LRFC 95's Succumb 3-0 to "Stacked" Ft. Smith Express
LRFC's second game of the tournament was against the Ft. Smith Express, a team they beat handily (5-1) the week before in an Arkansas State League game. However, when the teams took the field it became rather obvious to the LRFC fans that this team was not the same as the one Blue played the previous week. Ft. Smith elected to call upon the NWA Lightening to send 3-4 of their better players to assist them during the tournament. Considering the outcome and who made the plays for the Express it looked like LRFC was playing NWA with a supporting cast from Ft. Smith. Obviously, Ft. Smith secured the best players from the Lightening and it made all the difference in the outcome of the game. Based upon the previous weekends game between the two teams no one would have given the Express a chance to win had they not recruited the help they did from NWA, including their own coach. Nonetheless, LRFC competed well for most of the game and gained some extra motivation for what quite likely would end up being the championship match since the game featured the best teams from both pools in the U15 age bracket. The Express, much to the chagrin of the LRFC team and fans, enjoyed a 3-0 victory to stay undefeated in their two Saturday games on the pitch. LRFC dropped to 1-1, but still remained alive in their quest to play for the championship on Sunday afternoon.
