MCC-Maple Woods open try out for 2010 season set for Thursday, June 4, 2009.

Try out begins promptly at 1:00pm.

2009 REGION XVI CHAMPIONS

St. Louis, MO-The Monarchs completed the sweep of the Region XVI Division I Baseball Tournament by beating Jefferson College in the championship 10-8.  MCC-Maple Woods was the number one seed, entering the tournament 34-17, and 22-6 in Region XVI play.  The Monarchs beat #8 seed North Central Missouri College 5-4 in the first round. Second round play had the Monarchs spreading Mineral Area College 14-4. Next MCC-Maple Woods beat Jefferson College 6-5 putting the Monarchs in the championship. Jefferson College then beat St. Louis Community College-Meramec 10-0 to once again face the Monarchs.

MCC-Maple Woods capitalized on homeruns by Rashad Jackson, CJ McElroy, and a grand slam by catcher Adam Seal.  Tommy Coovert threw 6 2/3 innings, Alex Ross entered the game, and Chris Thomas closed the game by throwing the remaining 2 1/3 innings.

Head Coach Marty Kilgore once again captured the Region XVI Coach of the Year honor.

MCC-Maple Woods will now host the NJCAA South Central District Championship May 15-16.

Pujols played at Maple Woods in 1999 and led the team to their 3rd regional championship. Maple Woods is very proud of Albert's accomplishments, he is the first major league player from Maple Woods. On January, 15th 2002 Maple Woods Community College officially retired the number 33 worn by Albert during the 1999 season. There will be a banner on the Maple Woods outfield fence honoring Albert's retired jersey.
