Lincroft Little League: Welcome

Monday, November 19
Registration for 2012 Season is now OPEN - YOU MUST USE LINK BELOW TO REGISTER

Don't wait to register! Registration will close on February 29th!

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY, AS THERE ARE A NUMBER OF CHANGES THIS SEASON - PLEASE ALSO REFER TO REGISTRATION PAGE FOR MORE IMPORTANT INFORMATION

 Coaches/Managers

Parents considering a coach or manager position MUST register as such after you register your children – please follow the directions in the system.

     *  This year, all information required for coaching and background checks will be collected on-line.  This is a timelier and more secure method than how the data was collected in the past.  Please note: if you do not register as a coach/manager and complete the registration process in its entirety, you will not be considered for a position.  Managers will be chosen in early January.

     *  We will be assigning managers and coaches at the Tee-ball and Clinic divisions only.  In order to allow for the “drafting up” of players (9’s to Pioneer and 10’s to Little League) only managers will be chosen for the Junior, Pioneer and Little League divisions.  Coaches will be determined after the draft. There will be more to follow on this shortly.

Volunteers

Lincroft Little League can only be successful with the cooperation and involvement of the families in the league.  Last year we were able to accomplish many projects (including dugout and field renovations) with the help of a small group of volunteer parents.  This season, all parents are required to provide volunteer service (ONLY a few hours) to the league in order to have your child participate. Please Read Volunteer Bond Handout (See Below) for details. Please note the following:

     *  For 2012 we will reinstitute the collection of a volunteer bond (per family).  The bond will be $250.00 payable by check.  YOUR CHECK WILL BE RETURNED UNCASHED ONCE YOUR VOLUNTEER SERVICE IS COMPLETE.  If you wish, you may “buy-out” of your volunteer service during the registration process for $250.00.  We would much rather have you volunteer than collect your money!

     *  Our primary volunteer needs for this year (in addition to the usual positions) are new board members and help with field maintenance during the season.

   *  Snack Bar:  As many of you already know the league has taken over operation of the snack bar, which will be an enormous source of revenue for the league.  All families will be asked to help out in the snack bar during the season.  We are still working out the details but given the number of families in the league, if each family works for 1 shift, we should be covered – more details will follow.  This will be in addition to your other volunteer service.

2011 was a very successful year for the league, capped off by our 11 year old girls winning the State Championship at home in Lincroft.  We have very big plans for the league and our facilities, including a complete renovation of field 2 and replacing the lights on field 3 – both projects’ costs will be significantly reduced by volunteer efforts plus donations from sponsors.

We need help to achieve the goal of making Lincroft the place to be for Little League Baseball and Softball, and with your help we can make this happen.

Who We Are and What We Stand For

From the Lincroft Little League By-Laws:
Article Two - Purpose and Objective

"The purpose and objective of the League shall be to implant firmly in the children of the community the ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, courage and respect for authority, so that they will be well adjusted, stronger and happier children who will grow to be good, decent, healthy and trustworthy adults; and to thereby promote the health, social, educational and character development of our youth. All persons involved in this league, however, shall bear in mind that ATTAINMENT OF EXCEPTIONAL ATHLETIC SKILL AND THE WINNING OF GAMES IS SECONDARY(emphasis added), and the molding of future men and women is of prime importance."

We define ourselves, therefore, as a RECREATIONAL league wherein the level of competition is determined by the children, and not the adults. In a society where youth sports are increasingly plagued by exploitation, boorish behavior and even violence on the part of adults, and where 75% of children walk away from organized sports by the age of 13, we see our market as the children, and our mission as serving their needs. Within that context, no enterprise which loses 75% of its client base can be judged as successful.
N.B. Recent articles in the Wall Street Journal and other publications have put the rate of attrition from organized youth baseball at 10% in the last 3 years and near 30% in the last 10.

Mom & Dad, are you listening to me?- THE KIDS SPEAK

image_name2
Several recent studies have shown that between 70 and 75% of kids drop out of organized sports by age 13. Organized by whom?--ADULTS.
Jim Sundberg, a former major league player, and his wife, Janet, a psychologist, wrote a book called "Sports Parenting" in which they included the following survey of what boys and girls like MOST and LEAST about playing sports. Here goes:
             BOYS
MOST                   LEAST
1.Relationships       1.Losing
2.Having fun          2.Parental pressure
3.Competition          3.Degrading comments
4.Developing character    about performance

             GIRLS
MOST                   LEAST
1.Relationships       1.Losing
2.Developing character 2.Time Commitment
3.Competition          3.Parental pressure
4.Having fun

Enough said?

- - www.sportsparenting.org - - What a Concept !!!!!!

At a time when youth sports has become "big business", and the general anxiety level regarding kids' athletic development and performance rises seemingly day by day, we are disturbed to note the paradox of parents leaving it to the "experts" when the stark reality is that serious issues of their own children's physical and emotional well being are at stake.
The truth is that ultimate responsibility for a child's welfare lies with the parents and that only through involvement and education can parents protect their children from becoming "casualties" of organized sports.
Resources are available. The web site listed above is a terrific source of information on a wide range of youth sports issues. Just click on it for instant access.
Click on the "Parent's Page" at left as well for a list of resources available to those people who believe their children deserve the best that youth sports has to offer.
    Remember, -No involvement, No change.
