Awards Banquet
Hello to all swim team families!

The annual awards banquet will be held this Sunday, July 26, at the  Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department from 6-8 pm

We will need help setting up starting at 4:00pm and help cleaning up until 9 pm.  Please help get the team's $$$ deposit back for the hall rental by helping out.

Pot luck -- each family should bring a dish to share (salad, side dish, or entree) for at least 12 people (no chips please) and serving utensils...(Please label your dishes and utensils with your name...I get more free serving items this way...)  We have 150 kids (!) and lots of family members as well.  Lemonade, iced tea, punch, coffee, water, and cake will be provided. (Betty A. - You made a very beautiful and delicious cake the past two years...Are you interested in making it again this year?  If not, I will be glad to order one from Sam's Club as we've done in previous years before you started making your wonderful homemade cakes...Please let me know by Thursday-" scoutmama53@yahoo.com")

Directions from MSR to Banquet:  Take 301 North.  Go South on Route 4 / Pennsylvania Avenue to Dunkirk.  You will pass a big Safeway on the right.  Take the next RIGHT onto WARD RD.  The Dunkirk Fire Dept is behind the Safeway on the left.  Use back entrance on the left hand side of the firehouse in the basement.

Kids tend to "dress up" for the banquet each year...not necessary, but they seem to enjoy it!

Any questions?  Please let me know! (301)627-3048 or cell (301)602-5155
Thanks for your participation!

An email with all the details about the team’s banquet will be coming out soon.  The Annual Awards Banquet is scheduled for Sunday, July 26 from 6-8pm at the DUNKIRK VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT, not North Beach.  (We had to change the venue this year.)   J

Last few weeks

I’ve been crazy busy at work getting ready to leave for a new job, so I’m sorry I haven’t been as communicative as usual.   After July 15, please only email me at home - klgray88@verizon.net

Coach Matt needs to know no later than Wednesay if your swimmer will not be at the July 18 home meet.   We have a very good shot at winning this meet, but only if Matt knows who will not be there and can plan for it.  We've had numerous swimmers as no shows the last three meets, and you've seen how close they meets have been.  He can only plan if you communicate with him!  Please email him at mattcribbs@aol.com.  Do it now!

We need lots of help setting up and breaking down the pool.  The Wengers are not going to be in town to set up the night beforehand.   Please step up and help.

Divisional Meet Entries -- All swimmers must be available for the Divisional Meet as this is the most important meet for the team during the season!  The two fastest swimmers in each event participate in the Divisional Meet, competing as a team against swimmers from all other teams in the division.  Each team has two swimmers per event, plus alternates.  Usually, the division championship is at stake, as well as the opportunity to qualify for the All-Star Meet.  *Coaches MUST BE INFORMED if you will not be available to swim at the Divisional meet on July 25 no later than Friday, July 10 (TWO WEEKS’ NOTICE).  THIS NOTICE IS REQUIRED FOR EVERY SINGLE SWIMMER ON THE TEAM – DO NOT ASSUME THAT YOUR CHILD IS NOT ONE OF THE TWO FASTEST SWIMMERS IN ANY OF HIS/HER EVENTS!

Coach Matt will do entries for the Divisional meet after we get results from this Saturday's meet, and I will be attending a meeting with all the other teams on Sunday afternoon.

We will need officials for the Divisional meet based on the kids that are entered.  We'll definitely need at least four timers and one each of Stroke & Turn, Clerk of Course, Scorer, Ribbon Writer, and Team Rep.  Email me if you would like to volunteer for these jobs.

The other deck jobs are filled by each team putting up a name of a volunteer and the others teams voting on it, so it's not something I can arrange ahead of time, but if you've done another job and would like to do it at Divisionals (Sweep Judge, Referee, Starter, Head Judge, Head Timer), let me know and I will put your name in for the other teams to approve.  We try to spread those jobs evenly across the teams, so I can't tell you if you'll be volunteered or not until after the meeting concludes.

I will send  try to get an email out on Monday regarding the team's entries and which parents have been volunteered for a job.

Guppy Meet Reminder
GUPPY MEET -- Sunday, July 12 at 8:00am.  Smallwood holds their annual meet for 10 & unders in Waldorf.  This is an invitational meet, so the team is not going as a group -- only the parents who pay and register their children will be attending.  One of our coaches will accompany the kids (not sure who yet).
All children would swim against their own age group only (7 year olds against 7 year olds).  All events are only one length, and the kids can choose which strokes they want to swim.  The entry fee is $10 for three events.  Every child earns large rosette ribbons that go around their necks.  The kids are always proud of their accomplishments and you'll have a hard time getting them to take the ribbons off!
Alison Shenot will be at evening practices this week and will also try to be at most morning practices as well.  She will collect and submit our team's guppy meet orders.  The DEADLINE for entries and payment is Saturday, July 4.  Entry forms are attached and she will have forms with her at practice so that you can enter your kids.  Checks should be made payable to "Marlton Swim Team" and we will submit one check for the entire team's entries to Smallwood.
Please email her with any questions at jugbaystable@verizon.net.  If you have a 10 & Under, this is a GREAT meet!

Home Meet notes
A few additional notes regarding tomorrow morning's meet:
Suits and Caps -- If you've ordered them, Ruth Blair has been trying to find you.  She's been bringing a wagon to all the practices and last week's meet, but she still has a large number of suits and caps to distribute.  Please find her and pick up what you've ordered!
Lane Ropes - I finally received last night the final parts we need to fix some of the lane ropes, but at this late hour it will probably have to wait until after our meet tomorrow.  I will leave the parts in the girls' room at the pool for anyone who'd like to take a crack at fixing them.  Our lane reel is also breaking down and falling apart.  Would anyone be willing to take a look at it and see if it can be salvaged?  Those things cost $1,000.
Parking -- Please park as tightly as possible in our parking lot Saturday morning.  Adelphi folks are coming from a long way and will need to be able to fit.  If you have to park in the neighborhood, please be courteous to the neighbors of the pool and don't block anyone's mailbox or driveway, especially the two houses that feed our parking lot -- they WILL call the police and ask you to move.  Please do not park past the yellow line in the circle AT ANY TIME -- this means during practice, during meets -- any time.
Oh, and Matt has now cleared out his aol email account from the mountains of spam.  He is responding to emails at that address -- mattcribbs@aol.com

Fun Meet and Second HOME Meet / Team Pictures
My apologies for the length of this email, but there is a lot of information every family needs to know about!  Please read everything!

MSR @ WA -- We lost our first meet, 299-263.  Considering that West Arundel won the C Division last year, Marlton did relatively well.  Matt thought we would lose by 100 points or so, but we only lost by 36.  Due to the weather, the meet went much longer than expected.  We normally finish at about noon, so Saturday's weather was extremely unusual.  Any of the teams that didn't finish their meets have to reschedule and finish, so we just had to stick it out to avoid driving back up to West Arundel a second time.
Coach Matt wants to remind everyone to let him know if you have to leave a meet early with your swimmer.  We had enough 8 & unders to field three relays until he realized that half of the 8 & unders had left the meet early, so we were only able to field one relay.  Two 8 & unders that did stay to swim didn't get that opportunity because we didn't have enough swimmers.  I know Saturday was an extreme circumstance and parents were tired and kids were cranky, but please don't leave the meet early unless you confirm that your swimmers are not part of a relay.  And please don't have your kids harass Matt about whether they're in a relay until after the IMs.  We normally have a 10-15 minute break between IMs and Relays where Matt finalizes his relay lineups and that's when he'll tell the kids if they're swimming in a relay or not.
Results are posted on www.princemont.org website under Schedule/Results.  Here is a link to full results:
http://www.princemont.org/2009/week1/MSR@WA.htm.  As you'll see on the results page, West Arundel is a 25 yard pool.  Marlton is 25 meters long, so this coming Saturday, the kids might be surprised that their times are slower than their first week.  Please assure them that our pool is just longer!  Most of the pools we swim in will be 25 meters, not yards.

Fun Meet with Brandywine at Marlton -- Wednesday, June 24 from 7-9pm (practice is cancelled Wed).  This is our 8th annual FUN MEET with Brandywine and we are hosting this year.  This is a swim team event where all of the children swim silly relays against the Blue Waves for fun and laughs.  After the relays, the two teams and their families enjoy ice cream sundaes and relax and swim and visit together.
We ask that every participating swimmer bring at least a half gallon (or more) of ice cream (vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry) or your favorite toppings (chocolate syrup, butterscotch, caramel, crushed oreos, jimmies, bananas, nuts, cherries, whipped cream, etc.). Donations of plastic spoons, styrofoam bowls, and paper towels would also be appreciated.   Here's the lineup of events:
            Event 1: Coaches Race
Event 2: Innertube Relay (all ages)
Event 3: Doggie Paddle Relay (10 & unders)
            Event 4: Sweatshirt Relay (11 & olders)
            Event 5: Ice Cream Sundaes
We will need Parents to bring innertubes, sweatshirts and sweatpants for use in the relays.  Please mark your items so you get them back at the end of the meet.
We will also need a lot of help organizing the food and setting up a line where the kids can make ice cream sundaes.  It works best when parents are serving so the little guys don't dump an entire jar of jimmies all over the ground, etc.

AR @ MSR - Meet against Adelphi Recreation at home on Saturday, June 27.  Again, and as always, Matt needs to know if your swimmer will not be attending no later than Wednesday night.  We had some no shows this past Saturday, which makes the meets go slower when the heats have to be reseeded to avoid empty lanes.  I cannot stress this enough!!!

The kids should be at the pool at 7:30am to be ready to get in for warmups.  Since this is our first home meet, we'd like as many parents as possible to be there early to help set up the pool deck as early as 6:45-7:00am.  Please bring chairs and shade tents.  Our team area is along the wall on the long side of the pool and parents should set up chairs and tents in the grass -- not on the deck.  The deck is for officials and coaches only.

Team Pictures will be done as soon as the meet is finished.  We will do a full team picture first in the deep end of the pool, then those wishing for individual pictures need to line up and be organized.  We need parents to help organize the kids and get them lined up and listening to the photographer.  The photographer has another photo shoot after our team pictures, so we need to get her in and out quickly!  This will be a challenge with 150 kids on the team!  Order forms attached -- please have the forms filled out and payment ready for her.  Even if you do not plan on purchasing team or individual pictures, we'd like ALL of the swimmers to stay and get photographed for the team photo.

GUPPY MEET -- Sunday, July 12 at 8:00am.  Smallwood holds their annual 10 & under meet in a few weeks in Waldorf.

First Meet
It's hard to believe our first meet is this weekend!
Prince-Mont League Handbooks are on the table just outside the girls' room at the pool.  Please only take your family's copy.  Most of this information is also on the league website - www.princemont.org
Wednesday Deadline for Each Week -- Coach Matt must know by Wednesday evening if your child will not be attending Saturday's meet each week we have a meet.  If you entered the meets your child won't be attending on the online registration form, we have that information already.  Matt must seed the meet electronically and we have to send our lineup to the opposing team by Thursday.  If kids who are entered in the meet don't show up, we can only substitute another swimmer that isn't already swimming their maximum number of events (three individual + one relay or two individual + two relays).  If we have an available substitute, Matt must inform the referee and the opposing coach by 8:00 am before the meet starts at 8:30 am.  So if kids don't show up and Matt didn't know they weren't coming beforehand, we have empty lanes and thus lost points for the team.  Please, please don't let this happen!

On that same note, if your children are not at practice the entire week (camp, vacation) but they will be back and can swim on Saturday, let Matt know that as well.  If he doesn't see them all week and doesn't know where they've been, he may assume they will not be back for Saturday morning unless he has a note from you telling him otherwise.  Don't show up and wonder why your kids aren't entered in the meet if you haven't communicated your plans.  Notes in writing work best for all of these things -- Matt cannot keep 150 kids and their vacation/camp schedules straight without something in writing from you.  No one can.  :)
Matt is not checking his aol.com email address anymore because it's just too jammed with spam.  Handwritten notes work best for now.
Suits - If you ordered a team suit, they are being picked up from SwimPro this week.  Please see Ruth Blair during practice on Thurs evening or Friday morning.  If you miss her during practice, she should have them on Saturday morning before the meet.  If you haven't received your child's suit by Saturday morning, please make sure they bring another suit with them to the meet just in case.
MSR @ WA -- Saturday, June 20.  We need to be at West Arundel and ready to warmup by 7:45am.  While the kids are warming up, parents will be called upon to volunteer to work at the meet.  Please review your team handbooks and league handbooks for all the jobs that are required to be filled and be prepared to step up and help.  The meet will start at 8:30am.  We will most likely be done between noon and 1pm if everything goes as planned.
Directions to all the pools in the league are in your league handbook and on the www.princemont.org website
Meets - For all meets, you might want to bring your own chairs because you never know if there will be any available.  You also might want to bring a shade tent, hats, or umbrellas.  Some parents routinely bring large pop-up shade tents for the kids to hang out under.  If you or family members have issues with being in the sun, plan to bring shade because not all of our opponents have shady areas available to us.
The ultimate goal for the meets is that each swimmer can focus on swimming their best and have fun.  They should be blissfully unaware of all the work that the parents are doing to make the meets run smoothly.  Thanks in advance for all your help to get us there.
Board of Directors -- Positions that still need to be filled:
                Chairperson
                Vice Chairperson
                Secretary
                Tresurer
League Representative - represent the team at the League meetings

Fundraising - set up Swim Marathon and awards - needs to be scheduled and arranged soon for a night in July
Awards Banquet - order plaques for kids at end of season banquet; arrange banquet hall; arrange potluck dinner

Time Trials on Saturday
Time Trials -- Saturday, June 13 --
11 & older swimmers from 8:00-10:00 am
10 & under swimmers from 10:00-11:00 am
Each swimmer will swim as many events as they can in the same order that they would take place in a regular meet, so the kids will be able to rest in between their events.  We will need parents to be timers (at least two per lane with one writing the times down).  Each lane will have a chart with the swimmer's names and the timers can write the times on the chart.  We will enter the times into the team's computer system later.  We would like to get times for as many swimmers as possible, especially the new swimmers, but this is something you should not cancel any other plans you might have to attend.
We will also need some help setting up the pool -- putting in lane ropes and flags, etc.  So please come 15-30 minutes early if you can help.
Lane Ropes -- The replacement parts are at the pool -- I just need some parents to pick a rope and start restringing.
League Handbooks - will be available in a box at the front desk of the pool next to the bulletin board.  These handbooks have all of the League's rules, records, directions to each pool, and results from the prior year's Divisionals and All-Stars.  One per family please
Board of Directors -- Positions that still need to be filled:
                Chairperson
                Vice Chairperson
                Secretary
                Tresurer
League Representative - represent the team at the League meetings
Meet Manager - maintain and set up equipment for hosting meets (tables, chairs, lane ropes, watches, etc.); recruit volunteers to sign up for jobs on site at meets -- Gary & Kathy Wenger (2009 only)
Snack Bar - DIRE NEED THIS YEAR!!!  Need a volunteer now!!! We need someone to organize, purchase food and drinks, and set up the team's snack bar for each home meet (June 27, July 4, and July 18).  We're getting down to the wire and need someone to step forward soon.  I have seed money from the snack bar donations, so you wouldn't have to purchase anything out of pocket to get started
Data Manager - uses software to run swim meets on the deck; transmits data to league - Chuck Dohrman (2009 only) - will need a volunteer to work with Chuck this year!  Chuck Dohrman is winding down as the team's Data Manager as well.  We need someone to learn how to run Hy-Tek on the deck with him this summer!  This job involves working with Coach Matt to exchange our team's lineup on Thursday evenings before each Saturday meet.  For home meets, the job also involves printing out timer sheets before the meet and organizing all the paperwork we need to run a successful meet.  Chuck has done this job for many years.  We need someone with a laptop that can be used during the meets.  The Hy-Tek program is very easy and the League provides training, as well as handouts on how to handle every situation during a meet.
Fundraising - set up Swim Marathon and awards - needs to be scheduled and arranged soon for a night in July
Awards Banquet - order plaques for kids at end of season banquet; arrange banquet hall; arrange potluck dinner
Filled Positions - thank you for volunteering!
                Registration/Webmaster - Diana Lawless
                Ribbon Coordinator - Olga Schwartz
                T-Shirts - Kandia Spain
Guppy Meet Entries - Allison Shenot
Again, we will have a parent meeting on Wednesday, June 17 at 6:30pm under the baby pool awning to get these positions filled.  The success of the team depends on parents taking over these duties.  Thanks.
:) Laurie Gray

Get Ready for Summer!
Hi Marlton Families!
With the warmer weather, I hope your thoughts are turning to how great our summer swim season is going to be!
Registration -- I am currently working out the details of a new online registration system that I expect will be up and running by mid-April.  I will send out an email to all the parents when this is ready to go.  This system will make the administrative side of the team's management easier to pass on to a new swim team board of parents (more to follow on that later).  Registration fees for the 2009 season will increase $5 per swimmer to help offset this cost as follows*:
Shareholders of the Marlton Pool -- $65 first child, $55 second child, and $45 third and subsequent children
Swim Team Only members -- $145 first child, $125 second child, $105 third and subsequent children
*We also request a $10 donation to the snack bar from each family
League Meetings -- There are three Prince-Mont League meetings each year before the season (one each in March/April, May, and June).  I need someone to step forward and become the League Representative for the team so we can overlap this season and go to the meetings together.  The first meeting is scheduled for Saturday, March 28 at 9:00am near College Park.  Two parents would actually be ideal and could tag team, since the League requires a League Rep and a First Alternate League Rep.  Let me know if you're interested, and I can talk to you about what is involved in representing the team.
League Seeding -- Based on our D Division Championship last summer, we have been (preliminary) moved up to compete in the C Division this summer!  Check out www.princemont.org for details.  We will not have any "out of division" meets this year -- we have moved up to a division where each one of our dual meets counts toward our record.  The final schedule will not come out until the May meeting regarding which meets will be home vs. away, but we will be competing against West Arundel Swim Team (Laurel), Cheverly Swim and Racquet Club, Adelphi Recreation Inc., New Carrollton Recreation Inc. and Northridge Swim Team (Bowie).
Coaches -- Matt Cribbs will be returning, although he has a "real" job now and will not be able to be at every single practice as he has in the past.  Erin Israel is getting married on July 4, so she will be in wedding mode most of this summer.  She may be able to help a little in the first few weeks of practice while we ramp up and get new kids up to speed.  Mike Gray is planning on returning as well.  Carrie Bonalewicz will join the coaching staff this year.  She is a foreign language teacher and Assistant Swim Coach at Northern High School.  Welcome, Carrie!
Important Dates --
Time Trials -- Saturday, June 13
PMSL Officials Training -- first or second Saturday in June - TBA
Dual Meets -- every Saturday morning from June 20-July 18
Divisionals -- Saturday, July 25
Awards Banquet -- Sunday, July 26 (evening)
All-Stars -- Saturday, August 1
Summer Jobs for Teens -- We need a few older swimmers to help assist with the coaching of younger swimmers at the 10 & under practices.  If your teen would be interested, please let me know.
In addition, the Marlton Pool is looking for swim lesson instructors.  Good pay, flexible hours and they can work around your schedule.  If your teen would be interested, please call Ms. Krenik at 410-535-9375 or send an email to marltonpool@hotmail.com
Stay Tuned for more Updates!  Also posted on www.eteamz.com/marltonswimteam

Marlton Parents,
I cannot believe our swim season will start in 4 short weeks
Registration -- Online registration is up!  Go to the team's website at www.eteamz.com/marltonswimteam.  There's an online registration button at the bottom of the home page, as well as a separate "2009 Registration" page you can go to.  Both go to the same link.  Create your user name and password and enter all the information regarding your swimmers.  Hopefully, everything is self-explanatory once you get started.  If you have bugs or issues come up during registration, please email me at klgray88@verizon.net and let me know.
Practices -- Practice starts Tuesday evening, May 26 @ 6-7pm for 10 & unders and 7-8pm for 11 & olders.  Practice will be each weeknight at these times until school lets out for PG County on Thursday, June 18.  Starting Friday, June 19, we will start our morning/evening practices.  The times for those practices will be worked out soon with our coaches.
Team Suits -- If you know your child will need a team suit, please purchase it through the online registration system and we will get their size the first two weeks of practice.  Boys jammers are $30; boys briefs (Speedo-style) are $25; and girls suits are $40.  Team suits are not mandatory.  Any one piece for girls or jammer-type or Speedo-style suit for boys would be fine (no baggy board shorts for boys).  Once we place the order with the manufacturer, we cannot give any refunds.
Meets -- Our meet schedule has been confirmed and is now posted on our website.  Click the "Meets" link on the left-hand side.
That's all I can think of for now, but I'm sure there will be more news in the coming weeks.
Go Marlins!

One week to go!
Hi Marlton Parents,
Online Registration - We've had one snafu with a credit card not being accepted, but otherwise online registration has been smooth.  Please register online -- www.eteamz.com/marltonswimteam -- hand-written registration forms will not be used this year.
For new families on the fence about joining just yet, please wait until your swimmer gets a few days of practice under their belts before registering.  Just let the coaches know you're trying us out.  If you'd like feedback from the coaches before joining, please see Rule 7 below.
Practices:
The first week of practice will be chaotic, but fun!  I will normally be at practice each evening and will come to the pool straight from work in DC arriving between 6:00-6:30pm.  I can help answer parent questions while the kids are swimming and the coaches are busy.
Evening practices start on Tuesday, May 26 as follows:

TUES., MAY 26 – THURS., JUNE 18

Monday through Friday (evenings only until PG County schools get out)
6:00 - 7:00 p.m. - 10 and Under
7:00 - 8:00 p.m. - 11 and Up
I have posted "rules for practices" on the website, but I'll repeat them here:
Rules for Practice:

1.         It is important for all swimmers to be ON TIME when coming to practice.  This means being dressed and ready to swim ON TIME.  Swimmers arriving late to practice are disruptive to the coaches and the other swimmers.  Please be ON TIME.

2.         Practices are for swimmers only; please do not leave siblings and friends unattended during this time.

3.         Parents of children 8 and under should not leave the practice area until you see that your child is in the pool and swimming.

4.         Coaches are unable to watch non-swimming children.  Please remember to pick your children up immediately after the scheduled practice.  All children must leave the pool area after morning practice so that the pool staff may properly prepare for the pool’s opening.  Children who are not picked up on time will be waiting for pick up in front of the pool.  Coaches will not be responsible for children during this time.

5.         All swimmers must attend at least 2 practices per week in order to swim in the following A meet that week.  All swimmers must swim in at least 1 of the 5 “A” meets to be eligible to receive any team awards.  Exceptions may be made for camps or vacations with written notice to the coach.

6.         Inclement Weather -- We will continue to have practice if it is just raining and not thundering or lightening (the kids get wet anyway).  Health Dept. regulations require that the pool close if we hear thunder and cannot open until 30 minutes after the storm clears.  If you are not sure what the weather is like at the pool and want to check before getting on the road, you can try to the call the pool's phone at (301) 627-9614; however, if the pool is really busy and the guards are on the deck, it might be hard to get an answer.  There's really no way for us to reach 80+ kids/parents if there is a cancellation at the last minute, so please use your best judgment in all cases.

7.        Talking with the Coaches -- If you have swimming or coaching-related questions, please feel free to talk with any of the coaches, but only before or after practice and not while the kids are in the water doing their workout.  If your child tells you he/she wants to change lanes, just let the coaches know – it will take them a while to learn all the swimmer’s faces and ability levels, so if your child is not being challenged enough or having trouble keeping up, please say something to them and they will correct it and get them in the right lane.  We want this to be a positive, learning experience for all of them!

* * * * *
Suits, Goggles, and Caps -- Try-on suits for size should be available the first two weeks of practice.  If you've purchased a suit, we will need to size you before the team's order is placed June 4.  Ruth Blair will be handling the sizing of the suits and will also have goggles available for purchase.  Any caps that were purchased online will be available for pickup as well.
Morning Practice Time Change -- IMPORTANT!!!  To help Coach Matt keep his real job, a change to the morning practices must be made.  10 & Under practices will be an hour earlier and will overlap the 11 & Older practices (see below).  Since we have less kids at the morning practices, we hope this will not inconvenience a lot of the 10 & Under parents.  This may even be better for those families with kids in both age groups!  We also won't conflict with the pool's swim lessons which start at 9:10am.  Thanks for your understanding.
FRI, JUNE 19 - FRI., JULY 17
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday mornings
[no Wednesday morning]
7:30 - 9:00 a.m. - 11 and Up
8:00 - 9:00 a.m. - 10 and Under
And
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings
6:00 - 7:00 p.m. - 10 and Under
7:00 - 8:00 p.m. - 11 and Up*
*may extend to 8:30 p.m.
Job for Dads During Practice -- I purchased several replacement parts for our aging competitive lane lines.  I will need some volunteers to restring as many ropes as we can during evening practices before our fun meet on June 24.  I'm told it's a relatively easy process - just time consuming.  Any help would be appreciated and will avoid the team shelling out $2,800 for new lane lines.

A few more things...

A few more things came up I need to notify parents about:

Prince-Mont Officials’ Clinic PMSL set the date for Saturday, June 6 at 5:00pm at the University of Maryland Armory (flyer attached).  All Deck Officials (New and Experienced), Data Managers, Meet Managers, Timers, Coaches, etc. are encouraged to attend.  Anyone wishing to be a Stroke & Turn, Starter, or Referee MUST attend this training – the team needs more of these positions to continue to succeed!  Since my husband and I will not be working on the deck next year, this is an urgent need this year!  Please volunteer.

Team T-shirts – Kandia Spain has again volunteered to create and sell a team T-shirt for swimmers and parents (not mandatory, but fun!).  The T-shirt will be royal blue with white printing.  On the front will be “Marlton Swim Team” and a swimming logo.   On the back will be “What goes around comes around, just like a flip turn.”

Sizes will run from YS to XXXL.

Youth S- L         $9.00

Adult:    10.00 (S-XL)

            12.00 (2XL)

            13.00 (3XL)

Kandy will take orders and payment next week at the pool.Checks can be made out to “Marlton Swim Team.”

Parent Handbook (attached) – This covers a LOT of information about practices, meets, social events, etc.  For new parents, this is a great resource.  PLEASE read it all!  This handbook answers a lot of questions, especially for families who have never swum on a competitive team before.  I will have about 25 printed copies with me during the first week of practice, but it will save the team money if you can use the electronic copy instead.  The Handbook is also posted on the team’s website under “Handouts.”  I’ll see which parents actually read this based on the questions I’m asked next week!

Have a great holiday weekend!

Update
PMSL Officials Clinic - Flyer attached for this Saturday's training in College Park at 5pm.  Who is planning on going?  I've only heard from one parent.  We can try to carpool if you let me know you're going.  I just found out that the League is making this Officials' Training MANDATORY for any Deck Officials (unless they are US Swimming certified).  We need more parents to get certified for Stroke & Turn, Starter, and Referee.
Online Registration -- Registration will close on June 13, 2009.  If you plan to register your child, you must do so before June 13.  We need to close out registration a week before our first meet to ensure all the swimmer data is in our system.  We have 96 kids registered so far, but we've also seen a lot of returning swimmers at practice that haven't registered yet.
Team Suits -- If you purchased a team swim suit, Ruth Blair needs to know what size to order.  She plans to be at practice each night this week sitting at one of the two white tables in front of the pavilion.  Swim suit orders will close on June 5, 2009.  Team suits will not be available for purchase after June 5 thru the online registration system.  Ruth's email is rkblair@comcast.net, but do not email her sizes unless you are 100% positive about the size.  There are no refunds or exchanges once the order is placed!
Team T-Shirts -- If you'd like to place an order and haven't caught up with Kandy or Dave Spain to order t-shirts, please send Kandy an email at spainnhs@yahoo.com.  Sizes again are Youth S-L for $9; Adult S-XL for $10; Adult 2XL for $12; and Adult 3XL for $13.  Checks can be made out to "Marlton Swim Team," and she'll catch up with you next week.
Practice CHANGE - Since PG County schools get out so late, Coach Matt has asked that we start morning practices a week earlier than planned.  He does not want to start morning practices the day before our first meet!  So... we are going to have Mon-Fri evening practices only until next Friday, June 12.  On Monday, June 15, we'll start the 4 morning and 3 evening practice times.  Again, to see improvement in your child's ability from week to week, you should try to make 3 practices/week, but practices are not mandatory.  You do not have to bring your child to 7 practices per week -- those times are there for your convenience.  I've attached a calendar since I know it's just getting too confusing.
TUES., MAY 26 – FRI., JUNE 12Monday through Friday 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. - 10 and Under7:00 - 8:00 p.m. - 11 and Up MON., JUNE 15 - FRI., JULY 17Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday mornings [no Wednesday morning]7:30 - 9:00 a.m. - 11 and Up8:00 - 9:00 a.m. - 10 and Under And Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings6:00 - 7:00 p.m. - 10 and Under7:00 - 8:00 p.m. - 11 and Up**may extend to 8:30 p.m.
