Little League Age Cut-Off Date & Residency Rules
BASEBALL AGE A Player's "Little League age" is the player's age as of APRIL 30TH. For example, if the player turns 11 on July 31st, they are considered Little League age 11. However, if they turn 11 on August 1st, they are considered Little League age 10. LYNN VALLEY LITTLE LEAGUE BOUNDARIES Players wishing to play for Lynn Valley Little League MUST live within the designated boundaries. These include addresses with postal codes starting with V7J, V7K and parts of V7N. The strict enforcing of boudaries is a directive from Little League Canada. Players who live outside of our boundaries but who have played in the majors or above before 2001, AND who were residents within the boundaries when they started playing with Lynn Valley are excepted. If you have any questions about this, please check with a member of the LVLL Board of Directors.
RALLEY BALL DIVISION (Ages 5 & 6)
T-Ball, an instructional division with teams ranging from 9 to 14 players, is played on a small diamond – 40 feet from home plate to first base – and uses a special “soft” official size and weight ball. In T-Ball, as the name implies, the ball is hit from a stationary batting tee. Coaches are allowed on the field and usually parents participate at the bases letting players know where and when to run. Games are usually two innings long, with every player batting twice and all players participating in fielding at rotating positions. No score is kept for the game. The season begins in early April and consists of approximately 15 games played at Kilmer Park in the early evenings or on Saturdays.
Team jerseys and baseball caps are provided but players must have their own baseball glove.
Please note: Insurance concerns dictate that players must be turning 5 years old as of July 31 of the current season to qualify. League officials must verify the player's birth date, so please bring your child's birth certificate to the registration days, or include a photocopy if you register by mail.
Pee-Wee Division (Ages (6) 7 & 8)
Pee-Wee is a division mainly for 7 & 8 year olds, but 6 year olds who have played a year of t-ball may play pee-wee.
Pee-Wee is also an instructional division. Once again, a soft version of the official size and wight ball is used. The diamond is larger than T-Ball, with home plate to first base extending 50 feet. There are approximately 12 players per team. Players hit against a designated adult pitcher or a pitching machine. An inning ends when either three outs have been recorded or an entire team roster has batted. All players are rotated through the infield and outfield positions and the use of three extra outfielders is allowed. No scores are kept in this division.
The season, beginning in early April, consists of approximately 15 games played at Kilmer Park in the early evening or on Saturdays.
Team equipment, jerseys and caps are provided, but players must have their own gloves.
AA Division (Ages (8) 9 & 10)
This division is confined to players aged 9 or 10 and some 8 year olds whose skill level and maturity allow, and offers the player’s first taste of competitive ball.
All players in the division must attend an evaluation day and are assigned to teams in a manner which will balance the division as much as possible. Parents should realize that a balanced division takes precedence over player team preferences. The diamond is the same size as for Pee-Wee, with 50 foot base paths. For the first time, batters face player pitchers throwing an official baseball. No pitcher may pitch more than two innings per game. Each of the six innings end when either three outs have been recorded, the entire team roster has batted or a maximum of 5 runs have been scored. On defence, all players take the field, with three extra outfielders being permitted.
Individual game and team standings are recorded and at the conclusion of the regular season, there is a post-season tournament to determine the division championship.
The season, beginning in early April, consists of approximately 17 games played at Kilmer Park in the early evening or on Saturdays. Full team uniforms and baseball caps are provided. Jerseys and pants must be returned at the end of the season. Players must supply their own baseball glove, helmet, and if desired, their own rubber cleated athletic shoes.
National Minor Division (Ages 9, 10, 11, & 12)*
This division includes players aged 9, 10, 11 or 12 with some restrictions applying for 9 and 10 year olds. 11 and 12 year olds who to not play in the Majors Division are granted automatic admission to the National Minor Division. In addition, 9 and 10 year olds may also gain admission provided if they demonstrate they are ready at the two Minors Evaluation Days.
All players in the division are assigned to teams in a manner which attempts to balance out the division. Parents should realize that a balanced division takes precedence over player team preferences.
At this level, teams field a standard 9 player roster and the diamond is the size of an official Little League field 60 feet from home plate to first base. An official size and weight ball is used and with a few exceptions, official Little League rules prevail. Each of the six innings end when either three outs have been recorded, the entire roster has batted or a maximum of five runs have been scored (except for the final inning in which there is no scoring limit.) Each player is guaranteed a minimum playing time of three consecutive defensive innings. All players take a turn batting, even if they are not in the 9 player fielding line-up. A team has limits on the number of 12 year olds who may pitch during a given week.
Individual game and team standings are recorded and at the conclusion of the regular season, there will be a post-season tournament.
The season, beginning in late March, consists of approximately 17 games played at Kilmer Park in the early evening or on Saturdays. Full team uniforms and baseball caps are provided. Jerseys and pants must be returned at the end of the season. Players must supply their own baseball gloves and helmets. Rubber cleated athletic shoes are recommended.
* Please note: We encourage mature 9 and 10 year olds with good skills and athletic ability to attend the Majors try-outs. If selected, playing in the Majors will definitely aid their development. Even the process of trying out will be a good learning experience. If not selected for the Majors, players will still be able to participate in Minors Evaluation Days, which take place after the Majors teams are chosen. Please read the information about the majors division.
Major Division (Ages 9, 10, 11 & 12)
This is official Little League Baseball and represents the premier level of Lynn Valley Little League Baseball. Players are drafted into the Majors after they have successfully attended try-outs where coaches will evaluate each players skill level and maturity. Within each of the 6 inning games, each selected player is guaranteed a minimum of three consecutive defensive innings and, as of the 2002 season, majors teams will bat through the order as in minors. There are currently five teams, each with a
roster of twelve players.
The season, beginning in late March, consists of approximately 20 games played at Viewlynn Park in the early evening or on Saturdays. Strict guidelines governing innings pitched are enforced for all players and teams.
At the conclusion of the regular season, there will be a post-season tournament to determine the league championship. Players at the Majors level are eligible for All-Star try-outs for the sanctioned Little League post-season play. The All-Star Team participates in our District Tournament, and may earn its way to a Provincial Tourament, a National Tournament and, if as successful as our 1993 team, the Little League World Series Tournament in Williamsport Pennsylvania. Dedicated and qualified coaches focus on skill development, both offensively and defensively, while instilling a winning attitude and a sense of fair play. Both player and coach commit time and energy to the ideals of Little League and their teams development.
High quality uniforms and baseball caps are provided. Jerseys and pants must be returned at the end of the season. Players must supply their own baseball glove and helmet. Rubber cleated athletic shoes are recommended.
Please Note: While 9 year olds with exceptional skill and maturity levels are encouraged to try out for the majors, parents must be aware that this division is more competetive and intense, and the pitching is generally faster than in the minors. Some young players thrive on intense play while others are intimidated by it. While all players are guarunteed three innings in the field, it is the "rookies" each year who most often sub out for part of each game. You know your child better than anyone, so please talk about these things with your child before deciding where your youngster would be happiest playing.
