Jackie Robinson Breaking Barriers: In Sports, In Life Program. In 1947 Jackie Robinson broke barriers to become the first African-American to play Major League Baseball. He attributed his success to 9 basic values that helped him overcome the obstacles in his life. Each week of the RBI season one or two of these values are highlighted. Coaches and players discuss how these values may play a role in their lives. Breaking Barriers is an official youth program of Major League Baseball and is endorsed by the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Please consider becoming an RBI sponsor or making a tax-deductible donation to RBI. The RBI program has low registration fees to allow boys of all backgrounds to participate. Since these fees do not cover the costs of the program, sponsorships and donations are needed. See the Handouts link for more information.
