Lihue Patriots: Welcome

Welcome Patriots

Aloha I am the Board President, Lilane Corpuz, of Lihue Pop Warner Association and on behalf of Lihue Pop Warner I would like to personally thank you for continuing to support this organization throughout the many years in service.  Pop Warner Little Scholars was founded in 1929 and Lihue Pop Warner Association in 1962.  LPWA has 48 years of experience in offering a safe and structured football and cheer program.  I wanted to update you on some of the happenings of LPWA as we look forward to our upcoming season.

Safety on the field is a major concern.  LPWA will be purchasing new helmets as an updated safety program that was initiated last year where we received $17,000 towards the purchase of new gear for our children in the 2010 season.  All Football Head coaches are trained and certified through USA football, and All Cheer Coaches are trained and certified through Jams, in addition to being CPR certified and mandated to be drug tested which was a policy we implemented voluntarily to make sure our players and participants are in the safest hands.  LPWA holds the highest standards possible when it comes to our youth and not only encourages scholastics we require our participants to maintain at the least a 2.0 average however most of our student athletes are achieving 3.0 and more.

Futthermore, LPWA is working with Chad Owens to provide a camp here on Kauai, May 8th, 2010 at Kapaa New Town Park.  Pre-registration signups will be at Kuku`i Grove on Friday April 30, 2010, from 6:00p.m. - 9:00p.m. and on Saturday May 1, 2010 from 11:00AM - 2:00p.m. The cost is $100, $80 for 2 of more registrations, and we will provide a lunch and dinner as well as Oahu National Guard will be participating in the event.   Exposure to new updated skills by professional athletes are very important to keeping our coaches and participants current with what colleges are looking for in athletes. LPWA is committed to bring any and every advantage to our youth that we possibly can.

During the season our coach’s average, at minimum, 120 volunteer hours in addition to their own jobs.  Being a coach can be very difficult with many different responsibilities however with business managers, team mom, and assistant coaches volunteering their own hours we have created a much more efficient process for coaching and the business matters that come along with this program.  Our board members control the ongoing operational aspect of the organization creating checks and balances throughout the organization.

Active support from parents can develop a stronger sense of community and structure for our children.  Being a part of a team is a very important role in child development and life skills that they will use for years to come.  Parents encouraging support for the LPWA program will ensure its existence for their children and grandchildren and so on.

Throughout the years our Board members have managed to make the games look easy, providing food booths (with the help of all of you), game set up, emergency medical teams in place, announcers, referees, uniforms and county venue reservations.  A lot of work goes into making our games a huge success and Pop Warner is the largest, established, most efficient, football and cheer organization on the island of Kauai with divisions in Kapaa, Koloa, Hanapepe, Kekaha and Lihue not to exclude our outer island family extending across the island chain and into the mainland.  LPWA is in every neighborhood throughout the Garden Isle and has been supporting your communities for years, this year we ask for your support.  With the current economic outlook we feel more than ever we need to come together and support our youth whether by coming to the games, volunteering your time at fundraising events, making monetary donations or just signing up your child to participate.

In closing, each player, cheerleader, parent, grand-parent, aunty or uncle, coach, assistant coach, football coordinator, cheer coordinator, business manager, team mom, board member, volunteer, donor, county official, or whatever you may be to the organization, thank you for your continued support for Lihue Pop Warner Association and Kauai Pop Warner as a whole.  It has been my pleasure volunteering for this organization and I am very proud of our achievements.
