2011 West Niagara Invitational Girls Soccer Tournament

I want to express extreme disappointment at the handling of the "weather conditions" at this tournament. The final games were cancelled due to "weather and/or field conditions". Firstly, there was no formal communication on this (other than word of mouth from other teams in other divisions). Secondly, the reason for the cancellation of the games was not according to OSA FIFA laws of the game which the tournament is governed by or any other listed rules. Thirdly, there were no extreme weather conditions. In fact, the weather conditions leading up to the final games were better than those during the semi and quarter final games which did take place. In fact, the conditions of the BL1 and BL2 fields (final game fields) were better than the conditions on the BHE, BHW, F1 and F2 fields where the quarter and semi final games did successfully take place. Fourthly, the only believable reason given for the cancellation of the final games was that the referees were too cold and wet to work in the rain (after initial poor excuses for weather conditions, safety and field playability were found untrue). The majority of the day consisted of light rain and drizzle, no thunder, no lightning, no safety concerns, specifically when the fields designated for the final games had good drainage and were in better condition than those for the quarter and semi final games that did take place. There were no puddles on the final game fields! LASTLY, after decision to cancel the finals and award trophies based on standings, there was not only poor communication on this, but additionally poor management and handling of the trophy distribution - the wrong trophies were handed out to teams. In fact, when one team indicated they were in the regional grouping but handed provincial grouping trophies, they were told its ok don't worry about it - without any consideration given to the fact that the provincial team would want their provincial trophy and not the regional team's trophy.   This is completely unacceptable. Not only were the decisions taken not in accordance with OSA and FIFA laws of the game, but unacceptable that an organization and tournament with such longstanding experience would not have the appropriate trained people and back-up plans in place to adequately handle such a common place occurrence. I strongly believe that this situation was mishandled and that this organization should formally apologize for their handling of the given "typical spring weather conditions" and commit to producing better organization and back-up plans for future tournaments.
