For the first time in Poland, on October 2, 2006, Mazowsze Little League honored their Hometown Heroes. The League invited representatives of Firefighters and Police from Wioska, Czernikowo and Torun to their school field in Mazowsze.
Little Leaguers honored their guests through a demonstration on how to play baseball that also involved them (guests) on the field. After one hour of baseball fun, players and coaches presented certificates to each Firefighter and Police Unit and T-shirts to all participants. In return, Firefighters and Policemen presented their skills, equipment and explained to young baseball players what their jobs are about.
This event was an excellent example of integrating local community through baseball. Little League's mission is to educate through sports and to make participation, through programs like Honoring Our Hometown Heroes, a great experience for children.

Special thanks to Robert Szwajkowski, Poland District 1 Administrator, who organized the event. We encourage other Leagues in the EMEA Region to follow this example in their local communities.
