The LaPorte Family YMCA has started registration for its youth girls
basketball program. Parents may register their child during any open
hours at the front desk.
The program includes divisions for kindergarten/first grade,
second/third grade and fourth/fifth grade. The kindergarten/first-grade
division includes a weekly scrimmage preceded by half an hour of
instruction. The second/third-grade division includes a weekly game and
one weekday practice. The fourth/fifth-grade division includes a weekly
game and two weekday practices.
The season begins with a skills clinic on Saturday, Oct. 31.
Practices start the week of Nov. 2 and games begin Saturday, Nov. 14,
and run through Saturday, Dec. 19.
The cost is $42 per child for YMCA members and $60 per child for
non-members. All players receive a YMCA basketball t-shirt and awards.
The league has been selected as an affiliate of the Jr. WNBA
program, which provides valuable instructional materials for players,
coaches, parents and officials. Participants are also eligible for the
Jr. WNBA recognition programs.
The league needs coaches for the upcoming season.
