RALLY BALL PROGRAM
In 2007, under the leadership of Bob Hodgins and Chris Meyer, L.V.L.L. implemented a modified Rally Ball program. The program was met will overwelming success. For the 2008 season L.V.L.L. will be extending this program to the Pee Wee division. Please check with your coordinator for more information regarding the program.
Goals of the Rally Cap Program
- To create an environment in which children and adults can have fun with baseball.
- To teach baseball skills, rules, and strategy to our players.
- To model and teach competitiveness with an emphasis on good sportsmanship.
- To promote increased self-esteem among Rally Cap children and adults.
Structure of the Program in LVLL:
- The Rally Cap game structure will be applied in the T-ball division only.
- Peewee players will also be eligible to participate in Rally Cap Days, and to earn their “hat level”.
- Each Team coach/manager in T-ball and Peewee will be responsible for picking up Team Progress Sheets and Player Report Cards at the kiosk in the Kilmer concession on or before the scheduled Rally Cap Days.
- After completion of the stations by a Team, each Teach coach/manager will hand in a completed Team Progress Sheet and completed Player Report Cards at the kiosk in the Kilmer concession.
- Rally Cap hats will be distributed to each Team coach/manager for distribution to the individual players who have earned a new “hat level”.
Role of the Coaches:
- The Coaches are responsible for organizing the game portion of the sessions and to plan the practice portion of the sessions.
- The Coaches are encouraged to attend the League coaching clinics and to use the Getting Started Manual to help prepare practice sessions each time.
- Each Coach is asked to focus on the safety of the players at all times, including any practices and warm-ups. The key aspect of this level is to teach the players the basic FUNdamentals of the game of baseball.
Rally Cap Days:
- The League will schedule Rally Cap days on two Saturdays during the season, once in May and once in June, where all T-ball and Peewee players can participate and develop their skills.
- Each participant will be given an opportunity to earn their “hat level” on the Rally Cap Days. Only one hat will be handed out per participant on a Rally Cap Day. Color of hat is based on an average of the player’s skill level.
