! ! ! DISTRICT CHAMPIONS ! ! !
Caddo Magnet wins tonight and officially takes the 2007 district crown. Tonight’s win over Southwood (9 to 0) gave the Mustangs their 10th district win. With only two more district matches to play (Natchitoches on Friday and Huntington on Tuesday) no other team can overtake them at this point. Caddo Magnet has a rich soccer history with ten district titles dating back to 1994. The Mustangs last held the district championship in 2004 when they shared the title with Captain Shreve. In that year the Mustangs finished the regular season at 19-3-2 with a district record of 13 wins and 1 loss (to Captain Shreve in penalty kicks). Three of tonight's players have older brothers who played on that 2004 championship team. Brad Goodwin, Henry Hilario, and Jordan Johnson are the brothers of current players Micah, Chris, and Spencer. This year the team has won the title outright, and the last time Caddo Magnet accomplished that was in 2001.

Tonight’s game was an opportunity for all players to get playing time, with non-starters picking up three goals and 4 assists. Division One District One scoring leader Eric Johnson scored five times, with Steven Bush, Alex Blandin, Jordan Mitchell, and Dorian Long also getting goals. Assists were handed out by Akeem Williams (2), Jordan Abdehou, Johnson, Bush, Zach Kelly (2), and Long. With his two assists, Kelly stretched out his lead on the Assist leaderboard for Division One District One.

The regular season draws to a close early next week, and Caddo Magnet will play its first playoff match at home on or before Saturday February 3rd. Actual date will be determined by the coaches involved when the season officially ends on January 30, after which time our opponent will be determined.
