirce Central is more of a tune-up than it is a challenge. The Tigers travelled to visit the Cobras and tooka week and a hlaf of pent up agression out on them. The result was a 25-6, 25-4, 25-16 victory. Leading the way for the Tigers was Allie Warren with 17 service points and 9 kills. Rachael Albright had 16 assists and 16 service points with eight aces. Elise Walch added seven kills and five blocks. Kim Jeacoma had seven kills, Lauren Brinskelle added nine service points and five kills, and Taylor Gilmour had 14 points and eight aces. Nice work Tigers.

Champions Tournament this Weekend to Feature Top Ranked Teams
This weekend will supply quite a test for the young Tigers. Heading into the Champions tournament, the Tigers will be in Pool B with defending 3A State Champs (and currently ranked #1 in 3A) Lake Highland, Fort Myers, and Episcopal. Last year, the Tigers surprised Lake Highland and handed them one of their few losses on the year. This year´s contests will be battles for sure. Also at the tournament are 6A #1 Winter Park, #2 Spanish River, #4 Timber Creek, as well as 5A #3 West Boca, 4A #1 Okeechobee, 1A #1 Orangewood Christian, and defending 4A State Champion Suncoast. The Tigers open at 5pm against Lake Highland, then play Fort Myers at 8pm, and Episcopal at 9am Saturday. Bracket play begins at 11:30 on Saturday. All games will be played at Champions Sporting Complex in Orlando.

Okeechobee Stuns Tigers
A couple of Tigers were not even born the last time something like this happened. October 1990 was the last time County lost to the Brahmans. Similar to the Sebastian victory over the Tigers three years ago, Okeechobee had a senior laden team desperate for a victory and on this night they were just good enough. The Tigers lost 12-25, 25-27, 26-28. In the loss Allie Warren recorded 14 service points and six kills, Elise Walch had nine blocks, six kills and 10 points and Rachael Albright added 18 assists. Earlier the 9th grade team won 25-18, 28-26
and the JV lost 16-25, 24-26.

Thursday, August 24
Score Two in the Win Column
Two nights into their season and the Tigers are 2-0. On Tuesday night, Rachael Albright had 37 assists and 18 service points and Allie Warren added 10 kills and 13 service points to help Martin County defeat Olympic Heights 25-8, 25-11, 25-7. On Wednesday they defeated Jupiter 25-22, 25-23, 22-25, 25-16. Against Jupiter, Rachael Albright had 39 assists and 15 service points, Elise Walch had 10 kills and Lauren Brinskelle added nine kills for Martin County (2-0).

Pre-Season Jamboree Completed!
Last night at County's traditional pre-seaon opener at Spanish River, the Tigers showed they they are still among the Florida's top teams. The gym entertained fast and furious action the entire night. County lost the first match to Spanish River 23-25, 12-25 and the second match 22-25, 27-25, 17-19 to West Boca. The action was exceptionally fierce betweenfor the long-time rivals and the results bode well for the young Tigers as the season unfolds.   Expect great things from your Tigers this year.

Senior co-captain Katie Beale topped off her illustrious Tiger career by signing with Flagler college. Flagler head coach Taylor Mott was anxious to sign the All State athlete and 2005 Stuart News Player of the Year. Club Season Has Begun
One of the things that has made the Martin County Volleyball program so successful is the hard off-season work of the players. In addition to weightlifting, most of the players also are playing USAV or AAU volleyball as well. This year the Tigers are spread out over the tri-county area playing for Palm Beach High Performance, Volei-tech, Indian River Academy, and for Treasure Coast. The exposure to different styles and coaches allows the players to experience new methods and curb bad habits that might have accumulated over the years. Good luck to all you Tigers wherever you are!

2005 Varsity Captains
All Staters Katie and Patti
A great recognition to the outstanding senior co-captains Katie Beale and Patti Leonard. A place on the Florida Sportswriter's 5A All State Team. This is Patti's second All State honor making her only the second player in Tiger history to make two All State teams. Katie's All State award is her first. Both Katie and Patti close out successful careers as Martin County Tigers having written their names all over the team recordbook pages as being either number one or two in nearly every career offensive and defensive category. Check out the "Team History/Records" page to see how these ladies stack up. This last award is just the icing on their cakes. Congratulations.

Weightlifting. It may not be as glamourous a spectator sport as volleyball, but weightlifting helps volleyball players in many ways in addition to the obvious one- getting stronger. Let us name a few. #1 Increased balance #2 Less susceptibility to injury #3 Jump higher #4 Increased endurance Many County volleyball players are determined to improve their game off the court by working hard in the weight room. Yesterday's quad meet featured many volleyball players from rival schools Sebastian, South Fork, and Jensen. Two Tigers placed in their respective weight classes. Congratulations to Aubrey Radford- 3rd and Rachael Albright- 4th for placing in their first competition. Several other Tigers also finished well; Ayla Flickinger- 7th, Meghan Crooks- 7th, Lauren Olsen- 8th, Julie Higgs- 9th. Good luck to all the players over the season.

Stuart News- Players of the Year!
2005 Varsity Captains
Team Captains and Players of the Year
Nine out of the last ten seasons, the Stuart News Player of the Year honor has either been won outright or shared by a Martin County Tiger. This season, for the first time, the award was both won AND shared byTWO Martin County Tigers. If you spent any time watching volleyball around the Treasure Coast this past season, one team and two individual players really stood head and shoulders above the rest. No, they weren't towering six footers, but they played over and around and through anyone who was. Nothing short of "dominant" could describe the play of the Martin County Tigers and their two top hitters Katie Beale and Patti Leonard. The Martin County co-captains helped the Tigers to an undefeated Treasure Coast Championship and a spot in the 5A regional semifinals. In return, the two were named the Stuart News Players of the Year by the press and area coaches. Without the incredible setting of sophomore Rachael Albright, our Players of the Year would have had a more difficult time amassing their kills. Her setting prowess has won her a place on the All-Area team as well. Congratulations ladies.

Season Ends in Naples
NAPLES- Heading into the regional against Barron Collier, Martin County expected to be challenged by the Cougar's towering front row. In the end, the Tiger defense was not up to the challenge. After a game one 25-23 victory, the Cougars turned up the pressure with some impressive hitting. Unable to get enough quality digs to run the offense, the Tigers settled for lesser hits and free balls. Those were not enough against BC's big hitters and County lost the next three games 20-25, 23-25, and 21-25. A tough loss for the five County seniors as well as the entire team. We want to thank all our fans for all their support over the season.

Coach Bielicki
On a day where Coach Bielicki would like attention focused on the volleyball team, it was announced that he had passed legendary Don Wallen as the all-time leader in athletic victories at Martin County High School. The team victory over Sebastian River last Saturday put him all alone into first place. In his 24 years as Head Volleyball Coach he has amassed a whopping 542 wins, at an average of over 22 wins each year. Even more amazing is the fact that he has NEVER had a losing season. His dedication to the team is second to none.

STUART- Now in her third year on varsity senior co-captain Katie Beale was named as Stuart News Player of the Week after a dominant regional outing against Sebastian River. Her 25 kill, 11 dig, and eight block performance rallied the Tigers past rival Sebastian and allowed 23-5 County to move onto the regional semifinals against Barron Collier. Congratulations Katie.

County Alumni Lead College Teams
2005 kmorrisroe
Triton Kelly Morrisroe
Coach Bielicki preaches "defense wins" matches and former Tigers are showing this is true at the college level as well. Martin County Volleyball Class of 2002 alums Kelly Morrisroe and Whitney Warren both lead their respective teams defensively. Warren averages over 6 digs per game, almost twice as many as the number two Sailfish, at Palm Beach Atlantic. She also leads the team in service aces and served the winning match point in last years NCCAA Championship match. Morrisroe's nearly 5 digs per gameleads the Eckerd Tritons in St. Petersburg. Such outstanding defensive effort resulted in Kelly twice being named Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week- on September 12 and most recently October 23.

Whitney and the Sailfish squad, which includes her younger sister and 2005 County graduate Sara Beth, attempt to defend their NCCAA championship next week with a 25-8 record while Kelly and the Tritons stand at 12-9 with six matches remaining try to make it into the NCAA Division II Regionals in mid-November. Best wishes to these former Tigers- Martin County is proud of you!

SEBASTIAN RIVER- The Tigers knew that Sebastian River would be ready to play a big match and the Sharks did not disappoint them. Finding ways to score against the Tiger defense, the Sharks refused to let County run away with the victory. The action in the first game showed that the Tigers were intent on winning as they strung together a few runs to lead 17-11 before letting Sebastian sneak back into the game. A few big Tiger plays closed out the game 25-23. Game two had Sebastian leading most of the way before the Tigers tied it at 22-22 only to lose 22-25. The third game was the only one sided game of the match as the Tigers took advantage of poor Shark passing to win 25-16. Still, Sebastian River refused to give up battling all the way to the end of a game four 25-21 Martin County victory. Having big games at the service line were Jami Perry (11 service points, 4 digs) and Becky Zambo (14 service points, 13 digs). Running the offense was setter Rachael Albright with 38 assists most of which went to Katie Beale (25 kills, 14 digs, 7 blocks) and Patti Leonard (16 kills, 6 service points, 4 aces). Defensively Allie Warren added 11 digs (10 service points, 4 kills, 2 aces) and Karen Randolph clogged the hitting lanes all afternoon finishing with a season high 15 blocks. The 23-5 Tigers will likely play next on Thursday against the winner of the Barron Collier-Northeast matchup, but check the FHSAA website for updates.

Feeding Frenzy to Take Place Against Sebastian River Sharks
2005 jperry
STUART- The Tigers versus the Sharks. The last few seasons this game was highlighted on all the schedules. Cream of the Treasure Coast volleyball crops. North versus South. Both teams possess standout athletes and high caliber offenses. Martin County coach Marty Bielicki and Sebastian River's Mike McCall are veteran, experienced leaders. Today the difference will be the same as it was in previous matchups- who will show up to play. This time the loser goes home, and stays there. It is the same in baseball, football, basketball, as it is in volleyball- offense wins games, but defense wins championships. Coach Bielicki believes that the Tigers will be strong defensively. Anchored by senior defensive specialist Jami Perry, Coach likes his defense. Sophomore Lauren Olsen is also ready to dig up anything that comes her way and Bielicki believes he has his best passing team in years ready to supply the offense with opportunities for kills. The game is at 2pm in Sebastian River. Don't miss the action.

Final State Poll Drops Tigers a Few More Rungs
The Florida Sportswriters were unkind to Coach Bielicki's Tigers after their loss to #2 West Boca in the District Finals. Winning is the only thing that counts in this poll. Martin County was dropped to eighth behind other district winners from throughout the state. Despite the drop, Coach like his chances with this year's squad, which he says has the most potential of any County squad in the last few years. He doesn't mind entering the state final four "through the back door", but to do so he needs his leaders to step up to the challenge. Those same sportswriters will be voting to determine if those Martin County leaders bring enough game to make it to the All State teams as well. A final four appearance goes a long way with those voters.

Regional Matchups Set
All the district results are in and the regional matchups have been posted by the FHSAA. Region Four will be stacked with top teams from the 5A classification. Number eight ranked Martin County will face Sebastian River in a rematch of the Treasure Lake conference championship to open their quest for a regional title.

Sophomore Rachael Albright
WEST PALM BEACH- The stands were packed with County supporters, but the Tigers just didn't bring enough game with them to the match. It seemed that County played from behind all night long and couldn't string together enough points to take down West Boca. The biggest Tiger lead of the match was only three points and too many errors separated County from the District crown. Valiantly leading the way for the Tigers were the one-two combination of setter Rachael Albright and middle hitter Katie Beale. The set-kill combination resulted in 31 assists for Rachael (7 service points, 2 aces) and 30 kills for Katie (7 blocks, 15 digs). However West Boca never gave the Tigers much of an opportunity to steal the victory. The match was close the whole way but County ended up on the wrong end if the score 17-25, 26-24, 21-25, and 25-27. The regional Quarterfinal against Sebastian River is currently scheduled Wednesday evening, but stay tuned for Hurricane updates.

County Drops One Spot to #3 in Poll
Sometime over the course of the past week, the Florida Sportswriters decided to flip-flop their #2 and #3 picks in the 5A poll. After dropping the West Boca Bulls last week behind the Tigers, The writers changed their minds and moved the Bulls back up to #2 ahead of Martin County. The top team remains the same from every poll this season Tampa Plant.

County Secures 16th Straight Regional Appearance
2005 District End
WEST PALM BEACH - The beat goes on for Coach Bielicki's Tigers. The South Fork squad that showed up at the gym for Districts was not ready for the girls from County. Right out of the gate behind the serving of co-captain Patti Leonard (10 kills, 22 service points, 6 aces) the Tigers ran out to a 8-0 lead. A few minutes later the score was 12-3 and two of the Bulldog three came from Tiger missed serves. The match was never in doubt as Martin County trailed only briefly 2-3 at the beginning of game two. The rest of the night was a County field day resulting in a convincing 25-17, 25-16, 25-10 Martin County victory. The Tiger's other co-captain Katie Beale supplied the bulk of the offense with a 12 kills (10 digs, 3 blocks) making it look easy against the Bulldog defense. Sophomore Rachael Albright dished out 22 assists in the victory. The the 22-4 Tigers will look for the District Championship at 7pm tomorrow night versus the West Boca. Go Tigers.

Regional Berth up for Grabs Tonight
2005 Close up Varsity
The South Fork volleyball team has been the redheaded stepchild of Martin County throughout its 24 year existence. Year in and year out, the Bulldogs have been unable to crack the armor of County Volleyball. Coach Bielicki recalls many years in which he felt that the Bulldogs had a chance to finally break through. He feels that this year's team still has as good a chance as any. "They have a good group of seniors and they have nothing to lose, but everything to gain" is what he told his Tigers last night. Coach Bielicki expects a battle tonight with a playoff berth on the line. Many of the Tiger seniors know just what to expect from the Bulldogs having played together on the same club teams for years. They also know that they have history on their side. Twenty-four years of Tiger dominance- the #2 team in the state would like to make that an even quarter century. Game tonight is at 5pm at Palm Beach Dwyer. Don't miss it!

2005 Districts- New Faces, Same Goals
During the 2002 and 2004 seasons, Martin County was seeded #2 headed into the district tournament. Both times, County had lost regular season matches to district rival Royal Palm. But it is said, that it doesn't matter how you start, it is how you finish that counts. Well, both times, County won the District Championship over Royal Palm. This season, the Tigers are in a new district with a new set of opponents and a new rival -West Boca. Twice this season, County has lost matches on their home court to West Boca in three games. Will the third try be the charm for County? Coach Bielicki likes his chances. The Tigers have won seven straight matches and climbed towards the top of the 5A poll. After 23 years, Coach understands what it takes to bring a team into the post season. Three teams have beat County this season and against each, the Tigers have won at least one game showing that they can play with anybody.   Last week's victory in the Treasure Coast Conference Championships over Sebastian River demonstrated that the Tigers have taken their game to post-season form right on time.

2005 Ranking 1012
Heading into the Districts and Regionals, the 21-4 Tigers will carry a big target on their backs that comes with the #2 (5A) ranking in the state. The Tigers moved up from #4 after both West Boca and St. Thomas experienced losses last week and County won the Cnference with a victory over #10 Sebastian. The last time the Tigers achieved such a lofty status was in 2000 when the Tigers finished the regular season ranked #3 in 6A. Ranked ahead of the Tigers is a loaded Tampa Plant squad; the #3 and #4 teams (West Boca and St. Thomas) will stand in County's way in their quest for the program' first final four trip in six seasons.

2005 Treasure Lake Conference Champs
For two years the conference championship banner rested in Sebastian River. Tonight, it came home to where it belongs- Martin County. After a flat first game loss (15-25) where the Tiger offense was dormant, Coach Bielicki challenged the team and the Tiger hitters came to life. Behind huge outputs from middles Karen Randolph (11 kills and 10 blocks)and Katie Beale (17 kills and 16 blocks) as well as outside hitter Patti Leonard (13 kills and 11 digs), Martin County proceeded to dismantle the 16-2 Sharks. Game two ended in a 25-19 County victory and it wasn't even close after that. Games three and four produced twin 25-14 victories for the Tigers to close out the match and the 2005 Treasure Lake Conference Championship- game, set, match to the Tigers. Martin County (21-4) will look for a District Championship next week at Palm Beach Dwyer Wednesday and Thursday.

JV Finishes 3rd at St. Thomas Tournament
2005 JV
2005 JV Team
Heading down to Fort Lauderdale on Saturday morning, the County JV team was looking forward to some excellent competition at the St. Thomas Aquinas JV Invitational and they were not dissappointed. Starting off in pool play, the Tigers played a very scrappy Westminster Academy team from Miami. After a dominating game one victory 25-12, the Tigers won the second in come frome behind fashion 27-25. In the second match, County played Davie Western winning convincingly 25-20, 25-13 to set up the last match for the first place in the pool with Archbishop McCarthy. Both teams traded leads through both games with County winning game one 25-22 and McCarthy winning game two 25-21. Without a tie-breaking third game, County ended up as second place in the pool by point differential criteria. This meant that the Tigers had to face Pool A first place team and host St. Thomas Aquinas in order to make it to the Championship game. The unbeaten and eventual Champion Raiders had not been tested all day and they jumped out to big leads on both games. The Tigers were unable to mount a sufficient comeback for either game losing 12-25, and 14-25 to finish tied for third place overall with Ransom Everglades. For the day, the Tigers were lead offensively by Ashley Bethel, Allison Lewen, and Kim Jeacoma. The team "digging machines" were Libero Amanda Mangels and DS Emily Ryan who supplied the Tigers with excellent passes and digs all day. The JV Tigers finish the season at 10-6-1.

Ranking 1004
After pushing their win total to twenty (20-4) last week with a big win over Okeechobee (#9 4A), the Tigers gained a little attention from the state pollsters. The curent FSWA poll has County ranked #4 in class 5A. After six straight wins in the past two weeks, County leap-frogged over four other teams to 4th. A big match-up with Sebastian River (#13 5A) looms on the 11th for the Treasure Coast Conference Championship. The Sharks dropped out of the poll despite only having two losses on the season. In order to climb to the top, County will likely have to beat the three teams ranked ahead of them- St. Thomas, West Boca, and Plant. If County can beat those teams, all in our half of the bracket, they'll deserve the chance to be champs. Go Tigers!

The Tigers Seek to Regain TL Conference Championship
The hurricanes of 2004 cancelled the Treasure Lake Conference Championships leaving County with two years absent from their conference championship banner. From 1988-2002, the Tigers reigned supreme over their conference opponents. In 2003, an undefeated and senior laden Sebastian River team came looking to mix it up with the Tigers. When they finished the match as new conference champs, a stunned County team could only watch them celebrate. For two long years the Tigers have awaited for the chance to return that championship banner back to where it belongs- Stuart, Florida. The 16-2 and 10th ranked (5A) Sebastian team looks to leapfrog the 20-4 and 8th ranked (5A) Tigers in the state standings as well as keep their conference crown for another year. Standing in their way will be some VERY determined players in County blue and gold.

9th Grade Team Finishes with a Victory
2005 Freshman
2005 Freshmen
Coach Hayden's 9th grade squad closed out their season with a resounding 25-10, 25-18 victory over Okeechobee. After having over half last year's season cancelled by last hurricanes, the Tigers were happy to play this year. Leading the way were this year's captains Aubrey Radford, Megan Crooks, and Casey Schnell. Victories against Okeechobee, John Carroll, St. Michael's, and South Fork brought the season record to four wins and four losses. With fewer and fewer area programs fielding 9th grade teams, it is hard to schedule enough quality matches for a productive season. Some schools are looking to bring programs back as they realize that many of these 9th grade players are the varsity players of tomorrow.

Tigers Win 20th
2005 Seniors
Seniors Becky, Patti, Katie, Karen, Jami
The Brahmans of Okeechobee came in strutting the #6 ranking in Class 4A, highest in their history. But history will also tell you that it has been a long, long time since the County Tigers have lost on Senior Night. Last night it was the seniors who made the difference, the collective play of Becky Zambo, Jami Perry, Katie Beale, Karen Randolph, and Patti Leonard was too much for the Brahmans to handle. The #8 (5A) ranked Tigers went for the kill early and often and despite a big game one battle from Okeechobee won 25-22. In the next two, it was evident that County's experience and skill were too much for the Brahmans as County never trailed, winning 25-12, 25-15. With the victory, County becomes the first Florida school to pass the 20 win plateau. Their record now stands at 20-4 heading into the post-season.

In the afternoon games, The 9th grade and JV teams split with the Brahmans. The 9th grade team put on their best performance to close out their season with a victory 25-10, 25-18. However, the JV match was much more evenly played. County won game one convincingly 25-16 before lapsing in game two 14-25. The third was tightly contested, but Okeechobee's defense proved better in a 13-15 Tiger loss. The JV will head to St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale next weekend for their season-ending tournament. They are seeded first in Pool B with Archbishop McCarthy, Westminster Academy, and Western. Pool A has St. Thomas as the #1 then Ransom Everglades, Coral Springs, and Pine Crest. The current JV record is 8-5.

JV Headed to St. Thomas to Close Season
Last night's JV match was very evenly played. County won game one convincingly 25-16 before lapsing in game two 14-25. The third was tightly contested, but Okeechobee's defense proved better in a 13-15 Tiger loss. The JV will head to Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas next weekend for their season-ending tournament. They are seeded #1 in Pool B with Archbishop McCarthy, Westminster Academy, and Davie-Western. Pool A has St. Thomas as the #1 then Ransom Everglades, Coral Springs, and Pine Crest. The JV currently is 8-5.

Senior Night a Big Success
2005 Seniors
2005 Seniors
Five Seniors, all starters for the 20-4, 8th ranked (5A) Tigers. Coach Bielicki's volleyball program has always been built around his senior class. As young, promising players develop, Coach brings them up to Varsity where most spend a year or two on the bench before cracking the lineup. Some are able to make an impact right away and Coach promotes them early. But one thing is for sure, Coach will play his seniors. After last year's cast of six graduated, many felt that things might take a slight downward swing- everyone except those close to the program. Lining up on the other side of the practice net all last season were this year's new crop of starters. Working hard, learning the system, waiting for their chance to prove themselves. Senior Patti Leonard joined the varsity mid-season her freshman year and had to battle for playing time, Katie Beale made varsity as a sophomore and now both are leading the team in numerous categories. Karen Randolph, Jami Perry, and Becky Zambo joined the varsity as juniors and had to wait their turn behind last year's incredible senior class. Now it is their turn to all shine together. Here they are, ranked in the top ten, with another 20 win season, ready to claim district and conference championships, looking to head on to regionals and then the ultimate prize- STATES. The last County team to make it to Lakeland was the 1999 squad. This year's seniors would like nothing more than to put the icing on their cake during this, their senior year.

County Clubs the Cobras
Fort Pierce Central has a new coach, a new attitude, and lots of enthusiasm. A greatly improved team came down from Fort Pierce tonight lookgin to prove themselves. What they discovered was that they still have a long way to go. A dominant performance by Martin County dismissed all hope early. From the opening serve, it was certain that County meant business. Three quick games later, it was all over. The final scores were 25-8, 25-8, and 25-9. The outcome was never in doubt for the Tigers who seemed to have their way with the Lady Cobra defense. A 19-4 Martin County squad will seek to be the first team in the state with 20 victories of the season tomorrow night against a 10-4 Okeechobee team ranked 6th in 4A. Expect a battle between these two rivals.

The County JV started strong out of the gates and dismantled Central convincingly 25-10, 25-4. Strong Tiger serving kept the Cobras off balance throughout the match. They will take a 6 game win streak into tomorrow's match against Okeechobee.

Senior Captain Katie Beale
The Tigers locked up a second seed for the district playoff with a road sweep of W.T. Dwyer in West Palm Beach. It seemed the Panthers were not going to lay down for County tonight as they came out intent on spoiling the party. The first game was a back and forth affair and after Dwyer knotted the score at 20-20, County pulled ahead to win 25-21. The second and third game went more County's way. The Tigers controlled the action behind excellent spikes from Katie Beale, Patti Leonard, and Allie Warren and finished games two and three with 25-14, 25-19 victories. Supplying the defense were back-row standouts Lauren Olsen, Taylor Gilmore, and senior Jami Perry. At the net Katie Beale also contributed 8 blocks to effectively quelch any thoughts of a Dwyer upset. County's record is now 18-4.

In the JV matchup, The Tigers swept the Panthers to keep their winning streak alive at 5 games headed into tomorrow and Thursday's matches. Final scores were 25-17 and 25-12. Leading the way for County were middle hitter Stephy Howard and setter Allison Lewen. Strong serving came from Kim Jeacoma and Amanda Mangels. The JV is now 7-4 for the season.

Regular Season Wraps Up Next Week
Hard to believe that the post-season is just around the corner. After finishing the week with three straight victories, the Tigers are looking forward to clinching the second seed in the district with a victory Tuesday at Dwyer. Two home conference matches with Ft. Pierce Central and Okeechobee are slated for Wednesday and Thursday nights. After that, the Tigers will await their Conference Championship game on October 11th and the District tournament which begins October 18th at Dwyer. The Tigers would like nothing less than to get another shot at West Boca on their way to the ultimate goal- the State Tournament in Lakeland.

County Rolls Over PSL
2005 krandolph
Happy 18th Karen!
County put the finishing touches on this week's matches with a thrashing of Port St. Luice last night. This week's three victories against one loss leaves the Tigers at 17-4 for the season. The Jaguars harbored no delusions of greatness and this one may have been over during warmups. As the Tigers crushed ball after ball to the floor prior to the match, Jaguar players watched with lumps in their throats. When the match started, four consecutive Patti Leonard service aces confirmed that it would be a long night- or rather or a short one. Thirty five minutes and three consecutive Tiger wins later, the match indeed was over 25-5, 25-11, 25-8. There was time during the match for a quick rendition of "Happy Birthday" to celebrate Karen Randolph's seventeenth.

In the JV opener, County rolled up a 25-4 first game victory before surrendering a remarkable game two comeback to the Jags 23-25. The final game went the Tiger's way 15-7. The JV will take a four game win streak into next week's matches.

Tigers Crack Top Ten
2005 Ranking
Iron sharpens iron- Coach Bielicki knows that to be the best, you have to play against the best and this year's schedule has allowed County to flex their muscles against some of the state and nation's best. Now, for the first time this season, Martin County makes an appearance on the state top ten poll. The 15-4 Tigers are ranked #8 in class 5A. All four of their losses have come to other highly ranked schools with a combined record of 38-3. 12-1 Oviedo is #5 in 6A, 16-1 Boca is #2 in 5A, and 10-1 Orangewood is #2 in 2A. Among their wins, County has defeated then national #22 and current 3A #6 Lake Highland as well as then national #77 and defending Alabama 6A runner-ups Grissom. A looming showdown with conference opponent and 4A #8 Okeechobee is scheduled for next Thursday the 29th and then a possible matchup with 5A #9 Sebastian for the Conference Championship on Tuesday October 11th. All of these matches will hopefully take the Tigers to a district title rematch with West Boca and then on to regionals where the action gets even hotter- the top four teams and seven out of the top ten 5A schools are in the same side of the state series bracket as the Tigers! Go County!

The 2005 Tigers are looking for their best finish since the 2002 squad posted a 27-6 record.

County Takes Care of John Carroll
2005 awarren
Sophomore OH Allie Warren
Entering the match with Martin County, John Carroll wanted to show they were at the same level as the Tigers. Once the match started only similarities was that each team had six players on the court at the same time. Spectacular back-row defense kept John Carroll from getting blown out of the gym, but their offense was no match for the Tigers. Mismatched John Carroll blockers had no answers for the aerial assault of the County attackers. Kill after kill was put down by Patti Leonard, Katie Beale, and Allie Warren. Back row defense by Jami Perry, Lauren Olsen, and Taylor Gilmore provided setters Rachel Albright and Becky Zambo with offensive options all night long. The final score was 25-16, 25-14, 25-14. County sits at 16-4 as the head into the week ending match at PSl tomorrow night.

In the afternoon warm-ups. The County freshman played without two key players and seemed to run out of gas by the end of the match ending 25-16, 22-25, 7-15. In game two, The Tiger JV scored a little payback for an early season loss to John Carroll by winning 25-23, 25-21. Key serves from Stephy Howard and Caitlyn Howard preserved the victory.

Centennial Unprepared for County Rebound
2005 ralbright
Sophomore Rachael Albright
After last night's disappointment, the Martin County Tigers needed to get back on track. They had to do so tonight without starting outside hitter Patti Leonard who was out sick. No problem. Coach Bielicki went into his deep bench and the Tigers responded with a tremendous display of serving and offense. Setter Rachael Albright served up 22 points with 6 aces and Katie Beale switched to outside and ripped 17 kills through the Centennial block and defense. The whole County squad rode out this victory 25-4, 25-4, 25-6.

In the JV game, the other Martin County Tiger #3 Amanda Mangels served up 11 aces in the first game setting a single game JV record. The Tigers cruised to a 25-9, 25-18 win. Tomorrow will bring John Carroll into Stuart in a rematch for all three teams.

Boca, Boca, Boca
Tonight it was County's turn to be on the receiving end of the whipping stick. A 8-1 County start in game one was about all the get up and go County could muster for the night. After that point, the Tigers' get up and go seemed to have got up and went. Boca rallied for a 25-18 win in game one and controlled the match the rest of the night. The next two games caught county flat-footed as many a ball dropped to their side of the floor in the Boca sweep 25-17, 25-20. Despite their ear-splitting cheers, the rowdy Tiger faithful could not spark any Tiger offense. 14-4 Martin County looks to rebound tomorrow as visiting Centennial comes to Stuart for some action.

In the JV opener, Allison Lewen served for 11 points and Amanda Mangels played stellar defense in leading the Tigers to a 25-20, 26-24 win.

On September 16th, some of the top schools in Florida will square off at the East Coast Challenge. The competition will be a stiff mid-season test for all the teams involved. Streaking Vero Halted
Riding a 5 game win streak into last night's match with the Tigers, Vero Beach had a gym full of fans looking for an upset. Break out the Pepto Vero, the only thing gettin upset would be you.. The upstart Indians have their best team in years and a new coach, but the outcome was still the same- a three game County sweep. The balanced Tiger offense kept the Indians at bay all evening, and aside from a few well-placed Indian attacks, the Tiger defense was equally willing to dish out some "in-your-face" plays. Game one took the Tigers out to 8-2 and 17-9 leads before ending 25-15. In game two, Bielicki once again went to his deep bench and returned a similar result 25-17. Game three was deja vu all over again 25-15. Leading the way for the Tigers were the usual suspects. Katie Beale, Allie Warren, and the nigh unstoppable Patti Leonard anchored the hit parade behind the picture perfect setting of Racael Albright and Becky Zambo. Securing the defense were Jami Perry, Lauren Olsen, and Karen Randolph- yes Karen, we saw you back there making some digs! Headed into this weekend's East Coast Challenge, 10-2 Martin County is looking forward to the competition. 13 of the 16 teams are ranked in their respective classes. Action begins at 4:30 Friday.

In the JV matchup, Vero had County's number in another 3 game battle. Game 1 went to County 25-22. Game two went to Vero 25-10. The decisive third game brought the best action of the entire evening with the County and Vero girls going back and forth with some hard won points. It's always a shame that someone has to lose a game like that, but in the end, the final ball dropped on the County side of the court for a 18-16 Vero victory.

Stick a Fork in the Fork- Again
Three up, three down. South Fork came into the gym with something to prove, but left disappointed. The group of South Fork seniors had never beaten Martin County, for that matter in 24 years no South Fork senior had ever beaten County, and they were hoping that this might be their year. But the Martin County seniors had also never lost to South Fork and their were out to make sure that this definitely wouldn't be the year to break that tradition! The message was sent in game one. Right out of the chute, the Tigers dominated. South Fork never came close in the 25-14 win. Game two was another story. The crowd was treated to some furious back and forth action as neither team would give in. The last point of game two was the longest rally of the night, the ball going back and forth coming within a hair's breadth of hitting the floor a half dozen times before County scored point 26 to South Fork's 24. The wind out of their sails, South Fork did not mount much offense and succumbed to the much more talented County Tigers in game three 25-18. For this night, it didn't matter the size of the bulldog in the fight nor the size of the fight in the bulldog- County was victorious three games to zero.

Both the Freshman and JV games went to three with County freshmen winning the opener 19-25, 25-15, 15-11. Too many errors cost the JV team dearly and they fell 25-22, 23-25, 10-15. Both JV and Varsity play at Vero Beach tomorrow at 5:30 and 6:30.

The JV Tigers will be looking for a little payback for the early season loss to the Indians. We need some parents to drive becuase it is too late to schedule a bus. Meet tonight after the South Fork game with Coach Butski.

Coach Bileicki has never lost to South Fork
You have to know that South Fork Coach and Martin County Alum Stephanie Skidmore would like nothing more than to become the first South Fork coach to beat Martin County. Coach Bielicki has never lost to the Bulldogs, but anticipates a great match with the senior-laden team Tuesday evening. As always, County enters the match as the favorite, but following last year's battle, Bielicki does not expect the Bulldogs to lay down. County will rely on their ability to terminate the play from anywhere on the court and their ball control defense to keep the streak alive.

Freshman game is at 4:30, JV at 5:30 and Varsity at 6:30.

County places 7th in Orlando Champions Classic
You know it was a tough tournament when the silver division pitted two returning state champions, both ranked nationally in the top 100, with two additonal top 10 teams AND Spanish River only makes the bronze! St. Thomas Aquinas (5A, ranked 89th) and Lake Highland (3A, ranked 22nd) joined Oviedo and the Martin County Tigers as runners up in each of their respective pools and squared off for the Silver Championship. To make the silver division, County took second in their pool at 2-1.

Friday began with the Tigers by beating a young and scrappy Glades Day team 25-10, 25-22, and the very tall Timber Creek squad from Orlando 25-20, 25-18 setting up a match-up with eventual champion Orangewood Christian for 1st place in the pool Saturday morning. Trading kills with the powerful Orangewood team County lost the first game 27-29, before rallying in the second 25-17. The seesaw battle continued in the third game before Orangewood won 15-12 handing the Tigers their first loss of the season. Entering the first silver bracket match, County was looking for some redemption and jumped out to a 12-2 lead over the much taller Oviedo Lions. Despite having 5 front row players over six feet tall, Oveido could not handle the hard Martin County serves and were unable to mount any offense in Game 1. County won convincingly 25-12. Several game 2 service errors by the Tigers allowed Oviedo to rally for a 25-20 victory. In the deciding game 3 Oviedo's height proved too much at the net and they finished off the Tigers 15-10. In the day's final match, defending 3A State Champions Lake Highland (Ranked #22 in the COUNTRY by PrepVolleyball.com as of September 8th) awaited with a lineup full of All-Staters and D1 recruits. County refused to be intimidated by Lake Highland's star-studded offense and instead put on their own offensive show. Key front-row substitions in the second and third games allowed County to disrupt Lake Highland's heavy hitters and earned a Tiger victory 17-25, 26-24, 20-18. Varsity record is now 8 wins and 2 losses.

Boynton Goes Down in Flames
Coach Bielicki guaranteed a Tiger win in this one as County hosted the Boynton Beach "Tigers". By the end of the night it was the "Tigers" in County Blue and Gold who reigned victorious. Coach Bielicki went to the bench after a easy first game win 25-4 and played his reserves the rest of the way. Everyone had a hand in the second and third game wins 25-8, 25-8. Standing out from the bench was Taylor Gilmour with 9 service points including 5 aces. County takes a 5-0 record into this weekend's matches in Orlando. All 5 matches have been three game sweeps with an average winning score of 25-13.

Lurking at this weekend's Champions Tournament are perennial powers Suncoast, St. Thomas Aquinas, Oveido, West Boca, and Spanish River. Fortunately for the Tigers, those schools will take turns beating on each other in pool play before County has to face any of them. County will have their hands full enough with Orangewood, Timber Creek, and Glades Day in Pool B.

A Fitting End to a Big Week
2005 pleonard
Senior Patti Leonard
And Jensen makes three. Any thoughts of Jensen Beach crashing County's weeklong victory party ended quickly in Game 1. Jumping out to 7-1 and 18-11 leads, Martin County served notice that the big kid on the block still dresses in blue and gold. With the stands packed on both sides of the gym it was showtime and the Tigers did not disappoint. A three game sweep was just what Coach Bielicki ordered, and the Tigers delivered 25-15, 25-22, 25-13. Though all the Tigers contributed to the victory, one stood head and shoulders above the rest. Though only 5'6", Patti Leonard hit balls over, around, and through Jensen's six footers all night long. 14 kills and countless digs later, the All-Stater showed that she is truly one of the dominant players in the Region. On the same note, Jensen couldn't stop County's other top hitters Katie Beale and Allie Warren either. Every Jensen thought of a comeback was dashed by Rachael Albright or Becky Zambo set and the subsequent crushing blows from the left, right, middle, and back row. After hands had been shook, and the former teamates were hugged, the entire Martin County cheering section rushed the court and literally bowed down in thanks for the display. What a victory!

In the afternoon warm-ups, Jensen's freshman team proved to much for the County 9th graders winning 25-11, 25-12 while County's JV game stunned an undefeated and very confident Jensen Beach squad. After rolling through all their previous competition Jensen's expectations were dashed by a fired up County squad. Behind key aces from Ashley Bethel, Brittany Hinkley, and Cassie Langdon, timely blocks from Stephy Howard, and the hitting of Amanda Mangels, County refused to give up and won both games in come from behind fashion. Final scores were 25-18 and 25-22. Running the high octane offense was setter Allison Lewen. Though stricken with illness all day long, she brought nothing but her "A" game tonight. Together with the fired up JV captains Kim Jeacoma, Kayla Kindrew, and Caitlyn Rogers , she willed the team to victory- and put a big smile on their fans' as well as their coach's faces.

In the renewed rivalry of the two storied programs, John Carroll wanted to send a message in their home gym with their riled up home crowd. You could feel the electricity in the gym during warm ups. Things got real quiet, real fast once the game started. Jumping out to a 7-1 lead behind stellar plays of the the co-captains Katie beale and Patti Leonard, the Tigers took the fight to John Carroll. The result was a 25-11 first game victory for County. Not to be intimidated, John Carroll battled hard in the next two games but were unable to crack County's outstanding defense while they themselves were unable to match up offensively. The final result was a 25-11, 25-19, 25-23 Martin County victory.

In the Freshman and JV games, County split with John Carroll. The Tiger freshmen won the season opener 25-20, 25-23 while the JV was defeated 25-16, 25-18.

Olympic Heights, John Carroll, JENSEN!
Last week Katrina stole two days of practice and a game from the Tigers. Heading into the second week of competition, County's JV and Varsity will travel to 8 time state champion Olympic Heights arena today. Even with the opening of West Boca, look for the them to provide a test for our Tigers. Wednesday, 5 time state champs John Carroll looks to renew a rivalry as all three County teams travel north for some action.

The Tigers will use both of these matchups in preparation for the Thursday showdown with Jensen Beach. During their first season, Jensen refused to schedule a match with the senior-laden Tigers. Perhaps they feel that this season they are ready and by all accounts, Coach Sawtelle has a well-balanced team. Many of the girls on both teams have played together for years. Much more is at stake here than a "W" or an "L". The balance of volleyball power in Martin County is on the line. Martin Bowl? This one has the makings of the can't miss event of the school year. Show up early at County Thursday. You'll want a good seat for this battle......

Tuesday, August 30
Olympic Heights Falls
For the first time in the rivalry, Martin County has beaten Olympic Heights on their home floor. Amid the 7 State Championship banners along the walls at OHHS, the County Tigers never took notice of anything but the team on the other side of the net. The result was a 25-9, 25-10, 25-10 Martin County victory. The match was great preparation for tonight's showdown with John Carroll and tomorrow's highly anticipated match with Jensen Beach. Leading the way for the Tigers were senior co-captains Patti Leonard and Katie Beale. Coach Bielicki emptied his bench in games 2 and 3, and still the Tigers marched on to victory. Varisty is now 2 and 0.

In the JV game, Martin County set the tone with numerous service aces to capture a 25-15, 25-11 victory.

Directions to John Carroll Go north on U.S. 1 to Ft. Pierce, go to Virginia Avenue , turn left and go west to 25th street (St. Lucie Auditorium is on the corner), turn right and go north to Delaware Ave, turn left and go west – school is ½ or so on the right.

Quite A Start
In three short games, Martin County served noticed that they are still the class of the Treasure Coast. Vero Beach was outplayed at nearly every turn by the Tigers and had to make the long quiet bus ride home. The home team was greeted by a large and rowdy crowd and they gave the fans something to cheer nearly every point. Though vero made a strong run in the second game, County walked away victorious 25-13, 25-21, 25-14.

In the JV opener, the Martin County Tigers made too many errors and came out on the losing end 15-25, 25-23, 9-15. One bright spot was the clutch serving of Brittany Hinkley in game two to keep the match alive.

Season Begins
County puts their reputation on the line this week. With matches against Vero Beach and Port St. Lucie Tuesday and Thursday, Coach Bielicki will see just where his team sits for the 2005 season. Over the years it has seemed that the rest of the Treasure Coast has been inching closer to the level of play Martin County has established, but the Tigers entertain no thoughts of passing their crowns on. If you want a piece of County, you've got to come and get it. There's a dozen girls on the County bench with something else in mind for you.

2005 Schedule Features Cross-Town Rival Jensen Beach

The 2005 season is inching nearer and the schedule is almost set.  County drops from 6A to 5A for the next two season after the opening of Jensen Beach.  The two teams will begin their rivalry on September 1st.  Both teams will be so loaded with talent that the question begs to be asked- "What if Jensen Beach had not opened?" The answer- a lot of great volleyball players would be running cross country instead of playing volleyball! The September 1st match will pit former teammates against each other in a battle of 2004 regional qualifiers.  Will Jensen Beach's youth movement have enough guns to hang with Coach Bielicki's tried and true volleyball machine?  Martin County lost 6 seniors, but return an offense and defense that features All Area and All State performers that are looking to continue their dominance of the Treasure Coast.

Get ready for a memorable season Martin County!

Tiger for Life
2004 MJ
Molly Johnson will remain a Tiger next year, unfortunately for us she'll be a Clemson Tiger, not a Martin County one. Molly signed a Division 1 soccer scholarship offer from Clemson (S.C.). After a four year varsity volleyball career where she was three time Stuart News and Palm Beach Post All-Area selection, the outstanding two-sport star will concentrate on soccer in college. Good Luck Molly

Marty Bielicki- Stuart News Volleyball Coach of the Year
2004 mb
You would think that after winning district and conference championships year after year after year after year, sending numeous players on the play college volleyball, and a ranking in the top 5 for all-time wins in the state, Coach Bielicki would be used to all the hoopla. But year in and year out, Coach Bielicki treats each season as a special one and his players like family. This formula has paid off as Coach was named the Stuart News 2004 Volleyball Coach of the Year. Congratulations Coach.

Season Ends In Spanish River
Martin County knew it was going to be a tough match and they were right. Like two heavyweights slugging it out in the end rounds, Martin County and Spanish River traded points for 4 games Saturday in Regional Finals. In the end, Spanish River triumphed and will head back to states. This is the second straight season the Sharks have eliminated the Tigers in Regionals.

The Tigers came out in the first game looking like they would be making their first trip to Lakeland since 1999 winning 25-18. The home crowd at Spanish River was quieted, but the Sharks didn't give up. In the second game Spanish River showed why they deserved a shot at defending their title taking a 25-16 win. For the rest of the night it came down to team defense. Players on both the Tiger and Shark teams made incredible digs and saves keeping the crowd in a frenzy. Back and forth the struggle continued. Games three and four ended with close 25-23 and 26-24 Spanish River victories. The Tigers left the court spent physically and emotionally, their season over.

County finishes another 6A Top 10 season at 15 wins and 6 losses, reclaimed their District Championship, and says good-bye to seniors Molly Johnson, Kelly Hemberger, Kellye McCravy, Melissa Miller, Amnda Brodsky, and Sarah Beth Warren.

Next year's team will return starting top outside hitters Katie Beale and Patti Leonard as well as key reserves Allie Warren, Rachael Albright, Becky Zambo, Jami Perry, and Karen Randolph. There will be no rebuilding process, Tiger's coach Marty Bielicki will reload and everyone will expect the tradition to continue.

Who's Next?
2004 MJ
Going into tonight's match against Plant City Durant, the Martin County Tigers had not lost a single game in any match since dropping one to Bishop Kenny in Tampa on October 9th. They've swept their last six opponents including blowouts in the district finals against Royal Palm and the first round of regionals against Lake Worth.

Confidence on the Martin County sideline was high-            I repeat... confidence was high...

Durant came in 12-14 and left 12-15. It'll be a long ride back to Plant City. The Martin County hometown fans came out en mass and it turned into a feeding frenzy for the Tigers. The atmosphere inside the gym was supercharged and the Tigers were feeling it. Game one saw County run out to big lead behind the offensive firepower of Molly Johnson and never looked back winning 25-15. In game two, Plant City managed to steal a game from the Tigers 25-18. For the rest of the night, there was just too much Tiger offense. Clutch service aces from Sarah Beth Warren and big-time kills from outside hitters Patti Leonard, Katie Beale, and Amanda Brodsky had the Durant Cougars running around the gym chasing balls- keep up the hard work Durant, we can use some ball girls for States. The Tigers win 25-18 in the third and 25-14 to wrap up the match in the fourth and final game. Defensively the Tigers were led by specialists Melissa Miller and Kelly Hemberger and the blocks of Kellye McCravy.

Martin County brought their "A" game tonite and Durant came out wearing the wrong uniforms- anybody not wearing Martin County blue and gold was leaving the gym with their season over. Good news Durant, practice tomorrow has been cancelled!

Regional finals will be 2pm Saturday at Boca Raton's Spanish River.

The Ride Continues
2004 mmiller
In the first round of the regionals, Lake Worth came up to Martin County having heard about the tradition, the players, and the coach. They left knowing what it feels like to be on the receiving end of a blowout at the hands of Martin County. The Tigers sprinted out to huge leads in games one and two behind tremendous serving by Melissa Miller including a twelve point run in the first game to break open a 19-3 lead. Unable to make quality passes, Lake worth's offense was a non-factor. Miller finished with 21 service points and 5 aces.   It didn't matter if it was the Martin County starters or their back-ups, everyone had a hand in the action. In the second game juniors Jami Perry, Becky Zambo, and Karen Randolph provided the necessary spark. Game three saw lake Worth fight its way to a 8-6 lead before being outscored 19-3 as County closed out the match. Offensively the Tigers were paced by Patti Leonard with 11 kills and Molly Johnson with 7 kills and 5 blocks. Sarah Beth Warren dished out 28 assists on her father Frank Warren's 50th birthday and made many remarkable defensive saves to keep the Tigers on the winning end of several points. County was able to keep on their own offensive all night long and came away winners of a 25-5, 25-8, 25-11 rout in front of a big hometown crowd.

Martin County is riding a 6 match winning streak and head into Regional semi-finals at home next Tuesday November 2nd at 7pm. Opponent will be the Plant City Durant.

DISTRICT CHAMPIONS 2004
2004 mccravy
All season long ,there was something missing at Martin County High School's gymnasium. Hanging from the wall in the southeast corner are the District and Conference Championship banners listing past Martin County Championship teams. 2003 was missing from that list. Last night in Vero Beach, the Tigers removed the sting of that omission by reclaiming the District Championship trophy from Royal Palm Beach. You won't hear anyone say that Royal Palm has got Martin County's number anymore after a witnessing last night's match. By the time it was 17-3 Martin County in the second game, there was no doubt as to who would be leaving the gymnasium with a trophy. The final score was 25-17, 25-10, 25-16 and it really wasn't even that close. Although many of the Royal Palm players fought to keep their crown, there was just a little too much Martin County for them to stop. Much different than the last two 5 set losses to Royal Palm, Martin County played like a runaway freight train and Royal Palm was helpless to stop them.   Kellye McCravy led the way with 13 kills and four blocks. Patti Leonard added 11 kills and 16 digs, Molly Johnson had 10 kills and 10 digs to go with six blocks, and Melissa Miller had 14 service points, including four aces. Former Tiger and member of the 1994 Martin County State Championship team Heidi Erickson was on hand with her family to share in the night's victory and voiced the same sentiment as everyone else in attendance- "What a great victory!" Thanks to all those who came out in support of the team. We look forward to hosting everyone next Thursday in the first round of regionals 7pm at Martin County against Lake Worth HS.

"Attitude Reflects Leadership"
Varsity Captains 2004
If you've watched the movie "Remember the Titans", you may recall that quote. Last night at Vero Beach HS, our "Titans"- the Martin County Tigers showed everyone why they will be making their 17th consecutive trip to the district finals. Leading the way on the court were senior tri-captains Sarah Beth Warren, Molly Johnson, and Amanda Brodsky. Never flinching, the Tigers dispatched home town favorites Vero Beach 25-12, 25-22, 25-22 to advance to the finals. There they will get a chance to exact some revenge on defending district champs Royal Palm Beach. Few would argue that Royal's hold on that title is a precarious one after watching our Tigers last night. Sarah Beth had 35 assists, Molly Johnson had 7 kills and 16 digs, and Brodsky added 6 timely kills to compliment outside hitters Patti Leonard (16 kills) and Katie Beale (5 kills) and middle Kellye McCravy (7 kills). The play of last night's supporting cast of Tigers- seniors Kelly Hemberger and Melissa Miller, and freshman Rachael Albright showed they are ready and able to follow their captains to the championship game-Tonight at 7pm, Vero Beach HS. Come and watch that championship trophy return to its rightful home.

Districts to Begin Tomorrow
1988, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002.
Martin County ruled their district as well as their Conference in each of those years. In 2003 were runners-up to Royal Palm Beach, a team that has now beaten the Tigers in 4 straight matches. There a 13 players and 4 coaches wearing Martin County Blue and Gold who want to bring that championship back to Martin County for 2004. Tomorrow at Vero Beach, the Tigers will begin that quest by facing Vero Beach High in the District semifinals. Leading the way for the Tigers are returning All-Area performers Sarah Beth Warren, Molly Johnson, Kellye McCravy, and All-Stater Patti Leonard. These players and the rest of the Tigers will stop at nothing to regain that title. The winner will likely face Royal Palm on Thursday at 7pm. Come out and watch Wednesday at 7pm- Vero Beach High School, come and cheer on your Tigers.

JV Finishes 3-1 at West Palm Beach Tournament
Heading into their last weekend, the JV team had only played 4 matches going 4 and 1 including a forfeit victory. They equalled that record over the weekend down at Royal Palm Beach to finish the season at 7-2.
Starting Friday night against a Suncoast team that featured several strong servers/hitters, the Tigers got off to a miserable start losing the first game 11-25, their worst single game output of the season. Behind clutch serving/aces from Kristen Mayers and Emily Ryan, the Tigers clawed their way to a 25-23 game 2 victory. Despite falling behind 7-1 in the third game County put Suncoast away 15-12. In the second match of the evening, County overcame another slow start to sweep Wellington 25-23, 25-12.
Saturday morning saw the Tigers finish out their pool as the undefeated number one seed by beating W.T. Dwyer 25-20, 25-12. Unfortunately, Royal Palm closed out the Tigers' tournament and season by beating them 25-13, 25-23 in the first round of the championship bracket to send the team home in a third place tie with Jupiter.

Great season ladies- see you all at the Treasure Coast Juniors Club meeting next Tuesday at 7pm at the MCHS auditorium.

All three Martin County squads notched victories this evening against visiting Vero Beach. The freshman started out the night with a 25-8, 25-13 win. Next up were the Junior Varsity players who matched the feat winning 25-15, 20-25, 15-12. They finish their season this weekend with a tournament in Palm Beach. To finish out the night, the Varsity team ran roughshod over the visitors on their Senior Night 25-13, 25-10, 25-16 to push their record to 11-5. The win sealed up the 2nd place seed in the district playoffs which begin next Tuesday in Vero Beach. Congratulations to seniors Kelly Hemberger, Kellye McCravy, Molly Johnson, Melissa Miller, Sarah Beth Warren, and Amanda Brodsky.

MC 11th at Tampa Prep Tournament
The yearly trip to Tampa for the Annual Tampa Prep Tournament resulted in an 11th place finish in a tournament that featured four of the state's six No. 1-ranked teams, 11 top-10s and Nos. 1-2-3 in Class 5A. County headed into the tournament missing top middle Molly Johnson who was on a college recruting trip.
The Tigers began the tournament against the top team in Florida- Tampa Prep itself. After dominating Tampa Prep for the first three quarters of the first game, Martin County succumbed to the talented Tampa Prep squad (who finished first overall)20-25, 21-25.
Facing a team from Pelham, Alabama, in the second match of the night, the Tigers fell in three- 25-23, 9-25, 13-15.
The last match of the night provided County with the first win of the tournament, beating Durant 23-25, 25-23, 16-14. The win was especially satisfying due to the rabidity of the Durant fans and the fact that Durant Beat MC in the state Championship finals in 1999.
Day two started off with a tight 4 game loss to a Bishop Kenny team that featured a 6 foot 6 middle hitter, 25-22, 27-29, 21-25, 23-25 and finished with a three game sweep victory against Tallassee Leon 25-22, 25-15, 25-18.
Outside hitter Patti Leonard led the Tigers with 50 kills in the five matches. Outside hitter Katie Beale added 29 kills, and setter Sarah Beth Warren had 104 assists. Kelly Hemberger contributed 33 digs. County's overall record stands now at 8 and 5.
