IHSA Adopts Lacrosse for 2010-2011 Season

...BREAKING NEWS......
October 13, 2009
IHSA Board Approves Lacrosse State Series For 2010-11

The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Board of Directors approved a recommendation at its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, October 13 to adopt an official State Series for the sports of Boys Lacrosse and Girls Lacrosse beginning with the 2010-11 school term. The official IHSA lacrosse season, State Series and State Finals will be contested during the spring semester.     ......full press release......

What this means specificially to the Lake Zurich program is still unknown.  Sanctioning by the state does not obligate schools to officially add lacrosse to their program; however, according to this press release "...the IHSA endorsement of the sport will help bring more legitimacy to club and intramural programs around the state and that many more schools will field squads in the coming years."  LZHS and District 95 will have to review this news from the IHSA and make decisions on whether to adopt lacrosse as a sport.

New Boys Varsity Head Coach - Nick Marks

Nick MarksThe Lake Zurich Lacrosse Club has hired Nick Marks as the Head Varsity Coach of the Lake Zurich High School boys lacrosse team.  In this role, Nick will be responsible for the management, coordination, and training of all of the boys’ high school lacrosse coaches and teams.

“We are extremely excited to have Nick Marks join our staff,” said Dave Kintzer, President, of the Lake Zurich Lacrosse Club.  “Nick brings a wealth of lacrosse knowledge and experience to the program.  We look forward to working with Nick to continue to build on the progress of the program and to take us to the next level.”

Nick is a Lacrosse Program Director for Lacrosse America.  He is also the Director of Team Illinois, which is a college prep program composed of the most talented lacrosse players in Illinois who play in elite tournaments around the country.  In 2009, he coached and led his U-15 team to first place in the Chicago Challenge, second place in the New York Golden Goal, and third place in the National Dick’s Sporting Goods Tournament.  And in 2008, his Team U-19 won the championship in the Park City Classic Tournament.

Prior to working at Lacrosse America, Nick played professional lacrosse for the Chicago Machine and Chicago Shamrox.  He was drafted by the Chicago Machine as the 49th overall selection in the 2008 Major League Lacrosse draft.

Nick graduated from Bucknell University in 2008.  Bucknell recruited Nick as an exceptional dual sport athlete to play football and lacrosse.  In lacrosse, he was a four-year starter for Bucknell’s Division I lacrosse program.  He excelled as a midfielder recording 50 career points and earning Team Captain, Most Improved Player, and All Academic Team Honors.  In addition, he was a four time strength award winner and still holds records at Bucknell for bench pressing 385 pounds and back squatting 575 pounds.

Nick was raised in Barrington, Illinois and attended high school at Loyola Academy.  At Loyola, Nick was All-Conference in football and lacrosse.  His high school lacrosse highlights include two Illinois High School Lacrosse Association State (IHSLA) Championships and leading the IHSLA in assists as a Junior.  In football, he was the single season record holder for receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns upon graduation.

"I am very excited to be part of the Lake Zurich Lacrosse program" said Nick. "I look forward to working with all of the coaches and players to prepare them for a very successful 2010 lacrosse season."
