Caddo Magnet Celebrates Season With Soccer Banquet

The state champion Caddo Magnet Mustangs held their annual sports banquet last week at Eastridge Country Club in South Shreveport. Ascension Smith was recognized for her role in bringing soccer to Caddo Magnet amid staunch dissent in Caddo Magnet’s early years. Current principal Mary Rounds and athletic director Linda Clements were recognized for their continued support of the men's and ladies' soccer programs.  A delicious buffet was enjoyed by all. Amid and throughout the coat-and-tie crowd were lots of fellowship, love, and TEAM.  Held in conjunction with the ladies’ side and JV teams of both sides, the event went into lengthy stoppage time, but there was no one complaining. There was only one yellow and one red card issued over the course of the evening, both going to State Most Valuable Player senior Nick Flowers in the 120th minute. He was, however, allowed to stay on the stage long enough to have one more post-season award tacked on – the team Most Valuable Player award presented by Louisiana’s Coach of the Year Radi Baltov. Though individual awards go against his ‘team’ concept Coach Radi also presented the team Offensive MVP award to junior whiz Zach Kelly and the Defensive MVP award to senior Spencer Inman. Jimmy ‘Goals’ Cowles grabbed the 110% Effort award, and Perwaiz Nawabi snared the Most Improved award. The entire team was presented gold medals and Sport Spectrum state champion t-shirts for their first place finish in the state. The festivities were brought to a close with a wonderful video of the season prepared by the talented W.T. Sinclair.
