Los Altos & Los Altos Hills Little League (Bay Area): Coaching & Volunteering
Our Little League is an all-volunteer organization. We depend on parent support and participation to make our league successful. During online player registration, you will have the opportunity to sign up as a volunteer. After you volunteer online, a member of our Board of Directors will contact you to confirm your availability and provide more details. If you would like to volunteer but did not do so during player registration, please send email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Coaching a team is a fun and rewarding way to participate in your child’s baseball or softball experience. We are always looking for enthusiastic coaches, particularly for the younger divisions.
Each team needs a head coach (manager) and one or more assistant coaches. Most teams will have multiple assistant coaches to help if your schedule is busy or unpredictable and you have to miss a practice or game. On-field coaching duties are typically shared between the head coach and assistant coaches, but the head coach also handles schedules, lineups, and email communications with parents.
While baseball/softball knowledge and experience are very helpful for coaching upper division teams, there is no experience necessary for coaching T-Ball. Many parents are apprehensive about coaching for the first time, but our league sponsors an excellent coaching clinic in late February that will show you how to teach basic baseball/softball skills to young kids and how to organize a practice.
If you are able to coach, or think you might be interested, please check the volunteer box during player registration and you will be contacted by the appropriate division commissioner.
Volunteer – One Day Events
We frequently need help with managing one-day events and activities. Some examples are helping setup/cleanup for Opening Day (March 12 2017), helping with check-in, setup, or cleanup at player evaluations and clinics, and chaperoning softball practices (all Girls Softball practices must have a female adult present). The time commitment is usually just a few hours on one day, and there is no experience necessary. You will be given whatever brief training is required just prior to the event or activity. If you are able to volunteer, please check the volunteer box during player registration and you will be contacted by a member of our Board of Directors to coordinate schedule.
