Upset Win in 2010 Eating Contest

It was a random field of 2010 XC eating contest competitors, taking on the slightly-less-than-2009-which-itself-was-waaay-less-than-2006 challenge of two McDoubles, a pie, a disgusting milkshake, and something else in Mays Landing on Saturday. Returning favorit John Brennan seemed very confident as he awaited the start. Last second entry Alejandro "Macho" Camacho was also ready to win as a last minute entry, bringing the contest to yet anothor part of our world. Mike Derosiers, Ethan Fischer, and a completely-understanding Louis Moskovitz rounded out the filed.

Bad manners, and large bites opened things up. While Alex went burrito-like foodstuff first, many of the freshmen took the "rotating cheeseburger" opening in machine-like fashion. An eraly lead by both Brennan and Fischer was quickly surmised by those in the crowd. Minutes later, those who still were able to repress their urge to look away were witness to history - freshman phenom Ethan Fischer FTW!!!!

The first freshman to take the title in contest history, Ethan had other competitors throwing their food in disgust. Will he become the first repeat champion??? Will anyone rise up to challenge in 2011? How will he compare to Hall of Famers Tom DeCourcey or Max Mittelman? Stay tuned!

Mainland's Heyman honored by N.J. Coaches Association Hall of Fame
Published: Tuesday, April 08, 2008

From Press staff reports

Coach Dan Heyman of the Mainland Regional High School cross country team was honored Sunday by the New Jersey State Scholastic Coaches Association Hall of Fame Luncheon in Edison.

Heyman has coached the Mustangs track program for 13 years with an outstanding 122-7 career record. He led the Mustangs to three state titles, five South Jersey titles and 11 Atlantic County Championships.

Under his leadership, Mainland also became the first boys program to win the Meet of Champions in back-to-back seasons (2002-2003).

"A lot of really great runners from my teams came out. It reminded me how lucky I am to have worked with such great kids over the years," Heyman said. "I always tell them that it's a reflection of them. It speaks to how great the kids I work with are. I'm just honored to be given this recognition."
