Fellow Parents, Coaches, Umpires, and Board Members: As we close in on the end of the regular season and start thinking about the playoffs and tournament teams, I would like remind everyone to remain vigilant to the safety issues related to our Clubhouse construction and the hazards inherent to the game of baseball. 1. I believe we have done a good job of controlling access and traffic in and out of the clubhouse. Until officially released for access, please refrain from allowing the players into the clubhouse and keep the adult access to an "as needed" basis (i.e. controlling the scoreboard). Of course you are welcome to access the clubhouse to help clean up for our grand opening!!! 2. We have had one reportable injury this year. I challenge all of you to identify hazardous conditions and areas and report them to the league president or myself, but most importantly - take the action to do something about it. Control access, mark it off, etc. 3. Okay this is the big one. We have had an issue with players holding the bats in the dugout prior to their turn to bat. This is unacceptable and has been epidemic among all divisions this year. Recently, there have been warnings issued to Major League teams by the umpires. Remember that being kicked out of a game results in missing the next game as well. Coaches - please discuss this with your team and do not let a momentary loss of situational awareness result in one of your players missing one of the few games we have left. Even worse, we don't need any black eyes, broken bones or teeth, or anything else that can result from handling the bats in the confined space of the dugout - see number 2 above.. Please see the League Safety Manual (on the website) for more information - the attached picture says it all.
