Three Manhasset ALLSTARS will lead the team this year!
Boys' Varsity Basketball
Even though all five starters from the 2006 NYSAIS Class A State Championship Team graduated last year, the 2007 team has reason to be optimistic. The team will be led by 6"7" senior Max Shillalies. Max was a key contributor from last year's team and has shown much promise in the early season practices. Surrounding "Big Max" is an influx of new talent to LWA. Sophomores Sean Henry and Chris Williams, should offer energy and excitement to the boys' program.

KEVIN DOOLEY - PENN (FOOTBALL)
RAY RICE - RUTGERS (FOOTBALL) - DRAFTED BY THE BALTIMORE RAVENS (NFL)
12/30/2006
Ray Rice, voted the game MVP, finished with 170 yards rushing on 24 carries. When being presented with the trophy on the field, Rice invited his offensive line up on the platform to share credit. He also recognized running mate Brian Leonard, whom he called, "My big brother and my best friend."
Speaking to the press later inside the stadium, Rice said of his O-line, "The way we were playing was magnificent. They were pushing me. They could barely talk to me they were so tired, so that really pumped me up."
So did playing his last game with Leonard, the senior and heart and soul of the team.
"He's meant everything to my success. I don't think I could have managed handling my success without that guy, because we're always talking about the game and he tells me things. He's my mentor, my brother; he's been kind of an everything person to me.
"I'm going to take a lot of his attributes and give them to the team next year. I'll be going into my junior season and I'll have to be a leader. There's no choice now. I'll put that leadership mark on my back and try and take the team to the next level."
The next level, Rice feels, can be as high as the team wants it to be.
DEC. 11, 2006
Ray Rice's sensational second season was capped off by a pair of national awards. After rushing for 1,495 yards and 17 TDs on the season, Raymell Rice was named a Second Team All-America by the Walter Camp Football Foundation on Thursday, and one of only four nominees for the 2006 Cingular All-America Player of the Year.
Nov. 13, 2006
They said he hadn't done it in a big game. So he did, carrying his squad to a big victory in front of a national audience at Pitt some weeks back. But then, the pundits argued, Raymell Rice wouldn't arrive unless he'd lead his Rutgers Football team to seemingly unlikely victories against the beasts of the Big East. So Rice went to work.
Rice added a pair of scores to his already glowing resume as he helped lead the Scarlet Knights to the program's ninth consecutive win. Rice is now 3rd in the nation in yards per game (148.2) and has eclipsed the 100-yard mark in all but 2 contests in 2006. Rice is also the team leader in points, good enough for the top ranking in the conference

Notes and Quotes
GAME BALL GOES TO: RB Ray Rice -- All he did Saturday was run for a career-high 225 yards and a touchdown on 39 carries, giving him 1,124 yards for the season.
Oct. 2, 2006
Raymell Rice was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week after 202 rushing yards and two touchdowns at South Florida while Ito was named the BIG EAST Special Teams Player of the Week for his three field goals vs. the Bulls.
It marked the second time this season Rice was named the conference's offensive player of the week.
Rice finished with 35 carries for 202 yards and two touchdowns in Rutgers' 22-20 victory at USF on Sept. 29. It was his seventh straight game of 100 or more yards dating back to last season, tying the school mark held by "JJ" Jennings (1972-73). Rice also tied Jennings' school record with his third 200-yard rushing performance.
For the season, Rice has 806 rushing for the season, second in the country.
Heisman hype
Move over Brian Leonard. Make room for Ray Rice, Rutgers' newest Heisman Trophy contender.
The Scarlet Knights' tailback received his own Heisman pitch Monday, with Rutgers releasing a double-sided flier of Leonard, the star fullback, on one side and Rice, the nation's fourth-leading rusher, on the other.
"Right now we're just sending some mail-outs (to Heisman voters) just trying to draw attention Ray's way," said Jason Baum, media relations director for Rutgers football.
Like brianleonard23.com, Baum said the sports information department is "exploring a Web site for Ray as well."
PISCATAWAY, NJ 9/23/2006 - Ray Rice (New Rochelle, NY) and Brian Leonard (Gouverneur, NY) combined for 167 yards rushing and five touchdowns as Rutgers rolled to a 56-7 victory over Howard on Saturday at Rutgers Stadium. With the win, the Scarlet Knights improved to 4-0 and are off to their best start since 1980.
Rice, the nation’s fourth leading rusher entering the game, finished with 105 yards on 23 carries, his sixth consecutive 100-yard game.
Rice finished off a six-play drive with less than five minutes to play in the half when he scored from three yards out.
Rice’s one-yard run made the score 35-0 and he found the end zone for his third score of the day less then three minutes later.

Rice Named National Off. Player of the Week
Posted Sep 3, 2006
The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced its Division 1-A National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for games ending September 3 and Rutgers sophomore tailback Ray Rice (New Rochelle, N.Y.) was named the Offensive Player of the Week.
Rice rushed for 201 yards on 31 carries and three touchdowns to lead Rutgers to a 21-16 season-opening road victory over North Carolina. Rice, who rushed for 128 yards in the first half, had touchdown runs of 2, 7 and 10 yards to lead the Scarlet Knights. It was Rice's second career 200-yard rushing effort.
Rice recorded career-highs in rushing attempts (31) and touchdowns (3) in the win.
It was the third consecutive game that Rice surpassed the 100-yard mark. Rice is the first Rutgers back since Jacki Crooks in 1999 to post three straight 100-yard performances. Crooks had five 100-yard games in a row over the 1998 and 1999 seasons, ending on Sept. 4, 1999.
Rice's effort vs. the Tar Heels was the fourth time in his career that he has topped the 150-yard plateau. The 201-yard performance in a season-opener for Rice was the largest output on opening day for a Scarlet Knight since Dennis Thomas rushed for 177 yards at Buffalo in RU's 31-15 victory on Aug. 30, 2001.

THE PERFECT SEASON (1999) - 12-0 AT IS8
New York City & New Jersey High Hoops
IS8 JUMPMAN SUMMER HIGH SCHOOL CLASSIC 1999
8/15/99 The Dalai Lama is in Central Park, but the IS8 championship round is in Jamaica. The Manhasset ALLSTARS won the Biddie division against the Rifles 51 - 50. With a second to go Trevone Hughes (Gamegall #19) of the Rifles had two foul shots. He made them both but the ref called a lane violation (!) on the second shot. The Rifles Hughes, Ray Arnold and Jarrett Petty are a great trio, Manhasset has the depth. Any of their super six - Tyson Johnson, Joey Amelio, Keith Turcios, Jonathan Fountain, Raymell Rice and Ricardo St. Louis could start for the Rifles, as could no-show Kevin Dooley. The ALLSTARS have a busy Sunday; they play the Staten Island Lightning tonight at Madison Square Garden before the Liberty game.
8/7/99 Biddies play at IS8 on Saturday morning: 1st. Presbyterian Spirit is led by Marques Cox (GB # 12) as they take Danny Green and 80 Park 41 - 25. The two teams will meet again Friday at 6:30 in a first round playoff. The Rifles will play the Skyriders in the second biddie playoff game. Manhasset All Stars and Roadrunners finish in first place; they'll play against Friday winners next Saturday morning @ 9:15 and 10:15.
7/17/99 Biddies (12 under - usually sixth graders) play at IS8 on Saturday morning. The Rifles' Ray (Arnold? - Gameball #1) and Jarrett ? score 18 and 16 points to easily take Elmcor 50 - 37. In the second game Manhasset beats 80 Park 37 - 32. Keith Turcios (GB # 15) scores 15 points and Tyson Johnson (GB # 27) gets lots of rebounds to offset Danny Green's (GB #24) 13 points.
7/11/99 Biddies (12 under - usually sixth graders) play at IS8 on Sunday morning. The Rifles' Ray (Arnold? - Gameball #1) is the best player on the court and scores most of his team's points. But Manhasset Allstars lead all the way, hanging on to win 36 - 34. Keith Turcios (GB # 15) and unrated Kevin Dooley make the difference. In the second game the inside, outside 80 Park duo of Danny Green (GB #24) and Aleek Pauline (GB #25) were too much for Elmcor. 80 Park wins 35 - 20 going away.
7/10/99 The IS8 summer league began this week and will continue through playoff week and championship Sunday, August 15th. Peter Edwards, the IS 8 league commissioner, has three divisions for the summer. There are 14 teams in the returning high school division and they play at 6:30 and 8:00 pm each Tuesday through Friday night.
