The La Entrada Volleyball program is open to girls in the 4th through 8th grades. Teams are based on grade to align with the guidelines of the recreational league run by the Menlo Park Youth Volleyball Program. There will be one game and at least two practices per week as determined by the coach. The season begins in September and runs through November. Games are played at the Burgess Recreation Center against other schools in the area.

This program cannot exist without the help of parent volunteers. Whether as a coach, team parent, uniform coordinator, etc., please consider volunteering your time in some capacity by contacting our Athletic Director.

Cost for the season: $110 per player.

Tournament Volleyball

The La Entrada basketball program is open to all students in 3rd to 8th grades only. All children registered to play will be placed on a team, guaranteed. The 'evaluations' are strictly to split up each grade level into 'fair and balanced' teams as mandated by the Burgess League.

LLL information about team selection, practices, game days, uniforms:

• Registration opens October 19th, 2009 until November 6, 2009.  THERE WILL BE NO LATE REGISTRATIONS ACCEPTED as we will need to form teams based on the number of participants by grade on November 8th!  This is a quick turn around from registration close to the Evaluation day - help us by registering on time!
• Player Evaluations and team selection will be on November, 8th 2009 at the La Entrada gyms.  Plan to have your child attend on the afternoon of November 8th at the La Entrada school gyms.  Specific times will be communicated but plan on approximately 1 hour per grade on the afternoon of November 8th.  The evaluations are in place only to split up the players into 'fair and balanced teams' by grade which is required for Burgess League participation.  There will be NO 'A' and 'B' teams. We are also unable to accomodate specific placement of players on certain teams to accomodate carpooling or friendships - sorry.  Finally, we cannot permit players to 'switch' teams once they are formed and finalized.   Remember, all players will be placed on a team - the LLL is an 'all participation' league!!  Final team rosters will be sent out by the coaches along with practice days and times prior to the Thanksgiving break.
• We will need coaches!  Please consider coaching a team. We are already short coaches for our large 7th grade population and 8th grade! Email Theresa Murphy, Basketball Athletic Director at tmurphy9752@juno.com.
• Coaches Meeting on November 17th, 2009. At this coaches-only meeting,  the league will meet with the coaches to review rules and select practice times for each team.  The practice times will be selected based on the coach's availability and a lottery system.  No one will know what times your child's team will practice until this meeting is concluded.  After the meeting, coaches will then be responsible to communicate to all team parents and players the practice times and team rosters.  Expect to hear from your coach before the Thanksgiving break.
• Team practices will begin after November 30, 2009.  There are usually two practices per week, all after school and one game per week. 
• Game schedules are formed by the Burgess League and usually this process takes until January 1, 2009. However, some teams may play games in December in order to conclude the season by March 7, 2010. You will be notified of your team game schedules as soon as we know.  For planning purposes, please consult the table below for anticipated days of games by grade. 
• The season will conclude by March 7, 2010 excluding playoff games for 5th to 8th grades which may take games into mid March.  There are no playoff games for 3rd or 4th graders.
• For 2009, the LLL purchased new black shorts to go along with the jerseys usually supplied.  You will not have to buy new shorts to play. However, proper basketball shoes are highly recommended (no black soles).

We enter our 3rd to 7th grade teams in a recreational league run by the City of Menlo Park Recreation Department, known as the “Burgess League.” Games are played from December through March in either Burgess Gym, La Entrada Gym or the Onetta Harris Recreation Center.

We enter our 8th grade teams in a recreational league run by the Mid-Peninsula Middle School League (MPMSL). This league was formed by the middle school Athletic Directors to help reduce the load on the Burgess League, which is stretched for playing time/space by the enormous number of teams that want to participate. The MPMSL operates under the same philosophies as the Burgess League.

Games will be on ONE of the following days (but not both):

COACHES: Susan Knox, Karen Wickers, and Rob Mathews will coach with help from other qualified parents.

SKILL LEVEL REQUIREMENTS: Players must be able to control a practice rally from full court, serve consistently, and understand how to play a set of tennis. Up to 20 players will be selected from the 6^th, 7^th, and 8^th grade applicants for a league “varsity” team based on their skill level. Based on court and coach availability, we will also accept additional players for a “junior varsity” team. All players will practice regularly and play some matches during the season.

PRACTICE: The team will practice approximately 2 afternoons a week La Entrada (other courts may be used if we can secure them). Days and times are TBD.

MATCHES: Matches are traditionally played on Wednesdays and Fridays from 3:30 until around 5:30, starting mid-March and ending mid-May. The team will play home (hopefully Woodside High School) and away matches against Castilleja, Corte Madera, Crystal Springs, St. Joseph’s, Menlo School, Woodside Elementary, and Woodside Priory. Functional tennis clothing and shoes are mandatory. Kids should also have hats, sunscreen and water when attending matches. Parents are responsible for their own carpooling.

The NEW La Entrada Wrestling Program is open to all students in the 4th to 8th grades. In January, 2009 the LLL purchased  new wrestling mat and will purchase wrestling uniforms for each person who signs up, so it should be a terrific sporting program!

The season begins March 4th and will end in mid May.  Practices will be TUESDAYS and THURSDAYS from 3:00 to 4:30PM in Jensen Hall at La Entrada.  Matches will be held on Wednesdays, starting in early April.

Please note:  The FIRST week's practices will be on WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY, MARCH 4TH AND 5TH FROM 11:45 TO 1:15 IN JENSEN HALL.

The Wrestling program will be run by Joe Patane who has over 20 years of coaching experience. Joe is currently an assistant coach for the Menlo-Atherton High School wrestling program.

Cost: $110 for the season including your uniform (which is the child's to keep after the season).

Parents are responsible to drive their children to matches.
