Mustangs Steal District Match From Gators
Neither Caddo Magnet nor Captain Shreve could find the net in regulation and overtime of ‘The Big Game.’ Mustang goalkeeper Chris Hilario was a mind-reader in the penalty kick phase – stopping all three of Shreve’s attempts while Magnet made all of theirs. Hilario preceded this effort with a magnificent performance during regulation and overtime. Neither team looked particularly sharp tonight as both sides had trouble stringing passes together. Magnet looked eager to score early, but after five off-sides calls the momemtum began to shift. The Gators spent a lot of time on the Magnet end of the field, especially in the second half and the overtime periods. They bombarded the Magnet side with shots all night, but between Hilario and a never-give-up defense of Jimmy Cowles, Micah Goodwin, Spencer Inman, and Robert Poole (and Adam West during the overtime period) the Mustangs were able to carry this game to penalty kicks. This game will not go down as either team’s finest effort, and nothing has really been settled or proven between these two teams as both now have a victory over the other for the season (Shreve’s victory coming in the Sulphur Tournament semifinal). They will meet again in early January for ‘The Big Big Game.’
