JUNE 1 - The 35+ A's were looking to end a two-game skid and use the Memorial Day break to get a bit healthier. Back in the line-up were Brian Bartlett and Mike Cubbage, but the A's were still without the services of Craig Cirillo (finger), Billy McHugh (Bahamas) and Joe Bowyer (Sinus infection . . er hangover).
The A's sent Adrian Gonzalez to the hill opposed by fellow lefty Lou Marshall of the Phillies. The A's couldn't score in the top of the first and the Phillies would get a run on a single, a stolen base and an infield error. 1-0 Phils after 1. Neither team scored in the 2nd and the A's would tie it in the 3rd. Lou Pell led off with a walk, George Rogers sacrifice bunted him to 2nd and Pell would score on an RBI single by Mike Cubbage. Adrian set the Phillies down in the bottom half and we're knotted at 1 after 3.
The A's would take a brief 1 run lead in the 4th. Mark Snow led off with a walk but was then thrown out attempting to steal 2nd. Tom Hunter followed with a single and he would score on a deep double to right center by the returning Brian Bartlett to stake the A's to a 2-1 lead. The Phillies came right back with a solo run in the bottom of the 4th by way of 2 singles and 2 walks. 2-2 after 4. Both teams would score single runs again in the 5th. Jeff Rafferty led off the A's half with a walk and he promptly stole 2nd. With one out and Rogers at the plate Rafferty took off for 3rd. Rogers grounded to 3rd and the 3rd baseman never looked at Rafferty who had 3rd all but stolen and Jeff kept right on going to score on an infield groundout from 2nd. Great base running by the U11 Delran Tournament champs coach!!
The A's would surrender the lead right back in the bottom of the 5th, via a walk, a stolen base, a wild pitch and a single. After 5 we're all tied at 3. Both teams failed to score in the 6th and the A's would jump on top again in the 7th. Jimmy Cullinan led off with a single and Bartlett followed with a walk. With one out Rafferty nubbed one out in front of the plate and Cullinan was thrown out at 3rd. Bartlett moving up to 2nd and Rafferty safe at 1st. Pell then roped a single to left center to score Rafferty and it's 4-3 A's.
Hunter took over on the mound in the 7th as Adrian had to leave to attend his daughter's recital (Glam shots of Adrian will be up on the website at some point. THESE ARE YOU TUBE WORTHY!!! Trust me). Hunter turned a nifty line drive 1-4 double play to end a minor threat in the 7th and neither team could score in the 8th. Holding a 1 run cushion the A's looked to add some insurance in the 9th. Hunter led off with a single to left and moved to 2nd on a single by Cullinan. Bartlett then walked to load the bases with no one out. Chuck Wilkinson then walked to force in Hunter. Rafferty then singled to score Cullinan. Pell walked to force in Bartlett. Ed Miller then worked a walk to score Wilkinson and finally Cubby walked to score Rafferty and make it a 9-3 margin. Hunter added some minor two out drama but held the Phils off the board to earn the 3 inning save and get the A's back into the W column.

MAY 18 - The 35+ A's came back home this week looking to get back on the winning track after last week's first loss of the season.
The A's sent Adrian Gonzalez to the mound opposed by Jerry Milstein of the Angels.
The Angels jumped on top in the first when Capristo led off with a single, stole 2nd and moved to 3rd on a rundown when the umpire called interference on Gonzalez. He then scored on a sac fly. The A's failed to score against the sidewinding Milstein and after 1, the A's trailed 1-0. The Angels scored another solo run in the 2nd on a single, a walk and an error and the A's went 1-2-3 in the 2nd, 2-0 Angels after 2.
Neither team scored in the 3rd and the Angels used a single, a stolen base and another A's error to make it 3-0 after 4 as the A's bats remained silent. The Angels scored yet another solo run in the 5th via a hit batter, another A's error (noticing a theme), and a base hit to make it 4-0 as we headed to the home half of the 5th. The A's finally got on the board in the 5th. Jeff Rafferty led off with a walk and moved to 2nd when Lou Pell walked. After a double steal by Rafferty and Pell, Chuck Wilkinson singled to score Rafferty but the A's couldn't get Pell or Wilkinson home and it's 4-1 Halos after 5.
The Angels would get that run back and add another in the top of the 6th with 2 singles and a double to take a 6-1 lead. The A's couldn't counter in the 6th and the Angels would put the hammer down in the 7th, scoring 3 more runs via 2 more errors, 2 singles, 2 stolen bases and a walk to set the margin at 9-1 as McHugh had relieved Gonzalez in the inning. The A's would finally score again in the bottom of the 8th. George Rogers led off with a base hit and he scored on a booming double to left center by Ed Miller, but Ed was stranded at second and we headed to the 9th trailing 9-2.
McHugh would keep the Angels off the board in the top half and we head to the final at bat trailing by a hefty 7 runs. Cullinan led off with a double, and Rafferty followed with a single to right. Tom Hunter sent Cullinan home and the relay throw from first beat Cullinan but his slide easily beat the tag but the bleach blond, sunglass wearing umpire blew the call, ringing up Cullinan for the first out. Pell worked his 3rd walk of the day and the pair double stole again. Wilkinson then doubled to score Rafferty and Pell, but that was all the A's could muster and lose it 9-4 to the Angels.
The A's already playing without Bryan Bartlett (Calf) and Mike Cubbage(leg infection), added Craig Cirillo (broken pinky) to the walking wounded. This along with Mark Snow (knee), Billy McHugh(dead arm), Tom Hunter( bicep tendinitis) and Chuck Wilkinson(knee) playing at less than 100% health. This Memorial Day break couldn't come at a better time for this M*A*S*H* unit.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Chuck Wilkinson 3-4, 3RBI's
Jeff Rafferty 1-3, 1BB, 2R, 2SB
Lou Pell, 0-1, 3BB, 1R, 2SB

35+ A's DUMP G-MEN, 15-7, BEHIND CIRILLO BOMB
The Over 35 A's traveled to JFK in Willingboro to take on the Rancocas Giants in the 2008 season opener. This game can be summed up with two highlights.
CIRILLO GOES YARD! and WRONG WAY McHUGH WINS FIRST OPENING DAY START!.
The game started out great for the A's who got out of the blocks with a BIG 1st inning. Snow led off with a triple and scored when Rafferty reached on an error. Cirillo came to the plate on this windy morning with the wind actually blowing in and he pounded an offering over the fence down the left field line and just like that, 3 batters and a 3-0 lead. THIS WAS A LEGIT TATER. McHugh and Wilkinson later scored on an RBI single by Cullinan and after a half it was 5-0 A's.
Billy McHugh(who went to our Home field as opposed to where the game was actually being played) was making his first ever Opening Dat start, got nicked for a run but got out of significant trouble in the 1st. The Giants however got 3 runs back in the 2nd on 4 hits and an error and after 2 it was 5-4 A's.
Neither team scored in the 3rd and the A's tacked on 3 in the 4th. Hunter, who had walked, scored on an RBI by (MSBL newcomer) Frank Gifford, he then scored on an RBI single by Joe Bowyer (who is also new to the MSBL this year) who then scored on an RBI double by Cubbage. The frame ended 8-5 as the Giants got a solo run back in the bottom of the 4th.
The A's broke it open with 5 in the top of the 5th. Rafferty reached on an error, Cirillo followed with a single, Lou Pell(also making his summer season debut) then reached on an error. With the bases loaded the A's other rookie, Bryan Bartlett walked to force in Rafferty, Wilkinson then walked to force in Cirillo, then Cullinan hammered a triple down the left field line to clear the bases and make it a 13-5 game.
The A's would get two more in the 6th when Gifford and Bowyer singled back to back. Gifford scored on Cubbage's single and Bowyer scored on a sac fly by Snow to make it 15-5. The Giants would get two off McHugh in the bottom of the 6th as he got out of further trouble finishing his day's work.
The A's could score no further and Adrian Gonzalez came in to pitch scoreless 7th and 8th innings with an efficient performance ending the game on a K and the A's open on the new season with a solid W.
HIGHLIGHTS
Cirillo a triple short of cycle
Cubby 3 hits
Jimmy C 5 RBI's
Billy solid 6 innings on the hill
