Mustangs Defeat Airline 3 to 0

Louisiana’s #1 team became the state’s first 20-game winner this season in boys high school soccer when Caddo Magnet defeated Airline 3 to 0 Monday night. The scoring got started in the sixth minute when midfielder Steven Bush got a good look at the net from the 18-yard line and quickly buried it. Midway through the half Adam West took a ricochet off a defender and sent in Magnet’s second goal. The Mustangs were in control throughout the half managing ten shots-on-goal while rarely giving their opponent the opportunity to build any kind of attack. The Vikings appeared to be more concerned with defending their goal than mounting any offensive as there were rarely more than two Vikings past the halfway line. The first half came to a close with the Mustangs holding the 2 to 0 lead. The second half opened with a quick score from Victor Leuck as he slapped a keeper fumble into the net from the 6-yard box. Liberal Mustang substitutions throughout the second half gave Airline the opportunity to open up its offensive game, but they could manage only two shots-on-goal, both scooped up by Caddo Magnet keeper Chris Hilario who recorded his 14th shutout of the season. The Mustangs continued to move the ball well and maintained a substantial possession edge, but the second half shooting slowed as they managed only three shots-on-goal. Final score – 3 to 0. Next up for the 20-1-0 Mustangs is Huntington on Thursday night.
