The 2011 14u Cougars have finished their fall workout program. The Cougars fine tuned many things and have adjusted nicely to the longer field dimensions over the two month period. The strongest team in the brief Cougar history has gotten even stronger. There are 3 new players that have gotten a feel for what Cougar baseball is about and they have been fitting in nicely. Returning to the club is one player in his second season as a Cougar, 3 players returning for season three and 5 original Cougars gearing up for season #4! Those 5 dedicated players have endured the toughest of times while helping to establish this club and are really reaping the rewards for their dedication and determination. This is an experienced club and as they mature as ballplayers they should have an outstanding 2011 campaign. The defense keeps getting stronger, the offense believe it or not, may be even better even after a record shattering 2010 season and the pitchers keep falling into our lap! Twelve Cougars will see the mound in 2011!!! The Cougar philosophy has helped to develop several kids into players you can put "anywhere". The new kids will have those opportunities to become that type of player. Normally the development of 9-15 year old kids as ballplayers is halted by specialization, the Cougar program tries to steer clear of that mindset!
2010 update...
After a slow start with the bats, the averages are climbing and the hits and runs piling up! The 13u Cougars are off the to best start in the organizations short history. The first Cougar club had 30 victories when they were 13 and the current club already has 14 wins after just 22 games...The defense has been exceptional at times and with the offense scoring runs this has become a difficult team to beat. All 10 rostered players have pitched and that depth has allowed the staff to stay fresh. The Cougars use 5 different catchers with Jake Gluszek being the anchor, having that type of depth will keep any of them from burning out during the season. The middle infield is unreal with Davis Purviance and Taylor O'Donnell playing a majority of the innings at shortstop and as a one two punch these two are as good as it gets! Second base has been manned mostly by Jeff Schoenhofen with Mike Pratl getting some solid innings there and "Ultra Utility Man" Billy Krawczyk, a huge addition to the club in 2010, doing a great job at second, short and all three outfield positions. Matt Maza has played a majority of the innings at the hot corner as well as the outfield and has been one of the most consistent pitchers on the mound thus far. The Cougars depth has found Pratl, Purviance, O'Donnell and Krawczyk all playing meaningful innings at third as well. Nick Bratcher has improved defensively by leaps and bounds at first base as he enters his second season of travel ball, while Brendan Treacy and Connor Murphy anchor the outfield and have done a nice job on the mound! The outlook is bright for this ballclub that has really turned things around after the last couple of seasons. Those that are with us for their third season are reaping the benefits of hard work, determination, patience and loyalty. These kids are the real life example of the old adage " Winners never Quit and Quitters never WIN! These kids don't know how to quit and those that have joined us since that 11 year old season have helped put us over the top!
