HISTORY OF LUFKIN YOUTH BASEBALL


Lufkin Youth Baseball Association was formed in the early 1950's with Eugene Brookshire being the first President.  The continued success of the league organization is contributed to several early pioneers.  These People paved the way for others to follow a much easier road.  Lufkin Youth Baseball is the foundation of the baseball success in our area growing with the everlasting spirit and determination of Pitser Garrison, after whom our field was named. Along with Eugene Brookshire, the first president of the then newly formed baseball league, together with Bill Windsor, Buck Bradley, Cecil Muckelroy, Roy Sinclair, Irma Franklin, Bud Maddux, Judy Maddux, Bill Berry, Opal and Red Patrick, Reba and W.Z. Hutson, Shirley and Dale Hunter, Dick Sims, W.A. Dempsey, George Griffith, Kenneth Welch, Bubba Holland, Sandy Bate, Bubba Wood, Bob Kelley, Charles and Ruth Cowart, Meb Todd, Steve Day, Ray and Paulette Turner and countless others our field of competitiveness, decipline and determination has certainly been brought forth.

Some of the significant achievements for Lufkin Youth Baseball Association, Inc. participants are:

*  Lufkin Pony Boys Won the 1957 Little League World Series
*  Lufkin Pony Grad Won the 1959 Little League World Series
*  Lufkin (13 and 14) Won  the 1980 Dixie World Series
*  Haylen Hardy - 1984 holds the record for the most Grand Slam homeruns in the Dixie  Boys World Series (1)
*  Lufkin Pre-Majors Won the 1982, 1983, and 1990 World Series.
*  Shane Tatum - 1990 holds the record for the most hits in a Dixie Pre-Majors World Series.
*  Chad Alexander - 1990 holds the record for the most home runs in a Dixie Pre-Majors World Series (2).
*  Lufkin, Texas holds the record for the most home runs by a team 1981 (3)>
*  Lufkin, Texas holds the record for the most Pre-Majors world Series Won by a league - 1982, 1983, 1990
*  Lufkin Majors Won the World Series in 1977, 1984, 1985, and 1993
*  Record for the most hits ini a Dixie Majors World Series is held by Chris Cauley - 1983 (4),  and Jeff Jordan - 1984 (4), and Shane Dixon - 1980 (4).
*  Most 2 Base hits in a World Series is held by Eddie Mathews - 1983 (4)
*  Chris Cauley - 1984 hold the record for the most strileouts by a pitcher in a Dixie Majors World Series (16).
*  Lufkin, Texas holds the record for the most Dixie Majors World Series Won by a league - 1977, 1984, 1985, 1993
*  Ron Demsey played in the first National Amateur All-Star Baseball Tournament.  Ron Won the Big Stick Top Hitter Trophy and $2000 for Dixie Baseball - 1993.
*  Robert Keens played int he second National Ameteur All-Star Baseball Tournament - 1994
*  Bud Maddux hold the record for the most Winning Coach with 20 Dixie State Championships and 9 World Series Championships and 1 National Super Series Championship>
*  Jeff Jordan and Brad Hunter played on 5 World Series Championship Teams
*  Lufkin Seniors (17-19) Won the 2002 Dizzy Dean World Series
*  Lufkin 13 year olds Won the 2002 Dizzy Dean World Series
*  Lufkin High School Division Won the 2003 Dizzy Dean World Series
*  Lufkin 14 year olds Won the 2003 Dizzy Dean World Series
*  Lufkin 14 year olds Won the 2003 Super Series National Championship
*  Lufkin High School Division Won the 2004 Dizzy Dean World Series
*  Lufkin 16 year olds were Runner-up in the 2004 Dizzy Dean World Series
*  Lufkin 16 year olds won the Sportsmanship Award in the 2004 Dizzy Dean World Series
*  Lufkin 12 year olds were Runner-up in the 2005 Dizzy Dean World Series
*  Lufkin 14 year olds were Runner-up in the 2005 Dizzy Dean World Series
*  Lufkin 16 year olds placed 3rd at the 2005 Dizzy Dean World Series
*  Lufkin 12 year olds Won the 2006 Super Series National Championship
*  Lufkin 13 year olds Won the 2006 Super Series National Championship
*  Lufkin 14 year olds Won the 2006 Dizzy Dean World Series
*  Lufkin 14 year olds won the Sportsmanship Award in the 2007 Dizzy Dean World Series
*  Lufkin 10 year olds placed 3rd at the 2007 Dizzy Dean World Series
*  Lufkin 14 year olds placed 3rd at the 2007 Dizzy Dean World Series
*  Lufkin 16 year olds Won the 2007 Dizzy Dean World Series
*  Lufkin 14 year olds were Runner-up in the 2009 Dizzy Dean World Series
*  Lufkin 16 year olds Won the 2011 Dizzy Dean World Series
*  Lufkin 13 year olds Won the 2012 Dizzy Dean Worls Series
*  Lufkin's Bud Maddux has Managed 20 State Championships and 10 World Series Championships to make him the Coach with the Most Wins in the history of Lufkin Youth Sports.
