103 Hockey "Mails It In", Lose 8-1

Chris Gracia
Gracia on the loss- "Ugly"

Quincy, MA- Chris Schultz should sue his team for non-support.  Last night at Quincy Youth Arena, the goaltender was left completely alone; His team abandoning him, and any game plan that they had going into the contest.  From the opening face-off, "Double Runners" completely outplayed the "Bolted B-s"; skating to a decicive 8-1 victory.  The much younger, faster and polished "Runners" outshot 103 by a  31-8 margin.

When asked about the defeat, Alternate Captain Chris Gracia had one word- "Ugly".  The mood was somber in the LAST PLACE team's locker room after the defeat.  "This has to be an all-time low for this team" mused a 103 player.  "We're getting too old in here."

The team has very little time to feel sorry for itself.  They return home to the Canton SportPlex this Friday night when 6-5 IFC comes to town.  The "Freeport Street Bullies" are just 4-7 on the season and have thier work cut-out for them.

Horrible Officiating and "Gaffe" Loses Game for 103

Judge Reinhold
Lantz- "The stupidest thing that I've ever seen in a hockey game."

Canton, MA- For two periods, Local 103 looked like world beaters last night. In the end, the only thing they beat were themselves.  Leading 3-1 in the second period, the team missed several chances to put the game on ice.  Dan Roman and Bobby Spinale connected on a sparkling 2 on 1 break, Spinale's shot rang off the far post and the all was for naught.  Later in the period, Matt Fraumeni scored to make the lead 4-1.  However a sleeping official couldn't see the puck land in the top corner of the net.  The goal was not allowed and Mutiny chopped the lead to 3-2.

Spirited, hard hitting play highlighted the early part of the third period.  Dan Roman's bout with Mutiny "Tough Guy" Ivan Khucklanov (6-3, 235) was the spark that both teams were looking for to kick the pace into overdrive. The two were given roughing penalties and sent to the dressing rooms.  With 103 clinging to a 3-2 lead, great goaltending would save the day.  Not on this night..

Mutiny was allowed to tie the game with a power play goal with just 1:35 remaining in the contest.  Mutiny was 3 for 3 with the man advantage on the night.

The Freeport Street Bullies dug deep, and grinded the puck down the ice into the Mutiny zone.  The pressure that was being applied by Kyle and Ronnie Holmes forced Mutiny to "ice" the puck. Goaltender Greg Lantz, filling in for injured backstop Mike Schultz, inaverdently played the puck. This mistake cost Team 103 a face-off in the offensive end with 14 seconds to play.  That is only the beginning of the tale.  When Lantz "played" the puck, he gave it to the opposition, fell backwards, and allowed the winning goal to score.

"Absoloutly the stupidest thing that I've ever seen in a hockey game." mused Lantz when asked about the error.

Team 103 gets back into action Friday (1-22) when they visit Quincy Youth Arena to face Double Runners in a division battle.  Game time is 9:30 PM.

103 Wins First IBEW Championship!

OPC Champs
2009 OPC Champions!

Hackensack, NJ- On the weekend of April 2nd-5th, Local 103 Hockey competed in the 46th Annual IBEW OPC Tournament.  The enormous event was hosted by Local 3 of New York City.  During the Tourney, The "Bolted B's" sported a 5-0-0 record; capturing their first championship.  The Boys from Boston had to defeat teams from hockey hotbeds such as Hamilton, ONT, Oshawa, ONT, and Detroit MI to advance into the playoff rounds.  Once the ball was rolling, the Freeport Street Bullies could not be stopped.  In the Championship Game, they defeated (Gracious) Host New York by a score of 5-0.  The victory insured Local 103 of the title, becoming the first American team to claim the "B" Hardware.

Boston Goalie Eric Schubert won the award for the Tournaments "Best Goalie".  Sporting a tidy 1.75 Goals Against Average.  His level of play was an enormous part of the teams victory.  The most ironic part of his performance was the fact that he was a last minute add-on to the roster.  On Sunday, March 29th, Starting Goaltender Billy O'Neill was struck in the throat with an errant puck during warm-ups.  Although Billy stayed in net and played solid in a 5-4 win over the Boston Police, he wasn't feeling well.  After arriving home he was rushed by ambulance to a Boston hospital.   It was discovered that O'Neill had a hole in his airway and a partially crushed esophagas.  Luckily, Bill is making a full recovery and will be back skating soon.  Get Well Billy!

103 Hockey would also Like to thank Local 3 for all of their hospitality.  They put on an unbelievable show!  Special thanks to Gerry DelGrosso, Tom Nolan, and OUR player rep, Bill Dion!  Also Thank you Business Manager Chris Erikson and Business Representitive Mark Hansen.  Once again Local 3 has set the bar high.  THANK YOU!

Local 103 Plays in Campbell Classic

Campbell Cup 2009

Quincy, MA- On Saturday, May 2, 103 Hockey competed in the Tenth Annual Campbell Cup Hockey Classic.  Team 103 was asked to play in one "filler" game to keep the Tournament from having a gap between the competition.  Although the game was not part of the Tournament's "round robin" format, the players on both teams represented themselves, and the game of hockey, with class and dignity.

Local 103 eventually lost to Team MoJo in the exhibition by a score of 3-2.  On this night however, the score of the game played second fiddle to the event itself.  The Campbell Cup Hockey Classic's proceeds all go to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.  It is aknowledged as the only hockey tournament that does this.  Local 103 Hockey is proud to have had the oppurtunity to help, although in a small way, to this profoundly important charity.  Cancer is a devastating illness that has touched all of us in one way or another.  With the help of people like the Campbell Family, one day we will hopefully have a cure for this terrible disease.

We would like to thank the Campbell Family for their gracious invitation.  We had a blast and would like to contribute in the future if asked again.

Golf Outing A "Smash"!

BarkerandGillmore

Easton, MA- On Saturday, September 19th, 103 Hockey held it's 5th Annual Golf Outing.  The weather was fantastic and the course was in excellent shape.  The winning team was Team Gracia, who finished with at a tidy minus 8.  Local 103 Hockey would like to thank the Lombardi Family, as well as the professional staff of Easton Country Club.  Their gracious hospitality makes this event a red letter date on the team calandar. Congratulations and Thanks to all who played.

We'll see you all again next year!
