History Of Summer Classic

The first Madison Summer Volleyball Classic was held on Saturday August 7th, 1999 at Stanton Community Park at the request and thirst from many volleyball enthusiasts to bring a summer volleyball tournament back to Madison. In the early 1990's, many summer volleyball tournaments were held at Madison Township Park, which starting in 2014 will be the new host of the Summer Classic. Those tournaments were hosted by the now defunct Madison Volleyball Club. The club hosted these events to raise revenue for their uniforms, tournament entry fee's and traveling expenses for the USA/USVBA circuit they played in. Madison Township Park is a great venue for tournaments,  Community which is surrounded by many local bars and restaurants. When the idea for a summer tournament came about in 1999, the administrators of Madison Township suggested we use Stanton Community Park. The reason was all the wear and tear the tournaments were causing to the outfield grass at Township Park during its hey day of softball leauges at the park. Stanton Community Park was used for the first 15 years ( which is named after former local congressmen Bill Stanton) is located on the shores of Lake Erie, and provided a tranquil backdrop for the tournament. The Summer Classic has attracted players from Parkersburg,WVa, Erie and Pittsburgh, Pa, Akron, Canton,Cincinnati and all the nearby towns that surround Madison, making the Classic a very competitive and premiere tournament in northeast Ohio. Through the years , we have been able to upgrade our equipment from new nets, fencing and boundary lines from the participation we have received. We would like to thank everyone who has ever participated in our tournaments and Madison Township for letting us use Stanton Park. Without you the participants, the Classic would not be what it is today. We are also proud to announce that we are sponsors of the Madison Food Center. In 2010 and 2011 we donated a total of $1,100. In 2012, we had a record 25 teams, and donated $1,000 to the Food Center. In 2013 we were able to give $220 to the Madison Food center which is affiliated with the Cleveland Food Bank.

                                                            About Us

In 1994 and 1995, we helped run summer tournaments for the Madison Volleyball Club. These tournaments were started to raise revenue for the clubs uniforms, tournament entry fees and other expenses that would occur. The tournaments were men's and women's 3's and co-ed 4's teams that attracted mostly players from the USA/USVBA circuit, preparing for their upcoming seasons. The tournaments included the Spinnakers Sports Bar, American Legion Carnival, Pioneer Waterland and the Madison Old Fashioned Days tournaments. From 1996-2000, we helped run the American Red Cross/FM 102 Zoo tournament at Walnut Beach in Ashtabula, Ohio. The Red Cross tournament was known for their great prizes which were provided by many businesses in Ashtabula, Lake and Geauga counties. All proceeds from this tournament went to the Ashtabula Chapter of the American Red Cross. In 2000, we were introduced to a group called Rock-N-Roll Volleyball. This group runs three fund raising tournaments a year to help aid the cure for cancer, which benefits the American Cancer Society ( Cleveland Chapter) . Rock-N-Roll Volleyball raises around $5,000 a year, making them the leading sponsor yearly for the American Cancer Society. We make no revenue in running volleyball tournaments, we help run them for the love of the sport.

                         Thankyou and God Bless !
