Caddo Magnet Finishes District Play With Perfect Record
Caddo Magnet defeats Huntington 9 to 0 to finish the district run at 12-0 with 9 by shutout. Overall the Mustangs went 22-3-1 for the regular season. The Mustangs have the district’s top goal scorer in senior co-captain Eric Johnson (41 goals) and the top assist man in sophomore Zach Kelly (19 assists), not that all the offense went through these two players. Coach Radi Baltov’s style of play had every player on the roster contributing goals or assists at some point during the season. Sophomore midfielder Steven Bush finished the regular season in the top 10 in both scoring (9th with 13 goals) and assists (tied for 3rd with 14 assists). Goalkeeper Chris Hilario and his defense (co-captain Micah Goodwin, Spencer Inman, Robert Poole, and Luke Snow) had 15 shutouts in 26 games.

Tonight’s game featured everyone getting plenty of playing time. The scoring started in the fifth minute when Akeem Williams notched his first score from the front of the goal. Outside midfielder Steven Bush would figure into the next three scores on crosses from deep in the right corner, first to Jimmy Cowles in the 24th minute, then to Eric Johnson in the 25th minute, and then to Ethan Colbert who volleyed one into the far corner of the net in the 30th minute. Huntington put one into their own net to finish out the scoring in the first half.

The second half was more of the same with Johnson collecting two more scores (one assisted by Williams), Williams getting his second of the night (assisted by Inman), and Adam West returning to the lineup for a shot late in the game. West had been recuperating from a prior ankle injury.

The Mustangs enter the playoffs this week as District One’s top seed. Their opponent will be named on Wednesday, and the game date will be determined shortly thereafter.
