The Magic strives to provide our athletes the opportunity to develop confidence, poise, self control, self esteem and discipline. The Magic engages young ladies from ages 10-19, and young gentlemen from ages 10-16 to play in competitive games to improve their skills and prepare for upcoming middle school, high school and collegiate play. We build our teams to be competitive against regional, state and nationally competitive teams.
Our mission is to encourage young ladies and gentlemen to strive for excellence in their endeavors as athletes. To provide financial and educational assistance and support to athletes. To stimulate community interest and support for girls and boys basketball. To encourage personal growth, team play and social enjoyment among participants.
Our 14-18 year olds play in the fall and our 10-13 year olds play in the winter. There maybe additional summer tournaments if a team and coach decide to continue playing.

2010 Magic Teams Selected
Thank you to all the young ladies who tried out for the Magic teams – it was the largest turn out ever and it was a very difficult decision. For those ladies not selected there will be an opportunity to participate in the Magic Developmental program through the YMCA of Marquette County. We encourage you to participate in this program and continue to develop your basketball skills. The following ladies have been selected to participate on the 2010 Magic teams.
10U Team – Coach Jay Peterson
Sophie Bartlett, Hannah Bulinski, Kayley Elmblad, Kia Evans, Danielle Field, Bianca Flath, Kaylie Godfrey, Ellie Hicks, Annie Ludwig, Izabelle Peterson, Scotti Peterson and Ashlyn Steer. The 10U will have a Parents meeting on Tuesday, November 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the YMCA of Marquette County’s gym. Regular practices for this team will be Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at the YMCA.
11U Team – Coaches Amanda Erspamer-Barry and Dennis Helt
Destiny Bullard, Cassidy Calderwood, Jessica Ely, Amber Huebner, Danyelle Helt, Brenna Leafers, Terese Ledy, Kayce Mullet, Aubrey Reynolds-Erspamer, McKayla Rivard, and Lindsey Rudden. The 11U will have a Parents meeting on Tuesday, November 17th at 6:30 p.m. at the Baraga Gym located in Marquette City Hall – please use West Spring Street Entrance. Regular practices for this team will be Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at the Baraga Gym.
12U Team – Coaches Cory Blight and Lisa Coombs-Gerou
Mikayla Blight, Casey Durand, Courtney Finkbinder, Brooke Houle, Lizzie Kurin, Hailey Lajeuesse, Jessica Langsford, Emilee LaMora, Hannah Milkie, Katie Pryor and Martha Storm. The 12U will have a Parents meeting on Monday, November 16th at 6:00 p.m. at NMU - PEIF practice gyms. Regular practices for this team will be Monday and Wednesday from 6:00 – 7:30 at NMU – PEIF practice gym.
13U Team – Coaches Mark McGovern and Theresa Viitila
Katie Aho, Kaylee Arnsparger, Destiny Beckwith, Vanessa Freberg, Alex Hillier, Shayla Huebner, Courtney McGovern, Jaime Olson, Molly Swajanen, Hunter Viitila and Amanda Washnock. The 13U will have a Parents meeting on Wednesday, November 18th at 6:00 p.m. at NMU – PEIF practice gym. Regular practices for this team will be Monday and Wednesday from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at NMU – PEIF practice gym.
12U/13U Developmental Team – Coaches Melissa LaPointe, Erin Powers, Kelly Rietveld and Casey Luke
Courtney Fries, Lindsay Beaudry, Laura LeJeunesse, Mikayla Lehtomaki, Morgan Ledbetter, Caroline Jones, Hannah Johnson, Senia Liimatta, Kira Massie, Kristina Misegan, Taylor Smith, Amber Beaudry and Hannah Livingston. The 12U/13U Developmental Team will be having a Parents meeting on Monday, November 16th at the YMCA gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. Practice times will be determined at the parents meeting.

The Marquette Magic Shooters Classic Tournament is set for February 19-21, 2010 at Northern Michigan University PEIF. Boys and Girls 10U - 13U (4th through 8th grade) are invited to participate. Tournment will include Pool Play and tournament. Watch this site for registration packets. All certified officials.
Thursday, November 5
The Magic tryouts are set for the 10U, 11U, 12U and 13U teams. Tryouts for the 12U team will take place on Monday, November 9, 2009 at 6:15 p.m. - 7:15 p.m. at NMU - Practice Gym 1. Tryouts for the 13U will also take place on Monday, November 9, 2009 at the YMCA of Marquette County gym from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. The tryouts for the 10U & 11U teams will be at the City of Marquette's Baraga Gym on Tuesday, November 10, 2009. The 10U team will be from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. and the 11U will be from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m.
There is a non-refundable $35.00 fee for tryouts. Parents please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to tryouts to complete necessary paperwork. If you are a new player to Magic a copy of your birth certificate is required. Please do not bring originals, as we need to retain a copy on file.

The Marquette Magic in partnership with the YMCA of Marquette County will be offering a Girls Basketball Clinic for girls in 4th, 5th and 6th grades. The clinic will begin Monday, October 12 and run six weeks. The dates of the clinic are October 12, 19, 26 and November 2, 9 and 16. The six week clinic will be held at NMU's PEIF practice gyms from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. each night. The cost for the Clinic is $35.00. Girls interested in participating should register at the YMCA of Marquette County in person, on line at ymcamqt.org or at the PEIF on Monday, October 12th. Ms. Theresa Viitila is the head coach for the clinic. If you have any questions about the clinic please call Lisa Coombs-Gerou at 906-227-9622.
