Manatee Area Volleyball: Serving Bradenton & Sarasota: Vision

Our philosophy is to improve upon each athlete’s talent through team practices and competition. Striving to win is essential for enjoyable competition. We strive to instill a will to win, a love of the game and a desire to improve. We want to have fun and learn the skills, strategies and teamwork necessary to improve and develop as a team. The team comes first and coaches will work to develop each individual athlete. Whether a player wants to improve for their middle school, high school, or get a college scholarship, we know we can help each athlete that puts forth the effort to improve.  We follow and adhere to all AAU, USAV, Club and Team rules. We expect all MAV participants to adhere to the same rules.

The MAV Director, Nancy Cothron and her husband began this club 20 years ago with the goal of improving players in the Manatee County area. Not only has the name of the club changed over the years, but also the number of participants. Beginning with approximately 2 primarily league teams, MAV has grown to 9 travel teams in 2010.  We currently have over 100 participants in elementary, middle school, high school, and travel team programs. The name of the program is now known as Manatee Area Volleyball Club, LLC. The club is continuing to grow and add experienced coaches and great players. Our goal is to continue to offer a top rate instructional and competitive volleyball program at a rate which is affordable. This club is responsible for: providing a healthy, positive environment for participants; teaching and reinforcing the fundamentals of volleyball; encouraging teamwork and sportsmanship; focusing on positive reinforcement as a primary tool in the learning process; teaching that opponents and officials are to be respected and appreciated; and offering advanced skills and techniques for those athletes who wish to play at the next level.

Our Elite team programs offer the more experienced and college bound athlete a chance to compete in highly competitive tournaments in and out of the state.  We begin training in December and continue to May or even July for teams who qualify for the USA Nationals.  Players will receive strength, jump, speed & agility training as well as small group specialty training for hitters, setters, and passers with the goal of doing this at least once every 2 weeks, if not more often.

Teams practice 3 days a week every other week with more days per week in December and at the beginning of the season. Sessions last 2 – 3 hours per practice. These teams will compete in 1-2 USAV National Qualifiers and the top USAV tournaments in the State.

This year players will be selected and placed according to ability level, but with keeping players as close to their age group divisions as possible. We will take into positions available per age group, teammates, coach’s personalities and many other factors to make up teams for the 2014 MAV season.

The 2014 prices range from $2000-$3200 depending on the tournament schedule. (The listed price includes hotels for coaches & players, practices, uniforms, and tournament entry fees).  USAV membership and airfare is not included and each player must pay a try out fee. Age divisions range from 14 and under to 18 years of age.

Travel Teams

Our Travel Team is for the intermediate to advanced player.  We will compete in 5-7 USAV & AAU tournaments. These tournaments will take place from January to May. The exact tournament schedule will be decided on how strong the team is in each age division.  We will offer teams in the 10 & under to 18 & Under. These teams will practice 2 times per week. Prices range from $800-$2000 depending on the tournament Schedule.

Instructional League

Our instructional league usually has 8-12 practices with league play and sometimes a final tournament.  No travel is required.  Players compete against other teams within the same league.  Our league covers, basic skills of serving, passing, setting, & hitting.  Defensive & offensive strategies are introduced and practiced as well.  If you are an intermediate or advanced player, it is good to help tweak your game! Practices are held at local gyms in Bradenton.
