Lincroft Little League - Where Dreams Begin

dreams

Welcome to the official web site of the Lincroft Little League - Where Dreams Begin.

Dear Players and Families of Lincroft Little League,

On behalf of the Board of Directors I would like to welcome you to another great season of baseball and softball.

Lincroft Little League is much more than bats, balls, fields, dugouts, or any of the many other many physical items that go into baseball and softball.

Over the years Lincroft Little League has become a leadership program for both children and adults, with the aim of helping children to become good and decent citizens. Through the application of Little League Rules, Regulations, and Policies, developed over decades of experience, Lincroft Little League continually strives to be an organization that exemplifies the qualities of fair and honest play for all of the children in The League, in every division, and at every level of a child’s development.

The primary focus of Lincroft Little League is that our children learn the positive values of good sportsmanship, fair play, and teamwork…values they will take with them, and can use throughout their lives. The board, managers, and coaches, all of whom volunteer a good deal of their time and efforts, convey their leadership qualities to our children today so they will grow to be tomorrow’s leaders.

Every representative of The League, knows, and understands that any decision they make must be made with both of these questions answered positively:

1.        Is it in the best interest of the children of the community?

2.        Will it bring credit to the Little League Program, and to the community as a whole?

The Board of Directors, managers, and coaches of Lincroft Little League consider it an honor, and a privilege that you entrust your children to us to fulfill all of the responsibilities I outlined above. In doing so we make every effort to consistently serve the best interests of your children so that their Little League experience is one of the best of their childhoods, and one they will look back on throughout their lives with the fondest of memories.

In addition, Lincroft Little League would not be the fine organization it has come to be without the hard work and dedication of its board, and the managers and coaches of The League. So when you have an opportunity today, or during the season, just take a moment to say thanks to them. That small gesture will mean so much, and it will be sure to put a smile on their faces.

Lastly, it is a privilege to serve the children and families of Lincroft Little League as its President. I look to serve The League with the same level of dedication and leadership of recent, and past President’s such as Jeff Iapicco, Tony Musella, and Bill Grier who were instrumental in making this League what it is today…a great place for our children to learn, grow, and have a terrific time playing baseball and softball.

Thank you for allowing me to serve as President. If at any time you have any questions, or concerns, please do not hesitate to send me an e-mail.

Have a wonderful season.

Sincerely,

Dan Petrocelli

Who We Are and What We Stand For

From the Lincroft Little League By-Laws:
Article Two - Purpose and Objective

"The purpose and objective of the League shall be to implant firmly in the children of the community the ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, courage and respect for authority, so that they will be well adjusted, stronger and happier children who will grow to be good, decent, healthy and trustworthy adults; and to thereby promote the health, social, educational and character development of our youth. All persons involved in this league, however, shall bear in mind that ATTAINMENT OF EXCEPTIONAL ATHLETIC SKILL AND THE WINNING OF GAMES IS SECONDARY(emphasis added), and the molding of future men and women is of prime importance."

We define ourselves, therefore, as a RECREATIONAL league wherein the level of competition is determined by the children, and not the adults. In a society where youth sports are increasingly plagued by exploitation, boorish behavior and even violence on the part of adults, and where 75% of children walk away from organized sports by the age of 13, we see our market as the children, and our mission as serving their needs. Within that context, no enterprise which loses 75% of its client base can be judged as successful.
N.B. Recent articles in the Wall Street Journal and other publications have put the rate of attrition from organized youth baseball at 10% in the last 3 years and near 30% in the last 10.

For more information on the League, please click "About Us" on the left hand side of this page.

Mom & Dad, are you listening to me?- THE KIDS SPEAK

Colored_baseball.gif
Several recent studies have shown that between 70 and 75% of kids drop out of organized sports by age 13. Organized by whom?--ADULTS.
Jim Sundberg, a former major league player, and his wife, Janet, a psychologist, wrote a book called "Sports Parenting" in which they included the following survey of what boys and girls like MOST and LEAST about playing sports. Here goes:
             BOYS
MOST                   LEAST
1.Relationships       1.Losing
2.Having fun          2.Parental pressure
3.Competition          3.Degrading comments
4.Developing character    about performance

             GIRLS
MOST                   LEAST
1.Relationships       1.Losing
2.Developing character 2.Time Commitment
3.Competition          3.Parental pressure
4.Having fun

Enough said?

Points to Ponder for the Off Season

"Sports do not build character....They reveal it."

- - www.sportsparenting.org - - What a Concept !!!!!!

At a time when youth sports has become "big business", and the general anxiety level regarding kids' athletic development and performance rises seemingly day by day, we are disturbed to note the paradox of parents leaving it to the "experts" when the stark reality is that serious issues of their own children's physical and emotional well being are at stake.
The truth is that ultimate responsibility for a child's welfare lies with the parents and that only through involvement and education can parents protect their children from becoming "casualties" of organized sports.
Resources are available. The web site listed above is a terrific source of information on a wide range of youth sports issues. Just click on it for instant access.
Click on the "Parent's Page" at left as well for a list of resources available to those people who believe their children deserve the best that youth sports has to offer.
    Remember, -No involvement, No change.
