BSFLuxembourg: News
Hedgehogs national champion
The 2011 season is over. After all luxemburgish teams were held out of the german playoffs, all teams were focusing on the national championship. After the Cowboys looked for long stretches of the season as a sure lock for a national finals spot, they fell into a tie with the Red Sappers on the last day, setting up a one game elimination game, that they lost. The club from the south side qualified for the national championship games for the first time in their short history. In a best-of-three series, the Hedgehogs proved to be too much for the club from Dudelange, cruising to two lopsided victories and earning so to their record ninth championship title. Slavazza from Beckerich wins the MVP award as well as the pitching and batting titles, while the Red Sappers produce their first Rookie of the year, award clinched by their young pitcher Peña (all the season stats are updated on the site). Congratulations!

Teams are midway through the championship. After a 5-4 walk-off win by the Red Sappers over the Cowboys, the race for a national championship finals spot is wide open again, as both teams can still earn a berth to face the current champion. The Beckerich Hedgehogs, that lead the luxemburgish regular championship, are also involved in the thick of a tight race for the playoffs in the german championship. After a couple of losses to Trier and Saarbrücken, the team from the Grand Duchy fell to third place of their division and will need a very strong finish to make a third straight trip to the playoffs and have a shot at defending their title of 2010. Season kicked off
During this first month of competition, teams could already unveil part of their potential. Dudelange had experienced a precious off-season with lots of recruiting, and it showed off in their first games. Although they lost a rough one against the Hedgehogs in their first game, they came within 1 run to win their second game in Beckerich. Having young cornerstones in their lineup, they are poised to further improve and definitely will have a shot to compete for a place in the national finals. The Hedgehogs had lost some pieces over the winter, but a couple of younger studs stepped in to keep their level high. They'll still be tough to beat, especially since their pitching delivered in their first appearances. The Cowboys are looking forward to June to state how they are going to respond on the field to a potentially talented roster, as they focus their efforts on the luxemburgish championship only. After one month of activity, the MVP race is as close as it has been for years. Three time runner-up Breton leads the MVP points so far, followed at second place by Melmer and at third place by 8 times MVP Slavazza. Trailing by very few points only, we find Cosme, Gaudnek, Peña, Neville and Valenzuela.

Championship 2011
The luxemburgish national championship is at the door. In a couple of weeks, our teams will start their official regular season games at the quest of a spot for the national Final Series. After the team of the Luxembourg Eagles, that was considered as a potential strong addition to our tournament, had to postpone their entry by a year, four teams will contend more competitively than ever for the national crown. Important additional talent through new foreign players and a new dynamism at managing positions are at the basis of high hopes in Dudelange and Schieren for detroning the defending champions of Beckerich, that lost some good pieces of their lineup during the off-season, in 2011.
Check the schedule in our agenda and don't hesitate to attend our games and cheer for your favourite teams and players!
