2015 ALL STAR/SELECT SEASON WRAP AND UPCOMING EVENTS NOTICE

I hope everyone is having a great summer.

Instead of filling your in-box with multiple emails I thought I'd combine a number of things into one so please read through the entire text below as there are some important items/dates to note.

All Stars/Selects Teams Wrap
2015 was one of the most successful seasons for LVLL All Star and Selects teams on record...

8's Selects
Won the NVC-hosted Super 8's tourney in June and continued to practice and play some exhibition games. The future of LVLL All Stars looks bright based on this team's performance.

9's Selects
Missed out on making the the playoffs in LV's Canada Day tourney on a tiebreak. Many players continue to practice through the off-season in preparation for Fall Ball and the 2016 season.

9/10 All Stars
Lost in the Championship Game of the District 5 tournament to the eventual Provincial Champions from Highlands.

11's Selects
Missed playing the semi-final of a Forest Hills-hosted tournament on a tie-break and finished a respectable 2 - 2 against tough competition in a Whalley-hosted tournament. Played a total of 14 tourney and exhibition games during the post-season.

11/12 All Stars
Only the third LV Majors All Star team to win the D5 Championship since 1992. Ran into some tough competition at the Provincial Championships but represented LVLL proudly.

Juniors All Stars (combined with Forest Hills)
Played extremely well in Provincial Championships falling one run short of making the final two.

Seniors All Stars (combined with Mt. Seymour)

The Seniors played a best of three tournament against Whalley.  The team lost this tournament losing two games.  Whalley went on to the final game in the Senior Canadians

Bigs All Stars (D5 combined team)
LVLL's Cody Bailey helped this team make the Canadian Championships final game where they lost a tough game to the host team.

Congratulations to all players, coaches and thanks to all families for your support!

2015 LVLL Annual General Meeting - September 17th
Mark your calendars for this important event. More info to follow.

LVLL Board Openings
A number of long-serving LVLL board members are stepping down, which is leaving some big shoes to fill. Please consider joining and helping out with one of the following positions.

  • T-Ball/Rookies Divisions Coordinator
  • Registrar
  • Equipment Manager
  • Safety Officer
  • Communications
  • Tournaments Director/Coordinator

Retiring Board Members in these positions will work with new members to make for as seamless a transition as possible. Please contact LVLL President Jamie Bassett at jbassett@shaw.ca if you have any questions about joining the board and/or any of the openings.

Fall Ball 2015
LVLL will be coordinating its own Fall Ball Season, combining development with exhibition games with other associations. Look for registration details soon.

The Bullpen Jesse Penner Scholarship
As a token of his appreciation for LVLL's patronage over the years, The Bullpen Baseball School owner Fred Sabatine is once again offering a scholarship to an LVLL ball player who will be baseball aged 10, 11, or 12 during the 2016 season, and who would like to continue to develop his or her baseball skills by attending a weekly clinic at The Bullpen Baseball School facility in New Westminster starting from October through March.

If interested, please have your child write a brief letter explaining why they feel they should receive the scholarship, or a story (fiction or non-fiction) about baseball. It could be something as simple as explaining what they love about baseball or what playing the game means to them.

Please send these letters to info@lvll.ca by September 15th.

That's all for now...enjoy the rest of the summer!
