Welsh Award For Tiger Ellie.
Thursday 16th of July was a proud day for former tiger Ellie Curson and her family as she received the Welsh U.16's female player of the year award at a special ceremony in Cardiff attended by Welsh legend Ian Rush. Ellie has not only represented Wales this season but she captained the side in the tri-nations tournament in Ireland. Now playing @ Bristol Academy Ellie is still a frequent visitor to tiger training sessions to catch up with her many friends who it must be said are all proud of her too. Well done Elz and good luck as you move up to the U.17's squad where she'll join another former tiger Hadders.

Former Tiger Captains Wales U.15's
Former Tiger Ellie Curson has just returned from Belfast where she captained the Wales U.15's team in the 2009 Celtic Nations Tournament. A 1 v 1 draw in the first match against Northern Ireland was followed by a 2 v 2 draw against Republic Of Ireland, which included a stunning left foot volley goal from Ellie leaving the Welsh girls knowing a win against Scotland would win the tournament. Despite another goal from Ellie a 2 v 1 defeat cost them the crown. Ellie follows in the footsteps of former tigers Sharla Passariello & Rebekah Hadley as Welsh Junior Internationals. Sharla has now moved up into the U.19's squad and travel to Portugal later in April whilst Rebekah is a regular in the U.17's squad having just returned from Holland. Next Friday - 17th April 8 more tigers will travel to Treforest for Welsh Regional Squad Training in pursuit of their dream of emmulating their TIGER HEROES.

MARDY TIGERS 3 v 1 GEORGETOWN

With both clubs fielding a mixture of ages this turned out to be an entertaining game. With several tigers making their first appearance for the club it was always going to take a while to settle in. The breakthrough in a tight first half came when a superb cross from Kate found Jonesy in the box and a calm finish from the young striker gave the tigers the lead. Central midfield duo Ellie Leek & Sammy quayle had control and fed Amy just before the interval to double the lead. The tigers were awarded a penalty just before half-time when Kate was brought down and some bad sportmanship from one of the opposition who called out during the taking of the penalty spoilt a good spirited 30 minutes of football. 2 v 0 at the break soon became 3 v 0 when a looped cross from the right went over the keeper and into the net to give Kate a well deserved goal. Georgetown hit back witha super strike but Paige, Shauna, Rhian & Megan defended well and a fine performance in goal from Sophie was capped in injury time with a magnificent penalty save at full stretch. Player Of The Match was without doubt the tigers' right back Shauna Pentney who it must be said was also the youngest player on the pitch.

Shrewsbury International Football Tournament

Tigers @ Shrewsbury: - Aug. 6th - 8th.

Day 1 - 13 tigers travelled to Shrewsbury on Wednesday morning for a 3 day trip staying at the exclusive Shrewsbury School. The squad arrived in plenty of time to settle in and prepare for their first match against old rivals C.Y.P. Wales, a team selected from many clubs throughout Wales.A bright start by the tigers saw them lead at the interval thanks to a goal from Jonesy. However their opponents long ball Wimbledon style football and not pretty to watch caught the girls out in the second half with 2 quick goals. However the tigers fought back and looked like getting a draw which would have been the very least they deserved when Amy struck with 5 minutes left. However the old saying " You're most vulnerable just after you score" came true when C.Y.P. nicked it almost from kick off. Having played much the better football the tigers returned to base and lick their wounds ahead of an important day 2.

Day 2 - There were no negative thoughts at breakfast, only talk of 2 wins today and a place in the final tomorrow. Sharing breakfast were boys from Manchester United & Cardiff City. The coach arrived in plenty of time to prepare for the first of 2 very important fixtures against Aberystwyth Academy. The wounded tigers were magnificent and totally outplayed their shell shocked opponents with a 4 v 0 victory thanks to goals from: - Amy, Kate, Zoe & Kayleigh. It really could and should have been a lot more. American opposition in F.C. New York now stood in our way for the very first time knowing victory would book us a cup final place tomorrow. A goalless first half but no nerves as the tigers knew patience would be the key against a physical outfit. A goal from Jonesy in the second minute after the break was followed up by a superb strike from kate to seal victory. Spirits were high on their return to Shrewsbury School with Big & Little Wayne captaining sides in a game of football rounders. Jade made 100 new friends, all 9 year old Manchester United players and joined them for a training session. Early to bed, maybe not!!! to prepare for big game tomorrow.

Day 3 - Sunshine accompanied the squad on an early morning stroll in the school grounds before breakfast as the girls looked forward to their re-match with C.Y.P. Wales. 12.30 p.m. was kick off time but this was delayed due to a nasty injury in the match before ours. When the final did get started the tigers began strongly and a goal after 10 minutes from Jonesy, her third of the tournament, settled the nerves. The girls looked comfortable in posession but again a lump forward was to be their downfall just before half-time making it 1 v 1. The second period saw quite a few chances go missing for the tigers in this match of very contrasting styles. Play was held up for 30 minutes for a bad injury to a C.Y.P. player with an ambulance needed to take her to hospital. Penalties would decide this one. 4 v 4 after 5 each it went to sudden death. 5 v 5 after 8 each. A tiger miss gave their opponents a chance but a superb save from replacement keeper Jade was ruled out as the referee's assistant ruled she'd come off her line. This time the ball hit the net to seal victory for the representative outfit. Medals were presented by former Wales manager Mike Smith.

A fantastic trip may have ended in disappointment but as usual Mardy Tigers made many friends and admirers for their style of play on the field and superb attitudes off it.WELL DONE TIGERS - YOU WERE A CREDIT TO THE CLUB.

June 21st & 22nd 2008: - Swindon Spitfires Tournament.

Three age groups travelled to Swindon for another busy weekend for Mardy Tigers Girls' F.C. With 2 age groups reaching the semi-finals in what is probably the most competitive tournament we play it was fantastic especially taking account of the size of club we were taking on as well as the usual representative sides from West Wales & C.Y.P. agains taking part. Our youngsters can be especially proud of their semi-final having won 2 group matches thanks to goals from Smurf. Our U.14's again played the best football of the tournament and lost out in a top quality encounter against Cadburys Heath re-named Brislington.

Mardy Tigers F.C. 2007-08 Presentation Evening: -

Saturday 14th June @ Goytre F.C.

This was a celebration of a unique season in the history of our club and was attended by over 100 guests. We all enjoyed the meal and disco with a special appearance by the King - ELVIS!!! With football shirts banned it was fantastic to see the tigers transformed from ladettes into ladies for the evening. The superb display of trophies and medals was a sight for sore eyes and the players were excited to find out who'd won the special awards.

Parents' Player Of The Year: - The U.12's award went to club captain and midfield maestro Alice Morgan, whilst the rock at the heart of our U.14's defence Frankie Wesson collected the trophy for the U.14's.

Most Improved Player Of The Season: - Both of these awards went to defenders with Alys Le Moignan - U.12's & Megan James - U.14's being rewarded for their improvements since September.

Player's Player Of The Season: - Despite only joining the tigers halfway through the season U.12's midfielder Sammy Quayle certainly won the respect of her team mates whilst top scorer Amy Thrupp with 54 goals this season won a very close vote for the U.14's.

Club Girl Of The Season: - These special tiger awards went to a young player who has yet to play in her own age group but continues to give everything against the older girls Katie Webb - U.12's, whilst Leah Lovering was rewarded for her superb attitude both on and off the pitch won the U.14's award.

Manager's Player Of The Season: - The U.12's award went to Alice Morgan who displayed everything you need to succeed as a footballer: - HEART, SKILL & FANTASTIC ATTITUDE. She also captained the team from central midfield and with 17 goals was joint top scorer along with striker Sadie Robertson. The U.14's award went to a young tiger thrown in the deep end in January when keeper Sophie Foote was injured and would miss the rest of the season. Rhian Lambert took the gloves and did a fantastic job in the most difficult position on the field.

A special Tiger Award was presented to Ellie Curson to recognise her selection for Wales U.15's this season.

Harry Hotshot made a special presentation of a unique book with photographs and match reports of Mardy Tigers U.14's awesome season to an emotional coach Wayne who thanked everyone: - players, parents, coaches & referees for making Mardy Tigers Girls' F.C. such a special club.
