QUOTES from 30th Anniversary Brochure made by Mike Flanagan:
"I'll never forget how excited I was when I got my first uniform, I wore it around the house for days. My parents couldn't get me to take it off"
"Another thing I'll always remember about the South Little League is the closeness that existed among the parents and among the players. Competition among the teams was intense. Still, the South Little League was a big, happy family"
"I had some awfully good times in those days" adds the 6-0, 195 pound Manchester Native.
Not only was Mike a good pitcher he was a accomplished batsman. He maintained a .500 average throughout his little league career and clouted 10 to 12 home runs per season. His most memorable offensive output came in a game that his team Temple Food Mart won. Mike collected five hits in six trips to the plate, including three grand slam homers and two doubles. Mike's teammate was Don York who owns Indian Head Athletics here in Manchester.

South's 50th Anniversary Game Played!
| ||
| view full size |
The day started out with the registration of past players and dignitaries which included Mayor Robert Baines who declared June 13th as Manchester South Little League day from this day forward.
On display in the clubhouse was past photos and newspaper clippings from games played 10, 20, 30, 40 and yes, 50 years ago.
The highlight of the day was the game played between the major teams of Oddfellows and Knights of Columbus. Both teams were adorned in 50 year old replica uniforms. The game was played using wooded bats just like they did 50 years ago to the day.
An exciting game was played in what turned out to be a pitching dual between the to clubs. K of C ultimately came out on top in a 2-0 win.
A big thanks goes out to the many volunteers. Particularly the 50th anniversary group headed by Kim Roy and all within her team. Great job...great time...great memories!!
