11U All Stars win 2012 District 44 Championship

CONGRATULATIONS LOS ALTOS 11U ALL STARS, DISTRICT 44 CHAMPIONS!

The team played in the Section 5 tournament hosted by District 44 and Moreland Little League.  For more information, see the District 44 website and the latest Palo Alto Daily News article.

The Los Altos Little League 10 & 11 year old All Stars won the District 44 championship on July 12 by beating Santa Clara Westside 10-7 at Santa Clara Homestead's Little League field.  The team advances to the CA Sectionals with a chance to play for the Northern California championship.

The team lost its first game in this double elimination format and then proceeded to win six games in a row including two straight wins over Santa Clara Westside who was undefeated in the tournament before playing Los Altos in the championship round.

The first round loss was to defending champion Serra in extra innings by a score of 6-4.  The team then bounced back by beating Santa Clara Homestead 9-3, beginning its journey back through the loser's bracket.   Los Altos then beat Santa Clara Briarwood 13-5, setting up a rematch with Serra who also suffered a loss and thus was also playing in the loser's side of the bracket.

The team avenged its opening round loss by beating Serra 18-8 in just five innings.  The tournament recognizes a mercy rule whereby if either team is up by ten runs after the fourth inning at bat by the opponent, the game is automatically over.  In the championship game of the loser's bracket, the locals enjoyed another mercy rule win, this time beating Moreland 10-0 on Moreland's home field in four innings.

The win over Moreland earned Los Altos the right to play Santa Clara Westside who only needed to win one of the two games in the championship round to earn the District 44 title.  That was not to be as the Los Altos All Stars won game one 5-2 the night before their 10-7 championship win.

The team was led offensively throughout the tournament by Nathan Puentes, Nathan Nakamitsu, Ryan Baum and Ben Parker.  Puentes had a homer and five runs batted in the championship game and Parker contributed a solo home run in the same inning.  The pitching was led by Baum and Parker who shared the majority of the workload over the course of the three week long tournament.

Team members:  Andrew Hiebert, Nathan Nakamitsu, Nathan Puentes, Ryan Baum, Ben Parker, Matthew Adams, Casey McConnell, Austin Townsend, Wyatt Dincel, Case Herbert, George Fisher, Ryan Burton, Jared Kern, and Brandon Fan.

Coaches: Mark Adams (manager), Dave Hiebert (assistant coach), and Cory Puentes (assistant coach)

Congratulations to the Juniors All Stars, District 44 finalists

Congratulations to the 9U tournament team, District 44 CHAMPIONS!

The Los Altos Little League 8-9 All Stars won the inaugural District 44 title played June 25 – July 3 and hosted by Campbell Little League.

The team compiled a 4-0 record with several 10 run mercy rule victories.  Extra base hits by Grant Dincel, Eric Burton and Philip Martin fueled the offense, while Brock Susko and Jack Eschenbach provided clutch defense at 3rd base and pitching.  Catchers Matthew Evans and Brennan Hanley threw out many base runners to stifle opponents’ offensive threats.

In the semi-final game against Mountain View, a mercy rule 11-1 victory, Alex Donovan pitched 3 solid innings and the entire team had great hitting and fielding.

In the final against Santa Clara Briarwood, Los Altos gave up a quick 4 runs in the top of the 1st, but countered with 5 runs in both the 1st and 2nd innings with RBI doubles by Aaron Parker and Thomas Marron.  (Note that the tournament initially began with unlimited runs per innings; but for the semi-final and final, a 5 run limit was implemented.)  Jamie Baum entered the game in relief in the 1st inning and pitched 5 strong innings with help from Kevin Andrews in the 6th to secure a 13-8 victory.

The team was coached by Peter Baum, Tom Marron and Carl Eschenbach.

2012 Tournaments

Friendship Tournaments with Los Altos-Mountain View Pony and Mountain View Little League were played June 18 for the 10U and 9U teams, and June 20 for the 8U teams.

At the Santa Clara Westside Future Stars Tournament, the 8U Blue team won 3 games and advanced to the championship game.  The team played their hearts out all day and came in a close second in the finals against Moreland.  A great way to close out the post-season!

2012 Tournament of Champions

The District 44 Tournament of Champions (TOC) recently concluded.  Information is on the District 44 website.  The Majors Yankees won their first two games against Mountain View and Tri-Cities (Cupertino), making it to a semi-final game against Santa Clara Briarwood on June 16.  The Juniors A's and Giants teams both played, with the Giants making it to a semi-final game against the Homestead Rays.

2012 End of Season Tournaments

Baseball AA bracket -congratulations to the Cubs!

Baseball AAA bracket - congratulations to the Phillies!

Majors bracket - congratulations to the Yankees, who continued their season by playing in the District 44 Tournament of Champions. They won their first two games against Mountain View and Tri-Cities (Cupertino), making it to a semi-final game against Santa Clara Briarwood.

Softball AA/AAA tournament - Congratulations to the AA Royals and AAA Orange Crush for their wins in our end-of-season tournaments.   Congratulations also to the AA Red Storm and AAA Psychos for their 2nd place finishes, especially for their great sportsmanship in the final games.  The AA tournament games Saturday were both won in the final at-bat

2012 Memorial Day Tournaments

Our 8U Softball Tournament Team played in a Memorial Weekend tournament in San Carlos against teams from Los Gatos, East Bay, Gilroy, and Belmont.  The girls played very well over the weekend - hitting, pitching and playing defense.  In the final day of the tournament, the girls tied the team from Gilroy 5-5 - nearly winning the game in the bottom of the 5th with the bases loaded.  Later, against Belmont, the girls scored 3 in the last inning to again tie the game 6-6 - nearly winning on a hard hit grounder.  But Belmont made a nice defensive play to force the game into extra innings, and ended up on top 9-6.  Our girls never gave up - a great performance by our 8U Team playing in their first tournament!

A group of Los Altos Little League 10U's played in the Sunnyvale National Memorial Day Tournament at Washington Park. We played a challenging (for the coaches) 7 games in less than 48 hours, but through it all the kids did great. We lost a heartbreaker in the semi-finals after leading with two outs (and two strikes!) in the sixth, but the kids had a blast playing almost half a Little League season in two days!

9U Team Wins Moreland Tournament

The 9U team finished its post-season Saturday, July 2, by winning the Moreland (San Jose) 9U tournament, beating Sunnyvale Metro, Moreland, and then Campbell 11-2 in the championship game.

The 9U team played a total of four post-season tournaments and had an overall record of 11-2, highlighted by going 3-1 in the Sunnyvale National 9-10 year old tournament over Memorial Day weekend, sweeping LA-MV Pony's two 9U teams, and finishing 6-0 in the Moreland tournament including going 3-0 in the pool games and then 3-0 in the playoff round.

It was a great experience for the 9Us and bodes well for future success for Los Altos.

Congratulations Aidan, Baylor, Cameron, Charlie, Garrett, Jason, Joey, Kyle, Max, Ryan, Ryan, Spencer, and Zach!

9U Tournament Team Update

The 9U team is currently playing in the Moreland (San Jose) 9U tournament, which started June 27.  They won their first game 13-1 against Sunnyvale Metro, and their second game 17-3 against Peninsula Lighting.  So far, the 9U team has an overall record of 7-2 over 4 tournaments (Sunnyvale National 9-10 year old Tournament, Campbell Friendship 9U Tournament, Pony Friendship 9U Tournament, and Moreland 9U Tournament).

8U Tournament Teams end successful tournament season

The Los Altos 8U Blue Team had an amazing run this tournament season with a 13-2-1 record that was highlighted by winning the Moreland Summer Splash Tournament.  The team was extremely competitive in the Lakewood Tournament, the Westside Tournament where they beat the eventual winner in pool play, and the LAMV Pony Games at Purissima.  They had so much fun together they decided to enter one more tournament on July 9-10 hosted by Cambrian (who beat Los Altos Blue at Lakewood).

The 8U Red Team finished its highly successful post-season run with an overall 6 - 7 record.  Highlights included winning their pool in the Moreland tournament and advancing to the weekend play as the tournament's #3 seed, as well as winning both of their games in the LALL Friendship Tournament with MVLA Pony and Mountain View Little League.

8U Blue Team Wins the Moreland Summer Splash Tournament
Congratulations to the 8U tournament teams!

After tying Half Moon Bay Black in their first game on Tuesday, defeating Serra by only 2 runs on Thursday, and beating Quito by 9 on Friday, the 8U Blue Team earned a number 2 seed bye in the Saturday single elimination tournament.  In their first game, they defeated Sunnyvale Metro 11 to 2 only to set up a second game against the highly competitive Half Moon Bay Black in the afternoon.  In a nail biter that felt like the score would be tied forever, Los Altos Blue's very deep line up broke out in the fifth with 3 runs; and their solid defense held them in the sixth to win 13 to 11.  Then it was onto the final game against the Belmont Blasters, where Blue won 17 to 10.  The most difficult decision each game for Manager Tom Marron and Coaches Ken Burton and Carl Eschenbach was to whom to award the game ball.  In fact, in the Game against Serra, everyone on the team was awarded a game ball because everyone contributed significantly in the field and at the bat.

Great job by both teams, way to go Los Altos!

Memorial Day Tournaments - 9U

The 9U team played in the first annual Washington Park Memorial Day 9-10 tournament in Sunnyvale.

The team started off on Saturday with a 9-6 win over the Tri Cities Renegades, which is a mostly 10 year old team from Tri Cities Little League (Cupertino).  Key moments were great pitching from Nathan, Joey, and Case; solid defense by the whole team, including a snag of a bullet shot to 3B by Ryan S; and a huge hit by Zach to get us the lead, which we then maintained.

The guys played another great game Sunday morning, winning 12-2 in 4 innings over Sunnyvale National Blue, highlighted by excellent pitching from both Anton and Ryan G.  It was hard to get into a rhythm batting because their pitchers struggled with control, but we had two big hits from Cameron, who roped a double down the 3rd base line, and a tremendous blast to the fence by Joey, which ended the game by mercy rule.

The team ended pool play beating Sunnyvale Southern Sluggers 7-6 in a well played, exciting game.  We had great pitching from Case, Kyle, Ryan S, and Zach against a very good hitting team, and we made key plays on defense when it mattered the most.
The game was tied 6-6 going into the top of the 6th inning, and we got the lead after a single by Nathan followed by opportunistic base running.  In the bottom of the 6th, we got important outs by Joey at shortstop and Charlie in left field, but Sunnyvale Southern managed to load the bases with 2 outs.  The next batter hit a hard grounder to Anton at third base who fielded it cleanly for the final out.  The guys ended pool play winning their group with a 3-0 record and advanced to the single-elimination round on Monday.

Seeded #3, the team faced a strong West Valley Sluggers team from Cupertino on Monday.  They held a good hitting team scoreless for four out of the six innings played.  There was super pitching from Nathan and Max and strong team defense.  Although the team put a lot of balls into play, West Valley played good defense as well.  The final score was 1-5.

The next tournament will be the Campbell Friendship 9U tournament in mid-June.

9U Blue Team wins 2010 Briarwood 9U Memorial Day Tournament

Coached by Marc Adams, Jim McConnell, and Dave Hiebert, the 9U Boys Blue team won the Briarwood 9U Memorial Day tournament in very dramatic fashion.

After winning the first three games in the tournament on Saturday and Sunday, the team started Monday as the first seed and faced off against the number 2 seed (Campbell) at 9 AM.   2010 9U Blue team

Campbell is the team that our 7-8U Blue team beat in the finals at the Lakewood tournament last year; and both teams had the exact same players except for one new player on each team.  Both teams were very aware of last year’s battle.  Unfortunately, the first game didn’t go very well; and Campbell thumped us 16 – 4.

We then had to beat Fool Kount in an elimination game for both teams.  We made a great comeback against them in the bottom of the sixth inning to get a chance at Campbell again.  At this point we had to beat Campbell twice because they hadn’t lost yet and it was a double elimination tournament.   We went into extra innings in the next game on a dramatic come from behind game to tie it up in the bottom of the 6th.  Then in the first inning of extra innings, Campbell put two runs up.  Fortunately, we countered with three runs to win by one.  This forced another game, winner take all.  Our kids were definitely tired and didn’t put up any runs through the first 5 innings.  We went into the top of the last inning down 5 to 0.   Coach Mark getting dousedWe then made a miraculous 8 run last inning rally to go up 8 – 5.  Our boys then made a great double play with two kids on in the bottom of the sixth inning and then closed them out to win 8 - 5 in the final game.

All in all, our boys started at 9 AM and never left the field until 8 PM.  We played four games today and ran the table to come back from what looked like an insurmountable situation.  The team played great and the coaches are very proud of them.  One of the best parts was when the kids all threw Gatorade at coach Mark right after the final out was made!

Tuesday, June 1
Other 2010 Memorial Day tournaments
The 9U Los Altos Red Team also had a blast at the Briarwood tournament and put in a great effort.

On Saturday afternoon, the Red Team opened up against Campbell and held them to a 2 – 2 tie and went into extra innings.   In the top of the 7th, we were 1 out of shutting them down; and then they rallied and put 7 runs on the board.   We came back in the bottom of the 7th and put 3 runs on the board with bases loaded only to come up short. The boys played great in this game but we just could not get the final out in the top of the 7th.

Immediately thereafter we had a game against San Lorenzo in which the boys just could not regroup after the loss and we were mowed down 19 -0 in our second game of the day.  We unfortunately lost a couple key players to injury and illnesses during this game.

On Sunday we drew the two early morning games back to back.   We opened with Saratoga, whom we allowed to score 11 runs in two innings and them held them scoreless the remaining 4 innings but could only put 3 runs on the board over those 4 innings.   Thus we lost 11 – 3.

Immediately after we had a game against Mooreland which we lost 6 – 8.

The boys are looking forward to the next tournament in Campbell!

8U Tournament Teams finish season at the 2010 Westside Future Stars Tournament

The two Los Altos 8U tournament teams (Blue, Red) played in the Santa Clara Westside "Future Stars" tournament the weekend of June 26-27, 2010.  Both teams began play on Saturday, June 26, at Steve Carli Field, 1045 Los Padres Boulevard, Santa Clara.

The Los Altos Red team split its Saturday games, winning the first game against Half Moon Bay in an exciting come-from-behind finish in the 6th inning, with the Blue team stopping pre-game warm-ups to cheer them on.  Sunday's game was played against Moreland.

The Los Altos Blue team decisively won both its games on Saturday, earning a first round bye in Sunday's games.  After playing the Santa Clara Westside Warriors and Tri-Cities on Saturday, they ended the tournament playing the South City Titans.  South City went on to win the tournament.

The 8U Blue team also played in the Burlingame tournament June 10-13, in weather that ranged from cold winds to sunny warmth.  After losing the first game to San Mateo American by one run, they went on to win the next two games against the Foster City Giants Orange and Half Moon Bay Pirates.  Although tied 2-1 for the lead in pool play games, the tiebreaker rules allowed Half Moon Bay to continue to the semifinals.

In summary, the LALL 7-8 Blue Tournament Team finished its post-season run by winning six of their final seven games, including a sweep of LA-MV PONY in the annual Friendship Tournament.  The team also won two out of three games at the Burlingame Tournament and won their group at the Santa Clara Westside Future Stars Tournament, thanks to stellar defense and consistent hitting throughout the lineup.  The coaches want to thank all of the players for their excellent effort and sportsmanship during this post-season and we look forward to seeing you all on the diamond next year - great job Blues!

9U Blue Team Wins Campbell Tournament
The 9U Blue Tournament Team won the 2010 Campbell 9U Friendship Tournament by defeating the host team, Campbell, 10-0 in the finals on June 24.  This tournament is the second consecutive tournament win as the 9U Blue team also won the Briarwood Memorial Tournament over Memorial Day weekend.

The team won their qualifying round game to get into the quarter-finals by beating Mountain View, then secured a spot in the semi-finals by winning the game against Sunnyvale.  The semi-final game against Serra was the most exciting game of the tournament for Los Altos.  The team played nearly flawlessly in establishing a 10-3 after the fourth inning, before escaping with a 10-9 victory that came down to the last out.

In the final game against Campbell, Ryan Burton threw a no-hitter and the team had some timely hitting to build up the 10 run lead in winning the championship.

The team is primarily the same team that won the 2009 Lakewood Championship.  Players on the team include Ryan Baum, Casey McConnell, Andrew Hiebert, Matthew Adams, Nathan Puentes, Nathan Nakamitsu, Ryan Kelleher, Wyatt Dincel, Sean Murphy, Ryan Burton, Austin Townsend, George Fisher, and Jimmy Angelini.

9-10 All Stars 2010

The 9-10 All Stars team lost its first game against Serra on June 26, but won its next games against Cupertino National, Cupertino American, Moreland, and Sunnyvale National.

The team defeated Cupertino National on the strength of a four inning complete game pitching performance by Matt May. Offensive highlights included a solo home run by Bo Fick and two doubles by Adam Rosembaum.

The victory over Santa Clara Moreland was highlighted by three innings of pitching by Matt May with seven strikeouts and one inning of pitching by Keenan Hanley with two K’s.  Offense was led by Bo Fick, who was 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs and a double, and Kieren Bartlett, who had a double, single and an RBI.

The team won a nail biter on July 6, beating Sunnyvale National 3-2.  Los Altos was up 2-0 going into the sixth but then allowed two unearned runs. They came back in the bottom of the sixth, scoring the winning run on a Keenan Hanley shot to left field which scored Alex Lam.  Great pitching from Matt May, Kieren Bartlett, Keenan Hanley, and Adam Rosembaum kept the SN batters off the base paths.

One day later, on July 7, the team ran into a tough Campbell team.  They struggled on the mound and made a couple of mistakes in the field.   Campbell took advantage and broke the game wide open in the top of the third, exploding to a 16 to 4 lead.  They added 8 in the fourth to win 22-6.  The team had a great run and we are very pleased to have made it into the final four of a 14 team tournament.  The final record was 4 wins and 2 losses.  The kids and coaches are all looking forward to enjoying summer vacation.

2010 Juniors All Stars - District 44 champions and Section 5 finalists!

Congratulations to the Junior All Stars--District 44 All Star Champions and Section 5 All Star finalists!

Los Altos faced Evergreen from District 59 in the first round of the Section 5, Little League tournament.

Los Altos won 15 to 5 in six innings, with a twelve hit attack, and another strong pitching performance from Ian McColl, and Chandler Brown.

Los Altos took a 4-0 lead into the fourth inning scoring one in the first and three in the third, on Austin Mahowald’s bases clearing double.

Evergreen answered the four run deficit, scoring four of their own in the top of the fourth, with a solo homerun from Wang, and a three run triple by Garza.

Los Altos responded to Evergreen by scoring six in their half of the fourth. After loading the basis with no outs, Evergreen’s Lee, was able to induce a pop out from Los Altos number three hitter, Matthew Sandor, followed by a strike out of Ian McColl.  But Los Altos was just getting started with two outs.  First baseman James Oleson doubled, clearing the bases.  Michael Andris followed legging out an infield single and advancing Oleson to third.  Mahowald walked and JP Sorensen singled to score Oleson and Andris.  Los Altos scored one more in the inning on a balk.

After Evergreen scored one in the fifth off of reliever Chandler Brown, Los Altos entered the bottom of the 6th with a 10-5 lead.

Los Altos loaded the bases again in the bottom of the 6th for Sandor.  Sandor popped up again, but this time the ball carried over three hundred and twenty feet clearing the right centerfield fence for a Grand Slam homerun.  Los Altos scored one more to take a ten run lead to win the game 15 to 5 in six innings.

Los Altos advanced to play Hollister on July 19.  After losing to Hollister, they played the District 12 winner Lincoln Glen on July 20, beating them 13-3 with Paul Bergevin pitching a very good complete game.  In the Section 5 championship game Wednesday night, the Juniors lost a tough game to Hollister 4-5.  They gave up three unearned runs in the fifth to give Hollister the lead, which they were not able to get back.

The Junior All Stars started with a win against Mountain View on July 6.  They then beat Homestead 10-0 in the semi-final game.  Starter Ian McColl pitched four almost flawless innings, facing only 16 batters in his four innings.  Chandler Brown relieved McColl in the fifth inning and pitched two shut out innings.  Los Altos played great defense behind McColl, with Short Stop Matthew Sandor snuffing out a Santa Clara scoring threat in the third inning and turning two double plays.  Offensively, Los Altos systematically scored runs, scoring two in the first inning on three hits.  After scoring two in the second, two in the third, and three in the fourth, they put the game away in the sixth, scoring their tenth run on three straight singles.

2009 All Star/Tournament Team Selection Process
The Board of Directors recently revised and updated the "All Star/Tournament Team Selection Process."  Here's the latest version.

Friday, May 29
Los Altos 7-8 year-old Tournament Team wins 2009 Lakewood Memorial Day Tournament

The Los Altos Little League 7-8 year-old "Blue" Tournament Team won its first ever Lakewood Memorial Day Tournament in Sunnyvale over the Memorial Day weekend.  The tournament was comprised of 11 other teams from neighboring communities in a round-robin format.  The Los Altos Blue team won its first three tournament games in convincing style by the scores of 20-10, 20-5, and 12-0.  By virtue of the team's success in its first three games, the team was seeded first in advancing to the six team play-off format.

In their semi-final game, Los Altos Blue was trailing Cambrian 14-8 in the bottom of the last inning but managed to score seven runs to win the game 15-14.  In the championship game against Campbell, Los Altos Blue played a nearly flawless game in winning 12-2.  Casey M. was named the tournament's most valuable player.  Other players included Ryan B, Ryan B, Dilan D, Wyatt D, George F, Andrew H, Ryan K, Sean M, Nathan P, and Matthew A.

The team will next be competing in the Burlingame 8 & Under Tournament from June 11-15.  Along with the Los Altos "Red" team, it will also be playing in the Westside Santa Clara 8 & Under Tournament on June 27-28.

Game #4 - Los Altos (AAA) A's 17, Cupertino National Red Sox 5 on June 15 at Washington Park

With both teams only giving up two runs each in the first inning, it looked like it would be a close game.  But in the top of the second, with some heads-up base running, the A's scored five runs on wild pitches.  This trend would continue through the rest of the game.  Matt M pitched well, going 3 innings and giving up only 2 hits and runs and striking out 6.  Leading hitters:  Wyatt D 2 for 2, single, double, walk; Kieren B 2 for 3, single and double; Matt M, double; Matt T, single; Jackson W, single.

Game #9 - Los Altos A's 5, Sunnyvale Metro 9 on June 17 at Purissima #3

Pitcher Matt T was impressive, allowing only 5 hits and striking out 9 in 5 innings of work.

The A's mounted a spirited comeback bid by adding 2 runs in the 5th with their disciplined hitting, making the Marlins work hard for every strike, getting on board through walks, and scoring with aggressive base running.   Bases were loaded with one out in the bottom of the 6th inning as the A’s continued to chip away at the Marlins lead.  Sunnyvale brought in an 8-year-old pitcher with the count full. After throwing a called third strike, making it two outs in the inning, he issued two more walks to load the bases before getting the final out on a groundout to the shortstop to secure the Marlins win.

Game #9 - Los Altos Yankees 15, Sunnyvale National 6 on June 18 at Southern.

The Sunnyvale National Giants rushed to the lead on a 2-run home run, then held the lead through the 4th with great defensive plays and pitching. The Los Altos Yankees closed the lead in the 4th with 3 runs, then broke the game open with a 12 run 5th inning which included 8 hits. Great pitching by Matthew S, who pitched the last 5 innings and struck out 11 of 14, giving up 1 walk without any hits.

Game #12 - Los Altos Yankees 8, Moreland 7 on June 20 at Metro.

The Moreland Giants kept the Yankee hitters in check, giving up no runs and only 3 hits through the first 5 innings while the Giants built up a 6 run lead. In the bottom of the 6th, the Yankees mounted a furious comeback sending 9 batters to the plate and scoring 6 runs to tie the game. The Giants scratched out a run in the top of the 7th, but the Yankees came right back to score 2 in the bottom of the 7th.

8U Tournament Teams finish season at 2009 Santa Clara Westside Tournament

The Los Altos 8U tournament teams (Reds, Blues) finished their season at the Santa Clara Westside Tournament on June 27-28.  Playing in near record-setting heat, both teams sweated through four games over the weekend--two games each on both Saturday and Sunday.  They hoped to eventually meet each other in a semi-final game but both ended the tournament in the quarter-finals.

The Los Altos Blue team finished off their tournament season with a 10-3 record including winning the Lakewood Memorial Day 8 & under tournament for the first time in Los Altos Little League history.  In the Santa Clara Westside Tournament, the Blue team beat the Willow Glen Yankees twice, 12-11 and 7-1.  The team was led offensively by Andrew H, Ryan B, Sean M, and Wyatt D. In the first game against Willow Glen, the team jumped out to a 12-2 lead with some timely hitting.  Throughout the tournament, the team played nearly error free baseball and was led defensively by Nathan P, Ryan B, and Matthew A.  In the quarter-finals, the Blue team lost 3-1 to the eventual tournament champion, Santa Clara Fool Count in a very close match-up.  Down 3-0, the team managed to rally to score one run in the bottom of the 5th.

photo by John Cadeddu The Red team lost its first game against #3 seed Campbell, 11-3. Against Hillsboro, down 11-3 in the final inning, they rallied to add 6 runs; but came against the 10-batter limit. On Sunday morning, the Red team won a thrilling game against Sunnyvale Metro, 4-3, in the bottom of the 7th inning, with the Blue team cheering them on. Jason W started the scoring by hitting a triple with one RBI. Tied 3-3 at the top of the 6th, Jake H threw home to Ben P for a bases-loaded, force out at the plate. After a scoreless bottom of the 6th, Jake H caught three straight pop-ups while playing pitcher. In the bottom of the 7th, Garrett D hit a double, bringing in Rory M for the winning run. The quarter-final game was against #1 seed Belmont.

Both teams are already looking forward to next year!

Thanks to all the coaches (Reds:  Brad Dinsmore, Anthony Angelini, Tom Schott; Blues:  Mark Adams, Dave Hiebert, Jim McConnell) for a fun tournament season.

GREAT game!  First we were ahead 1-0, and then Briarwood scored 2 in the 3rd to make it 2-1 them, and then they scored four more to make it 6-1 them by the top of the 4th!  But we rallied in the bottom of the 4th on some walks and then clutch hits by the heart of the order to make it 6-5.  We worked hard for a run in the bottom of the 5th to tie the score 6-6.  Trevor Rogers pitched very well in the 5th and 6th to hold the lead.

And then in the bottom of the 6th Paul Myers reached base on an error, went to 2nd on a passed ball, and with one out, Stevie Wang came up and blasted a line shot home run over the centerfield fence to give us an 8-6 walkoff win!!

2009 Sectional Championships tonight!

Please come out to support our 11-12 and Juniors All Stars teams, who are both playing in their respective sectional championship games on July 22!

The Los Altos Juniors All Stars and 11-12 All Stars continued their great runs through the Section 5 tournaments, as they each won their second games; and both now advance to the Championship games of these Sectional tournaments!  Both of these games occur on Wednesday, July 22nd, at 5:30 p.m.  The Juniors will play at Willow Glen High School vs. the winner of today's Hollister vs. Almaden game.  The 11-12's will play at Miller Field's little league field vs. the winner of today's Saratoga vs. North Valley game.    COME ON OUT to the games to support these teams!

The Juniors had a great game vs. Hollister on July 20, in a game that started as an excellent pitching duel between Conrad Rogers of Los Altos and a strong pitcher from Hollister.  The game zipped through the first five innings, with LALL taking a 1-0 lead on a combination of three walks and a hit-by-pitch.

Steve McLean reached at the beginning of the 6th on a bunt, stole 2nd, and then scored on Grant Tinker's line single.  Another walk, and then Dmitri Trembois had a single up the middle to load the bases.  After a HBP to score a run, Nate Becker hit a big double down the right field line to knock in all three runs.  Another hit and another walk, and Hollister removed their starting pitcher.  Los Altos then went to town on the two relievers Hollister brought in.  We ended up scoring a total of 11 runs in that inning on a combination of hits and walks, and Conrad shut them down in the 6th, and so we had a 12-0 mercy win.  Conrad threw a great game--a 3-hit shutout, with no walks.

The 11-12 All Stars had another very exciting game, bringing a lot of thrills to their fans, as they beat a good Saratoga team 14-12.   We started out ahead 3-0, and then they scored 7 runs over 3 innings to take a 7-3 lead.  But we came back with good hitting in the bottom of the third to narrow their lead to 7-6.  And then in the 4th inning, Andrew Young clubbed a 3-run HR over the left center field fence to give Los Altos a 9-7 lead!  Matt Sandor did a nice job of holding them for two innings after that, and we kept hitting well and also took advantage of some Saratoga errors; and going into the top of the 6th we had a 14-9 lead.  They used some bad hop singles combined with a couple of walks to score three to make it interesting, but we got the win, without having to use our last at bat!

COME ON OUT TO SUPPORT YOUR TEAMS!

After having everything go wrong July 11 in the 13-3 loss to Santa Clara Westside, the team bounced back with a commanding 5-1 win over the same Santa Clara Westside team and its #1 pitcher, to win the District 44 All Star Championship! The kids showed a lot of heart and grit in flushing the previous loss and played a GREAT game in all aspects!

Zach Klein was dealin', as he threw five dominating innings; and then Griffin Quinn came in in the 6th and took out the heart of their batting order in three straight outs to close out the Championship win!  Thomas Kelleher got us on the board first with a 2-run bomb; and then after we put together a 3rd run, Zach helped out his own cause with a line drive home run to put us up 5-0.  And then Griff mowed them down in the 6th!

A big hand also to Manager Jerry Sorensen and coaches John Bruggeman and Milt McColl, for guiding these kids through a four straight wins to take the catbird seat and then this final win!

The 11-12's move on to play in the Section 5 Tournament, which wll be held at Cupertino American and Tri-Cities.

Wi-Fi now available at Purissima
Los Altos and Los Altos Hills Little League is pleased to announce that cable broadband and a Wi-Fi network are now available at Purissima fields.  You should be able to connect with your Wi-Fi enabled devices.

The service is available during your team's games and practices. We are hoping the service will let parents spend more time at these events.

This 2010 spring season, the service is being offered free to our Little League families on a trial basis.  We are encouraging donations to defray the set up and recurring monthly costs.  Donations can be made at the Snack Shack.

CONNECTION and PASSWORD:

Your Wi-Fi software should find three access points:

  1. LALL P1-P2 (serving AAA and Juniors fields #1 and #2)
  2. LALL P3-P4 (serving Majors and AA fields #3 and #4)
  3. LALL Snack Shack (serving the Snack Shack area)
Pick the strongest of the three and enter the password.  Please inquire at the Snack Shack for the current password.

TECHNICAL NOTES:

  • Automatic roaming is not enabled on the network.
  • The first time you connect to each of the three access points, you will need to enter the password.
  • Your Wi-Fi software may not automatically select or switch to the strongest access point.
  • You may be able to speed up your connection by manually switching access points, especially if you move about.
  • You should be able to connect from virtually anywhere on site, but signals are weak and connection speed is slower at the far corners. The signals originate in the Snack Shack, so connection is strongest and fastest in that area. Wi-Fi signals don't mind a layer or two of chain link fence but they hate solid walls, especially concrete. Try to find a location with a clear line-of-site to the snack shack for best results. Avoid being in the "shadow" of the concrete bathroom building.

HELP NEEDED: We need someone with the right skills and access to business class equipment donations to take over management of the Purissima Wi-Fi.   Coverage and convenience to our users could be greatly improved if we can get a few hours of help from the right person.  Inquire at the Snack Shack.

FEEDBACK:  We will monitor feedback, but cannot promise timely technical support.  Please email wifi@losaltoslittleleague.com.
