LPLL All Stars Introduction to All Stars and Tournament Play Traditionally, Lower Perk has entered teams into a number of Little League sanctioned tournaments. A tournament is typically held for each age group above 9 years old. The tournaments in which Lower Perk typically participates in are: BASEBALL The International Tournament: This tournament culminates in the Little League World Series in Williamsport. The team selected represents the best of Lower Perk. Traditionally this team is comprised of primarily 12 year olds. The 11 Year Old International Tournament: This is an International tournament. LPLL will send its "11 Year Old" team to this tournament. The Kline Tournament: This is a District-wide tournament. LPLL will send a "12 Year Old" team (which may also include 11 year olds). The Al Patton Tournament: This is a State-wide tournament. Traditionally this team is comprised of 10 year olds. The 9 Year Old All Star Invitational: This is a District-wide tournament. LPLL typically sends a single team at this age level. The Major League Team Tournament (formerly the "Bob Jones Major League Team Tournament"): This is a District wide tournament. Traditionally, the first and second place teams of the Major Leagues are sent to this tournament (as the playoff schedules allow). SOFTBALL The International Tournament: This tournament culminates in the Little League World Series in Williamsport. The team selected represents the best of Lower Perk. Traditionally this team is comprised of primarily 12 year olds. The 11 Year Old International Tournament: This is an International tournament. If player numbers are sufficient to have an International Team and an 11 year-old team, LPLL will send an “11 Year Old” team to this tournament. The 9-10 Year Old State Tournament: This is a State-wide tournament. Traditionally this team is comprised of 10 year olds. Manager Selection Managers of Tournament Teams are selected by the LPLL Board of Directors. Candidates submit their names to the Board at the initiation of the selection process. Interviews with the candidates may occur at the discretion of the Board either formally or informally, regardless, each candidate will be afforded equal opportunity before the Board. Managers will not only be selected on the basis of their managerial skills, but also on their ability to represent Lower Perk in a "professional" manner. Player Selection Players interested in participating in the tournament teams shall participate in either a series of clinics or a player evaluation. At a minimum, interested players must be willing to commit to attending all practices and games if selected to participate on a tournament team. Each manager of the league, from which the players are selected, is expected to identify and rank the top ten players interested in playing on the tournament team. A manager may not select players from their regular season team. The top pick of each manager will be assigned 10 points; the second pick will be assigned 9 points, and so on. The ten players receiving the highest number of votes will be chosen for the team. In addition, the selected manager of the tournament team shall have up to four discretionary picks. These picks may represent the next four players in the voting process or they may be selected to fulfill specific roles on the team. If an insufficient number of managers exist in a league, the Board will assign additional evaluators. In-House All Stars In addition to tournament teams, two in-house All Star teams are selected at each playing level from the National League East through the American League. These intramural teams at each level compete in a best of three game series. Player Selection - Each regular season manager shall select players to participate on the in-house all star team. The number of players to be selected shall be determined by the player agent. Players selected to participate on tournament teams may not be selected for an in-house all star team. Players "playing down" for any reason are not eligible for selection to participate on an in-house all star team. Manager Selection - Regular season managers and coaches volunteer to fulfill these roles during the in-house all star tournaments. In the event that there is more than one candidate for a given position, the selection shall be made by the player agent. All Star Participation In preparation for the selection of players for LP's teams which will participate in the District 27 All-Star Tournaments, all 9 - 12 year-old players are invited to attend the all-star evaluations. Players will be notified of the evaluation times and dates by their managers. Whenever possible, the times and dates will also be posted on this website. Understand that attendance at the evaluations is not a prerequisite to making the All Star team nor does your participation guarantee you making a team. However, if your child cannot attend the clinics and would like to be considered, kindly notify your manager. It should also be noted that participation in any other baseball program (i.e. AAU) has NO bearing on the selection of the Lower Perk teams. The All Star teams will be selected by a vote of the current division managers. As you consider your child's participation in this process, the league respectfully request that you consider the following: The league will ask for a commitment from you and your child. Practices will begin around June 15th and the game schedules could take us through the end of July. Careful consideration should be given to this commitment, since there will be 3 to 5 practices per week until the game schedule begins. Once games begin, dates and times will be dictated by whether the team wins or loses. Failure to attend any combination of 3 games or mandatory practices could mean removal from the team. Also, understand that there are minimum playing requirements at these levels. The manager is not obligated to play your son/daughter for any more that the minimum requirements. Also, please note, once play begins for an LPLL tournament team, players may not participate in any other youth baseball or softball program (AAU, CP, ARA, SF, etc.) until their team is eliminated from the Little League tournament. Games could be played at any of the surrounding District 27 complexes, including Lower Perk, Berwyn/Paoli, Devon-Strafford, Pottsgrove, Pottstown, Coventry, Upper Providence, Lower Merion, Exton, Great Valley, and Chester Valley. Any team that should win the District 27 tournament will play in the Sectional Tournament at a site to be named later. To offset a portion of the cost of uniforms, equipment, and entry fees, the league requires each all-star player for a $25.00 participation fee. Please direct all questions concerning these evaluations to info@lpll.org. 2008 All-Star Teams Announced! Congratulations to the players representing LPLL in the 2008 All Star Tournaments! LPLL Wins State Championship! Here is the complete recap from the 2003 State Championship daily web postings: LP Game 6 (7/31; Tournament Game 9): LOWER PERK TAKES THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!!! Nick Sun went the distance in Thursday night's 13-8 victory over a strong Hermitage team. Once again, the bats were hot for LP as we jumped to an early lead and held our ground. While it was yet another example of the entire team contributing, the offensive highlights included two home runs by Christian Walker and a ground rule double over the center field fence by Mike Doty. Regional play begins for LP on Monday 8/4 in Bristol, CT. LP Game 5 (7/30; Tournament Game 8): Led by the pitching of Tim Cooney, our All Stars handed Hermitage their first loss, forcing the State Championship to be decided by tomorrow's final game. In the 9-0 LP win, Cooney also hit two home runs; Todd Rubendall also ripped a four bagger. Next game: Thursday 7/31 at 6 pm LP Game 4 (7/29; Tournament Game 7): The 8 runs scored in the first inning when LP batted around were enough to lead to a victory over Keystone. Solid offense and pitching by Christian Walker and Todd Rubendall kept Keystone at bay to take LP into the final round of the State tournament. Final Score 10 - 6. Next game: Wednesday 7/30 at 6 pm vs. Hermitage. LP Game 3 (7/28; Tournament Game 6): Behind the strong pitching of Nick Sun, LP defeated Ingomar National by ten runs in the fifth. We advance to the finals of the losers' bracket. Game time: Tuesday 7/29 at 6 pm. LP Game 2 (7/27) summary from SCLL: "Lower Perkiomen All-stars, trailing Lehigh 2-1 in a game called on account of severe weather with two out in the 5th inning [with runners on first and second], was declared the winner of the contest by forfeit. Lehigh's forfeit was declared by league officials for failing to make the required, mandatory substitutions of all eligible players by the end of the regulation 4-inning game, to which the game reverted (2-1 at the end of 4) upon being called by officials. Lower 'Perk' advances to play Ingomar in an elimination game on Monday evening, 7pm." LP Game 1 (7/26) summary: Despite home runs by Mike Lubanski and Nick Sun, LP drops the first game in the series 7-2 to Ingomar National.
