NEW PRESIDENT
LYNN VALLEY L ITTLE LEAGUE IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE WE HAVE A NEW PRESIDENT.
2009 LVLL President’s Message
Another season of baseball in Lynn Valley is just around the corner. The 2009 season is a special one for Lynn Valley Little League, as we celebrate 50 years of baseball in Lynn Valley. We are planning some special events during the season to celebrate.
I would first like to thank Jeremy Thorp, who worked tirelessly during his two year term as LVLL President, a term which saw increasing numbers of kids playing baseball in Lynn Valley for the first time in a number of years. Jeremy remains on the Board as Past President and Coordinator for Juniors and Up. I look forward to continuing the positive development of our League while maintaining the strong history and tradition of the Lynn Valley Little League.
Our online registration is now open, and I encourage you to register your children as soon as possible. We will have an in person registration time on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Lynn Valley Centre, but our preference is for as many kids as possible to register online. Early online registration will assist the planning process for the Board and the division coordinators. Online registration will be open until midnight on January 31, 2009, after which date late fees will apply and your child may be placed on a waiting list.
As we have done in recent years, LVLL will continue to provide excellent training and assistance to our coaches, from T-ball to the higher divisions. Our annual coaches meeting will take place in early March 2009 (date and location to be confirmed), but we would appreciate if you could submit a coaches application as soon as possible if you are interested in coaching this season. We cannot run a successful Little League without our volunteers, and particularly our coaches.
LVLL will also continue to offer pre-season, spring break, and in-season team and individual development clinics for our players. Please check out our website at www.eteamz.com/lvll in the near future to get details on the pre-season clinics.
Majors tryouts and Juniors evaluations are scheduled for February 8 and 15, 2009. Minors skills assessments are scheduled for February 22 and March 1, 2009. All 8 year old players (except for those who choose to play in the Peewee division) will be assessed during the Minors skills assessments to determine the most suitable division for them. Please see the “Divisions” tab on the LVLL website for more information on the different age divisions.
The Rally Cap program has been a tremendous success in the T-ball and Peewee divisions, and we will continue to use the Rally Cap structure with an emphasis on FUNdamentals and the objective of keeping as many kids in Little League baseball for many years after Peewee.
The Little League season will officially start in early April, and run through the middle of June. Opening Day will be Saturday, April 18, 2009. Post-season all-star play will continue from mid-June through the end of July.
We have an energetic and enthusiastic Board of Directors to guide us and prepare everyone for the upcoming Little League season. However, remember that a successful season depends on the volunteers throughout the season. We are looking for coaches, assistant coaches, concession captains, umpires, and others to assist with the special events during the season. We are specifically interested in finding someone who has their “Food Safe” Certificate for assistance with the Kilmer Park Concession. We are also seeking out someone to take on the role of Registrar for the 2010 season, so please let me know if you are interested in that position.
I look forward to a wonderful season of Little League baseball in Lynn Valley.

9/10 COMPETE IN SEMI FINAL GAME IN DISTRICT PLAYOFFS
This year, the 9/10 year old Lynn Valley All-Stars (aka the Lynn Valley Donkeys) had a great run through the District 5 tournament, only to fall short in the playoff round. The team had excellent chemistry, and the boys had a great time getting ready and then playing in the tournament. The team also had a fantastic group of parents who volunteered extensive time in the concession and maintaining the field at Viewlynn Park during the course of the District tournament. The team was coached by Bob Hodgins and Jim Sweeney. The team finished the round-robin portion of the District tournament in first place, with a stellar 5-1 record, which included a 9-4 win over the eventual champions from Mount Seymour. The boys played an aggressive and smart style of baseball, and the defence was amazing all over the field. Unfortunately, the playoff games did not go our way from the beginning of the games, and it was difficult to change the momentum. However, the boys proudly represented Lynn Valley and finished third in the tournament.
Hee Haw, well done Lynn Valley Donkeys.
