Lightning closes 2009 summer season on a positive note!
The Lightning wrapped up its summer season with an important tie against Islington. The extra point ended up being just enough to squeeze into second place and clinch the CSL runner-up spot for the second year in a row. Well done team and thanks to Zoran, David and our great sponsors for making this possible.
HEART OF YORK SUMMER CLASSIC
COMPETITIVE TOURNAMENT
August 8-9, 2009
Teams registered: Newmarket A, Newmarket B, Seaway Blazers, Caboto Fusion, Sudbury Athletics, Beira, Barrie Spirit, Uxbridge Storm, Aurora Stingers, Markham Lightning, Malvern Lightning, North York Cosmos.
After coming down 4-2 in the opening round against Aurora, the Lightning came from behind to beat Caboto 2-1 in a hard fought battle. The boys then had to settle for a scoreless draw against Barrie, the eventual tournament winner.

Boys spend Ontario Cup weekend in Sudbury.
And live to tell about it.
Having slightly erred on the belief that the eight hours’ sleep was meant for the whole team, the Lightning had a laborious opening day conceding both games on tightly fought 2-1 scores. Despite an evident nervousness over recent bear sightings in the area, the Lightning came back with an impressive 8-0 victory on Sunday but felt short of earning a spot in the next round.
It was a great weekend with plenty to see and do and our young men also enjoyed a fun team-building dinner on Friday night, thanks to the generous support of Steel 2000 Inc, our newest sponsor. And of course, none of this would have been possible without Zoran and David’s hard work (and bus-driving skills).
...giving back to the community...

We played good soccer too with only one goal allowed in 3 games! Great warm-up for the season! Thanks to Zoran, David and all our sponsors for making this possible!

Summer Season Update - July 18, 2008
Lightning off to a great start!
Wow, 5 games into the summer season and the boys are still undefeated!!! Not an easy task given that our division is very balanced with many games being decided by a single goal. Our defenders have been superb and the goaltending has been solid and consistent. And the offence has showed good depth with 8 different scorers.
Well done Lightning and keep up the teamwork!
CHAMPIONS AGAIN!
Lightning takes
Peterborough Cup
A few weeks after winning the Oshawa tournament, the Lightning was back into action in Peterborough on June 14th and 15th and crowned a weekend of hard work by winning the coveted Challenge Cup in the top division. A fantastic team effort!

Lightning finishes regular season on a winning note!
Markham played a solid game and secured a 2-0 win over North Star 95 in their last game of the winter rep season. The Lightning then lost its playoff round to the Richmond Hill Premier team. This was a great season for Markham and the 3rd position finish was a marked improvement over last year’s record.
Congratulations to all!
