Age and Weight Requirements
The beauty of Youth Football is that the sport matches up participants not just by their age but also by their size. The age and weight limits are strictly enforced for safety reasons. Players are certified as to their age and weight prior to the start of the season and are then weighed prior to each game to make sure that they still meet weight limits.
PLAYING AGE: Playing age is defined as the participant's age on August 1, 2009. For new participants an original birth certificate or a certified copy from their county of birth, a passport, or green card is required as proof of birth. LYFC must submit this document to the Conference for "Official Certification" purposes. All birth certificates or legal documents are returned after the first game of the season. Please note that notarized copies, photocopies, etc., are not acceptable. If the required proof of age is not submitted, your child will not be able to participate in the LYFC program.
OLDER-LIGHTERS: The Diablo Valley Youth Football Conference allows "Older-Lighters" at the Peewee and Jr. Midget levels. These are participants who cannot make the minimum weight in their age-designated division of play. The maximum number of Older-Lighters allowed are FOUR (4) per squad. The qualifying weights are listed to the right on the table below. For . After being weighed and evaluated by the head coach and staff, the head coach and athletic director will then decide which players will be designated as Older-Lighters.
WEIGHT REQUIREMENTS: The weight requirements listed below must be met at "Official Weigh-ins" and on the first game of the season. The weight limits increase by one pound for each week as the season progresses.

Practices
Practice begins on August 1, 2009 at Mendenhal Middle School. From August 1 to the first game of the season (Sept. 5, 2009), practice runs 5 nights a week from 6:00-8:00pm and is MANDATORY. After the first game, practices will be held 3 nights a week from 6:00-8:00pm and is also MANDATORY (times may change slightly as light fails).
Participants may only begin practice if we have received all required certification documents and fees, of particular importance is the physical card. The physical card must be on the card given out at sign-ups, it must be signed and dated by the reviewing physician in the current year and the name, address and telephone number of the doctor must be clearly stated.
The first 10 hours of football practice are conditioning only. The fitter a participant is, the less prone they are to injury. There is no exception to this rule.
Participant should bring and drink plenty of water at practices.
Football shoes should have rubber-molded cleats only.
Metal or screw-in cleats are strictly forbidden as a safety hazard.
Football Quotes:
"Between the innocence of boyhood and the dignity of man, we find a sturdy creature called a football player. Football players come in assorted weights, heights, jersey colors and numbers, but all football players have the same creed: 'To play every second of every minute of every period of every game to the best of their ability.'...
