League Finals 10/29

SUNSET LEAGUE CHAMPIONS
Congratulations to Garrett McAllister, Daniel Lamm, Kyle Frost, Seth Berger, Brad Kachigan, Christian Charsagua and Erik Rini for winning the 1st ever Sunset League Cross Country Title.  They improved their team time by 40 seconds from the Preview Meet.  All five of our scorers finished in the top 12 and scored just 38 points.  Way to go.  Next up:  CIF prelims on Nov 12.

Varsity Girls led by Rachel Gross, Hilary Greene and Jenne Schefski improved their team time by an incredible 1:40, and showed us the good things to come in the coming years.  Keep working hard girls and you will see the payoff.

Other top runners were Jason Imamoto who broke the 17 minute barrier for the first time on the 2nd hardest course.  Great Job.  Kasey Ahlstrom also ran under 17:00.  These two paced the JV team to a 2nd place finish and also earned alternate status for CIF.  Caitlin Miller continued her late season surge running in the low 22:00 and Leah Martin led the Frosh/ Soph girls running a great race.

Thank you to Harry Goldman and David Ritchie for acting as our Parent Volunteers.

Coach Howard

Congrats Garrett, Daniel & Coach Howard

Apparel orders due to Coach Howard Thursday!
Any further orders for warm-ups, sweatshirts, polo shirts, long-sleeve t-shirts, booster t-shirts, caps and visors are due to Coach Howard at practice, Thursday, September 8. Be sure to turn in an order form (see Handouts at left) and check payable to "LAHS CC Booster Club". These items are all custom-ordered and printed / embroidered so we need to get the orders in.

Coach Howard would like all athletes to have warm-ups -- it's cold at 6:30 am on meet days!

Parent Meeting - Mandatory for all XC Athletes!
Mandatory Parent Cross Country Booster Club Meeting - Wednesday, August 31, 2005
6:30 PM at Los Alamitos High School PAC

Ice Cream Social for Cross Country Athletes held outside the PAC

Did you know the first Cross Country meet is September 10? This sport hits the ground running (pun intended), so we need to get started before school starts.

Each athlete needs at least one parent to attend the Kick-Off meeting. We will be introducing the program, collecting booster fees and uniform deposits, distributing uniforms and giving you the opportunity to order warmups and sweatshirts.

Bring two separate checks payable to LAHS CC Booster Club. The first check for $40 is a uniform deposit that will be returned at the end of the season when your athlete’s uniform is turned in. The second check will be for program fees and optional apparel orders. The order form is available by clicking on "Handouts" on the left menu.

We have a large program with nearly 100 athletes, and a very small Booster Club Board. We need you! We are looking for volunteers for the following: Pasta Party Hosts (starting Sept 9), Assistant Webmaster, Stat Keeper, Photographers, Banquet Committee, and Taste for Los Al Coordinator. We also need donations for meet day drinks and snacks, pasta parties and Silent Auction items. Signups will be at the meeting.

Plan to be there! bring your checkbook, calendar, athlete and any questions you may have. We'll get you in and out as quickly as possible.

Cross Country is a blast -- come support your child and the program. See you on the 31st!

Taste for Los Al - October 15, 5:30 - 10 pm
Thank you all for your support; XC parents are the best!

Our Silent Auction was a success, thanks to the many parents who donated items and to Becky McAllister and Kathy Berger, who both put in many hours of work.

We hope you had a great time at the 'party' and look forward to next year!

Update - Last chance for orders
Update - orders should be complete! Enjoy wearing your cool LosAl XC gear!

We will make one more Cross Country clothing order - if you want to place an additional order, print out an order form (from the Handouts link on the left), and turn it in to Coach Howard no later than Friday, September 23. Attach a check for the correct amount, payable to "Los Al CC Boosters."

The first order of sweatshirts, tshirts and hats have been distributed to the athletes. Warmups and polo shirts are being embroidered and should be ready this week.

Family Pumpkin Pasta Party
Special thanks to Char Ahlstrom, who provided a great pasta, salad, garlic bread & dessert dinner for the team and their families! Thanks also to Coach Howard and all the parents who helped; this was a really fun event.

XC Window Stickers Available
Did you get your car window sticker? If not, email Karen.

Post Season Practice

All athletes have earned some time off, varsity boys have earned at least two more weeks of practice :).  We will still meet at the track at 1:45 for roll.  However for the next two weeks they will not need to dress out.  They are still free to dress out but they will not be required to participate.  They must be there for roll, if they are not there it will affect their grade.  They will be released at 2:30.  We will start a new schedule on Nov 14.  More to come.

Great Job Griffins!

Sunset League Preview Meet 9/30/05
SUNSET PREVIEW RESULTS

Great Job to all yesterday at the meet.  Everyone ran extremely well and exceeded my expectations.  Boys Varsity led by Garrett McAllister and Daniel Lamm finished the day 5-0 and as a team they ran 2 1/2  minutes faster than last years league preview.  Boys JV led by David Ritchie and Michael Clay also finished 5-0 and they improved their team time by over 3 minutes.  Girls Varsity led by Hilary Greene and Rachel Gross finished in contention for a CIF Spot.  Other top runners were Paul Bailey, Leah Martin and Nicole Feliciano.  I hope that you can see your hard summer work paying off.  Keep up the hard work and you will see yourselves even faster by league finals.  I hope you all had fun at the dance last night.  Now it is time to get serious again.

Way to Go Griffins.
-Coach Howard

Wednesday, 9/21 Meet Cancelled!
The lower level meet had to be cancelled due to a scheduling conflict in Central Park.  It will not be rescheduled.   I will schedule some practices at Central Park to allow us to learn the course.  I just found out last night.  Sorry for any inconvenience.   --Coach Howard

OC Championships

Great Job at OC Championships. The team ran very well.  Many of the runners ran their personal bests of the year.  Special congratulations to Garrett McAllister and Daniel Lamm for achieving 1st team all county honors.  Kyle Frost earned 2nd team all county.  Way to go.  Mt Sac is this week.  We will leave very early.  Be ready.

MT SAC Invite

Great Job today at Mt. Sac!!! Many athletes ran PR's for the season, and many more at or near their best time.  Great Job.  Boys Varsity placed 3rd in their race, as well as did the JV boys.   Top runners of the day were
Rachel Gross with 20:17 to lead the Varsity Girls.
Garrett McAllister ran an easy 15:35 finished 2nd in his race
Paul Bailey ran a 16:46 also placing 2nd in his race
Caitlin Miller ran a 22:46 one of her fastest times of the season.
David Ritchie placed 6th and Michael Clay placed 8th to lead the JV boys.

We seem to be peaking at the right time.  Keep up the hard work and keep up the excitement as we enter in to our last week of the season.
