Searcy Livewires Beat LRFC 95s on Successful Penalty Shot
The LRFC 95s for the most part controlled possession and out shot their opponent 13-3 in their Arkansas State League game with the Searcy Livewires, but still ended up on the short end of a 1-0 loss to the girls in orange. The Livewires fought hard and did enough defensively to secure the win after a successful penalty shot and pretty much getting the best of LRFC for the second time in as many meetings dating back to a 0-0 tie in the Arkansas State Cup last season. Blue showed well in every aspect of their game except finishing up front by scoring on their numerous offensive attacks. Seven girls took shots for Blue led by Natalie with 5 shots, Meghan (2), Kaitlin (2), Cat (1), Kayla (1), Melissa (1), and Kate (1). Sara took one corner kick for LRFC which Kaitlin was able to control and take a shot on goal. Defensively, Kate and Zoe were credited with clears to thwart Livewire attacks on the LRFC goal but little could be done when Sara was called for a foul when she and a Searcy forward went down together inside the Searcy box. Rarely does a team not capitalize on free shots awarded inside the box and Searcy did not disappoint their fans when they capitalized on the LRFC miscue. Nasreen was unable to get her hands on the ball and Searcy secured the final 1-0 margin over Blue with their only shot that reached the net over the 70 minute game. Nasreen and Caitlin along with the back line of Sara, Anna, Zoe, and Kate did very well limiting the offensive attacks of Searcy to just 3 shots. Nasreen made one stop while Caitlin had two during their split time in front of the net. Overall it was a very competitive game which hopefully Blue will be able to avenge in their next State League game with the Livewires in just over a week.
