Youth Boys Basketball registration underway
The LaPorte Family YMCA starts registration for its youth boys basketball program on Nov. 2. Parents may register their child during any open hours at the front desk.
The program includes divisions for kindergarten/first grade, second/third grade and fourth/fifth grade. The kindergarten/first-grade division includes a weekly scrimmage preceded by half an hour of instruction. The second/third-grade division includes a weekly game and one weekday practice. The fourth/fifth-grade division includes a weekly game and two weekday practices.
The season begins with a skills clinic on Saturday, Jan. 9, at the YMCA. The K/1 division meets from 9-10 a.m., the 2/3 division meets from 10-11 a.m. and the 4/5 division meets from 11 a.m.-noon. Practices start the week of Jan. 11 and games begin Saturday, Jan. 23, and run through Saturday, Feb. 27.
The cost is $42 per child for YMCA members and $60 per child for non-members. All players receive a YMCA basketball t-shirt and awards.
The league has been selected as an affiliate of the Jr. NBA program, which provides valuable instructional materials for players, coaches, parents and officials. Participants are also eligible for the Jr. NBA recognition programs.
The league needs coaches and referees for the upcoming season.
