Owls Win Rain Shortened Mid-May Classic USSSA NIT in Cincinnati, OH
The Owls won their second USSSA qualifier of the 2008 season this past weekend in Cincinnati, OH at the rain shortened Mid-May Classic NIT.  Weather led to the cancellation of all games on Saturday.  All teams would play their original 2 game pool schedule on Sunday and a winner would be determined based on USSSA tie-breaker criteria.  The Owls faced off against the Butler County Bombers in the first game and played to a 5-5 tie in regulation 6 innings to take the game into the Ohio Shootout Tiebreaker rules which puts the last two outs on 1st and 2nd to begin each inning.  Both teams held firm in the 7th, however, in the 8th inning, the Owls scored 3 in the top of inning and held the Bombers scoreless with good pitching and some good defensive play to capitalize on some Bomber base running errors.  The second game was not so close, however, as the Owls jumped on the JB Yeager Nationals and cruised to a 10-1 win and claim to first place in the tournament edging out the Kentucky Buccaneers on runs allowed - Owls giving up 6, Buccaneers 9.
