What are the GCLC Bandits?

The sport of lacrosse is still relatively new in our area, so most players have limited experience.  Since the spring lacrosse season only lasts February to April, the Bandits are perfect opportunity for players to stay conditioned and enhance their skills even further during the summer.  The 2012 summer season will offer 3 teams (U19, U17, U15).

Bandits will attend 3 Tournaments.

June 2-3 Tallahassee, FL 2012 Seminole Cup

June 9-10 Gainsville, FL 2012 Sunshine State Games http://www.flasports.com/images/pdf_files/2011SSG/alachua/laxcompetition.pdf

June 16-17, Palm Coast, FL 2012 Father's Day

How are the Bandits teams decided?

Each team will have a roster of 25 players and up to 3 coaches.  All coaches are volunteers and will not receive a salary or travel compensations during the 2012 season.  Initially the Bandits will comprise of invitations to players from their respective league’s Head Coach.  Each league will select up to 5 players  per age category (U15 may be reduced to 3, depending on participation of leagues).  The registration may be opened to other players if the roster has not filled up upon completion of the selection process.

For the Summer Bandits program: Boys are divided by both age and ability (anyone can play up depending on size and skill), This divisions are slightly different than regular season US Lacrosse guidelines because this is the Tournament Rules divisions for the Tournament we will be attending.

 Who are the Bandit’s coaches?

FIRST, THEY ARE ALL NON PAID VOLUNTEERS!  All of our head coaches have experience coaching youth, middle school, high school and/or college lacrosse squads. We also are always recruiting volunteer assistant coaches. The coaches will apply their on-field and sidelines experience to provide an enriching learning experience for all players.

Why is Lower Alabama Lacrosse (LAL) League handling the administration process?

LAL volunteered to take on the admin function for the 2012 season.  The GCLC has not yet formed its own admin staff at this time.  LAL will handle the registration, issuance of funds and all other admin duties for the 2012 season.

What do the fees include ($250.00)?

Each player will receive a pair of uniform shorts, a uniform jersey, a shooter shirt, and a set of helmet stickers. The registration fees also go towards the Tournament fees other miscellaneous costs to run the program including insurance, balls, goals, cones, maintenance, first aid kits, electricity for lights, etc.

 What are my travel responsibilities?

All players and families are responsible for paying for their own meals, lodging, travel, and any other associated costs related to attending the tournaments.

What are my supervision responsibilities?

Including practices, games and tournaments, parents/guardians are responsible for getting their players to and picking up their players from all designated meeting areas on time. Coaches will be responsible for relaying this information to the parents. Once the players are released by the coaches from the fields, players are then under the responsibility of their parents/guardians.

What are the equipment requirements?

We strive to be cost-effective for our families, so we do not require that new equipment be purchased. We do recommend that all our players have a white helmet (preferably with white trim)

How is information shared with the families and players?

Our two main sources of communications are email and website.

Email (bayhawkskeds@gmail.com)

Your email addresses will be assigned to a general GCLC Bandits google group and to a team specific google group. Both Bandit administration and coaches will be sending you emails regularly so be sure to check your email often.

Our website has both team specific pages and a general home page each with an up-to-date info section. It’s a good idea to check the web for questions about same-day issues or changes. This is also where tourney info, schedules and forms are found.

www.alabamalacrosseleague.org

How often are there changes to the practice and tournament schedule?

Not often, but we will be sure to contact all players by email and update our website
