For the 12th year in a row, Madison West Women’s soccer team is one of the approximately 224 national high school teams awarded the NSCAA Academic Achievement Award. No other high school soccer team in the nation has achieved this honor.

To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 for the entire academic year. For the 2005 season, the West Varsity team's "average" grade point was 3.59, on a 4.0 scale.
 
Community
Madison, a city of approximately 221,735 is the location of the state capitol and is the largest campus for the University of Wisconsin System. Madison has long been considered a leading cultural and educational center of the mid-west. West High School is a comprehensive four-year high school with a current enrollment of 2,107.

West High School's students come from various social, economic, and cultural backgrounds; however, the majority are from business and professional families. Located near the University of Wisconsin, West has a large international population. Approximately 39% of the students are students of color – 9 Native American, 227 Hispanic, 265 Asian, and 315 African Americans. 

West was the recipient of the "School of Excellence" award in 1985 by the U.S. Department of Education and is accredited by the Wisconsin State Department of Public Instruction and by the North Central Association.
