DENNY ALTIMORE (1947-2014)

DENNY ALTIMORE – “D.A.,” 66, died Tuesday Feb. 4, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Feb. 22, 1947, in Johnstown, son of Alfred and Helen (Juretic) Altimore. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Judith (Liptak) Altimore; and brother, Kevin Altimore. Survived by longtime girlfriend, Maryann Galluci; mother-in-law, Mary Liptak; sons, Michael N., and partner, Natalie Meyers; and Ryan V., and partner, Aimee Geisel; several grandchildren, whom he considered his own, Brady, Kelsi, Gianna, Angelo, Santino, Michael and Gavin; sister, Colleen, and husband, Craig Pugh; brother, Alfred G.; niece, Tiffany, and her son, Nathan; and nephew, Adam, and wife, Cara. Also survived by his furry best friend and beagle, Brady. A U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in the Vietnam War. Denny was a true family man and loved his family and friends very much. He also loved baseball. He was the owner of the Johnstown Grays of the AAABA League, from 1999 to 2007. He continued to stay involved with the league, recently serving as the commissioner. He was the head coach of Bishop McCort baseball team from 2003 to 2010, and led the team to the district championship in 2009. He also became the “voice” of Bishop McCort football team on radio and continued for many years, winning multiple awards for his work. A 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 467, who will recite the rosary at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, where funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, the Franciscan Friars, OFM, Conv. Committal, St. Francis Church Cemetery. Friends received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., Broad Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family for charitable donations made at a later time. Condolences can be sent to the family at ozogfh.com.
