Marin Girls Softball: Rules

MGS Local Rules

Marin Girls Softball uses the "Official Rules of Softball" published each year by the Amateur Softball Association (ASA). ASA recommends and encourages youth softball leagues to adopt age appropriate rules modifications in order to assist in young players' skills development, help avoid injury, and keep the game progressing at an appropriate pace. The Board of Directors of MGSL have developed a set of age appropriate rules modifications known as the "Local Rules". All coaches and umpires are required to be familiar with these rules. It is helpful for parents of the players to become familiar with them as well. Click here if you wish to print a copy for yourself.

** The minors stealing rule has been updated as of 3/25/09 -

Rule 8- Batter-Runner & Runner – Stealing   page 13"Stealing second base is allowed when there are two outs only.  A base runner cannot advance if the ball is thrown past the player covering the base.  A runner may not advance on a pickoff attempt by the catcher.  Advancing two bases on a walk is not permitted by any base runner, including the Batter-Runner.”

Rules Committee Info for 2009 - We have set up a new email address for any and all rules questions.  rules_committee@yahoo.com, that is "rules_committee."  Your question will be answered by a member of the MGS rules committee.
